Dan Mullen

Anyone have thoughts on Dan Mullen?

Pros:
Has won at an “underdog” school in the SEC
Still only 52 years old
Florida has gotten worse since firing him
Currently working in TV so can start immediately (can you be here Monday morning?)

Cons:
Got fired from last job
Good but not a great recruiter (but will that matter as much moving forward?)
Won’t have a staff to bring with him since he’s working in TV, will have to assemble one
I suggested this in an earlier thread and he was not well received. Looks like he is getting a better response now. I believe he would be a good candidate. He may be comfortable doing his current gig and may not want to coach anymore. I would bet he has had opportunities to do so and probably said no.

Not a good start for Edey

A few were he was out of position…he will need to adjust that way. The first foul, he was lucky defensive 3 seconds wasn’t called (or maybe unlucky) and he sagged too far over to his man. The ball handler came off a ball screen (tbh it was horrible defense by Ja and smart) and was practically untouched by the two Memphis defenders and drove to the lane. Edey slid over, but was a tad late, the ball handler passed to a cutting Kessler and edey tried to recover but fouled Kessler on the way up.

It will take some time adjusting , but we’ve all seen how he learns and adjusts.

And let’s also note how rough ALL of the rookies debuts were.

TSJ- DNP
Dillingham - DNP
Ware - 6 mins, 0-1, 1 Reb and 1 foul
Knecht - 16 mins, 2-4, 5 pts, 2 asts, 1 Reb, 1 stl and 1 foul
Sheppard - 16 min, 2-5, 4 pts, 3 TOs, 3 fouls
Clingan - 13 min, 1-2 for 2 pts, 1 foul, 2 reb, 1 still, 1 block and a foul
Castle - 18 min, 3-7, 5 asts, 3 Reb, 2 TO, 3 fouls
Sarr - 22 min, 1-7 with 2 pts, 5 Reb, 1 ast, 2 fouls

And none started like Zach. It will take time for ALL rookies to adjust.
Game 2 tonight - he will be better

What are the effective charities you support? How about charities you think are scams?

I’m personally a big believer in BLM and the Lincoln Project.
BLM is my personal favorite also. Very well run, ethical organization.

BLM and the Georgia voting Jim Crow 2.0 scam show the willingness of Poorly ran corporate offices to both believe and propagate racial BS.

Both of those blew up in their face.

And all the talking heads that trained the leftist sheep to call the Georgia voting law changes....Jim Crow 2.0, were so wrong because they were lying & they knew it.

But lying to their audience is nothing new to left media. They know their audience are gullible willing dupes who are readily made sheep.

The leftist here on this board, bought into the lies, like good little sheep. Nothing new though they buy into every leftist lie that comes along. Do they ever realize what dupes they have become??

David Blough for OC. Smart, personable, played for innovative offensive coaches in college and the NFL, and now coaches for one in DC. Perfect choice.
No. I want all coordinators to have had prior experience calling plays. We are in a pickle right now because we don’t have experienced coaches.

Bring him in as a position coach or analyst
? Sure.

I'm gonna agree with bone here... if Purdue had say 10m just for basketball NIL out of the BA. You don't think Pianter would use that to get elite recruits?

He would still do the normal vetting, and can still tell if someone is just after money. But you don't think he would have gone after Cooper Flagg if he knew he had say 2m ready for him?
Flagg prob got way higher than that haha.

But yeah sure he’d prob go after him but not sure he woulda got him

Sure and if the player doesn’t? What if they don’t make the tournament at all?
That's the risk. No professional athlete, which is what these guys are now that they're getting paid, is going to sign a contract with their money being contingent on achieving some level of success. Sure, there could be incentives for achievement, but everyone wants that guaranteed $, regardless of outcome.

Sumlin is a co-offensive coordinator for Maryland.
And I would 100% expect Maryland would allow him to interview for Purdue HC job early. I would also have expected sumljn would make that a condition of his hiring (permission to interview for HC job). Regardless there are enough feelers out there purdue could hire him immediately after their final game

I hope we have wheels secretly in motion but a lot of this falls on the BOT and AD.

They hired a coach with 0 HC experience and he hired a staff without play calling experience. They should have forced him to bring in more experienced assistants and even an associate head coach who could be his mentor for years 1&2 at a minimum. The fact we didn't, is crazy.

Anyways, at least we won't lose this weekend....

Never say never (or ever). This new free agency market is constantly evolving and players are for sale to the highest bidder. I don't think Painter likes it, but I think he knows he has to embrace and utilize it.
Painter has said the new landscape in basketball has helped him eliminate players I knows won’t work in his system. I highly doubt we pay out $1mil to a recruit.

I know nothing at all about his financial situation, his level of interest in coaching again, or how attractive he would see the Purdue job.

But... if he could be convinced to take the call, Purdue definitely offers a less cut-throat environment than Florida---and I suspect more realistic expectations than Mississippi State.
I also think a coach like Bronco Mendenhall might be a good option, has a nice career record at BYU and UVA and is currently at New Mexico, a place where Purdue is a couple of steps higher
