Anyone have thoughts on Dan Mullen?

Pros:
Has won at an “underdog” school in the SEC
Still only 52 years old
Florida has gotten worse since firing him
Currently working in TV so can start immediately (can you be here Monday morning?)

Cons:
Got fired from last job
Good but not a great recruiter (but will that matter as much moving forward?)
Won’t have a staff to bring with him since he’s working in TV, will have to assemble one

Would he come to Purdue? He has some Midwestern ties (stops at ND and Bowling Green from '99-'02), but he's been an SEC guy since 2008.

He may just be looking to chill for a while longer. He still has 3 years left getting a million per from his Florida contract. I'd probably just keep my cush TV gig and collect my last 3 million free dollars from UF.

How much do you think Mullen would command per year ?
$6-7mil I think. He was like 7.5 at Florida when canned.

I think it’s a good fit. At the end of the day it’s about if he wants to get back to the grind of it all. With the NIL landscape and him not doing well there in its early days at Florida he may not have an appetite for hopping back in to the muddy pond.

If he’s interested in coaching again though he could do a lot worse than us.

I know the rankings say differently but he’s really not a great recruiter. He can get guys but often times they are not scheme or culture fits. I say that like our current coach is acing that currently. LOL

I know nothing at all about his financial situation, his level of interest in coaching again, or how attractive he would see the Purdue job.

But... if he could be convinced to take the call, Purdue definitely offers a less cut-throat environment than Florida---and I suspect more realistic expectations than Mississippi State.

I also think a coach like Bronco Mendenhall might be a good option, has a nice career record at BYU and UVA and is currently at New Mexico, a place where Purdue is a couple of steps higher

I suggested this in an earlier thread and he was not well received. Looks like he is getting a better response now. I believe he would be a good candidate. He may be comfortable doing his current gig and may not want to coach anymore. I would bet he has had opportunities to do so and probably said no.
