It can be.....slower pace or for families, and if you like being near the water. Not too long a drive from Houston.

I would say the beaches are much better further south.

I lived in Houston for 6 years. I enjoyed Galveston to visit a lot bc it was a 30 minute drive. I would NOT recommend a long distance vacation there. The beach is not nice and the water is not clear. There are fun family things to do, but it can get pricey (deep sea fishing is cheap and great). Go to South Padre if you want beaches that can compete with the best in Florida.

actually I would just like to visit the northern edge of TX just to say I been there and even maybe Amarillo by morning.

Pensacola Beach is great...Navarre is a hidden untouched treasure. Destin is the commercialized anything you want to do destination
