Purdue v. Iowa Game Thread

Damn, Iowa isn't necessarily better.........PU just can't get anything going, FT's at the top of the list, followed by TOs

We needed our A game (or least B+). We got a B in the first half, and didn't hand in the assignment in the 2nd half-incomplete.

Door was left open but PU can't hit a thing............seriously, could've had this to single digits with plenty of time left.........no dice

Iowa good club......gotta give them credit, but............PU have beat themselves against this team

8 point lead by Iowa..........and how many FTs did PU leave out there

I'll say it again......Iowa good, PU just beat themselves....oh well

Maybe Kendall's points may have helped....who knows

Iowa worked harder in the 2nd half, hustled more, hit FT's and played good "D". We have more talent, IMO. This is a terrible loss. Another good half pissed away.

The only guy who has shot decently is PJ and he's not supposed to be one of the good shooters! All these others teams shoot fine. Is there a problem with the way shooting is approached in practice? Maybe feeling too much pressure to make?

You weren't thinking of doing the bus thing today, I hope ?:)

Just kidding. Then again, maybe a good ole long bus ride would do wonders.

Yeah I agree. I'm hoping (praying) we peak at the end. We have the type of team if we go on a roll we could knock off anyone. But I know it can go south also. I still believe.

Oh for sure, the season's not over, but it will be tough to get back in the conference race having dropped three games behind and done playing Iowa. Right now, they are a better team and playing better. Purdue could still do something, but they've got more issues to fix. There were some self-inflicted wounds out there today, but Iowa forced a lot of the issues too......and out-executed Purdue as well.

17 TO's and giving up 50% FG (with 11-20 from 3) just won't get it done.

I would like to see a solid effort on the road for 40 minutes against a top conference team.

PJT came to play today....that was nice to see.

No bus today.

Iowa won both halves that counted in each game........credit them for that, but that's all

This. It's ridiculous all these great shooters seem to forget how to make a shot when painter gets a hold of them. I have no explanation. It doesn't help that we have one of our worse shooters starting at the 2 position.

I called earlier that we have to defend and limit turnovers and looks like neither happened. That has been our issue in all of our losses. Cut the turnovers in half and we probably win.

Boilers took 10 more shots but were a ghastly 27/64. Boilers had 8 more rebounds to go along with 5 more turnovers and 4 more fouls.
Bottom line would seem to be when you shoot 42% overall, 44% from inside the arc, 39% from 3, and 55% from the FT line what result would you expect?

Painter doesn't coach shooting in practice, or otherwise -- I've asked him this on his call-in radio show. Keady was the same way. Players are responsible for working on their shot, on their own, and if they're in a slump, it's up to them to work through it on their own time. Not that Painter coaching shooting would help -- he was a terrible streak shooter himself.

After 6 months under Painter, Cline -- who some called the best shooter in Indiana HS basketball since Mount -- looks like he never shot a ball in his life before.

Hit some FTs down the stretch, punch Woodbury in the face, and it may have gotten scary close at the end..........

I am tied of reading that we "lost" that game. Some of you got it right - Iowa "won" that game. They match up to us very well and they then they shoot 11/22 3-pts in this game. We played good defense, but they can shoot over it. Better team won today. Maybe we get a third chance in the F4.
