Ugly performance really. Fouled out in just 15 minutes. 5 pts, 5 rebounds. Missed 4 of 5 free throws. Was completely outplayed by Walker Kessler.
I would imagine Summer League and Preseason is not that far odd from high level Division 1.Ugly performance really. Fouled out in just 15 minutes. 5 pts, 5 rebounds. Missed 4 of 5 free throws. Was completely outplayed by Walker Kessler.
Yea and he did fine last game, so same can be said.Welcome to the NBA…
Exactly! I have to watch a couple of games before I comment.Couple of the calls were phantom but he will adjust in time!
Just win baby! Zach will be fine.Ugly performance really. Fouled out in just 15 minutes. 5 pts, 5 rebounds. Missed 4 of 5 free throws. Was completely outplayed by Walker Kessler.
One was a double foul where he tangled an arm with the other guy. Like he did lots of times in college. What were his called fouls? Shot blocking? Switch onto guards? Body? Positioning? Offensive?
I watched him do a nice job on a guard coming at him 1 on 1, he altered the shot that the guard thought was uncontested when he launched. Got beat back door at least once. What were his called fouls? Shot blocking? Switch onto guards? Body? Positioning? Offensive?
A few were he was out of position…he will need to adjust that way. The first foul, he was lucky defensive 3 seconds wasn’t called (or maybe unlucky) and he sagged too far over to his man. The ball handler came off a ball screen (tbh it was horrible defense by Ja and smart) and was practically untouched by the two Memphis defenders and drove to the lane. Edey slid over, but was a tad late, the ball handler passed to a cutting Kessler and edey tried to recover but fouled Kessler on the way up.What were his called fouls? Shot blocking? From my perspective, ‘tangled an arm’ makes it sound mutual. The other guy completely pinned Zach’s arm and they called the foul because it had been getting a little chippy between the two and Zach is a rookieOne was a double foul where he tangled an arm with the other guy. Yeah he will just have to figure out spacing in the defensive end. May take a bit but he’s shown he can learn quick and wants to learn, so I would assume he will be better either later on this year or it may take a whole season.Watched the whole game. Overall, he wasn't awful. He still has a lot to figure out and his teammates have a lot to figure out playing with him. I am probably the only IU fan that is an Edey fan. He'll also get some help when Jaren Jackson returns.
Game 2 tonight - he will be betterA few were he was out of position…he will need to adjust that way. It will take some time adjusting , but we’ve all seen how he learns and adjusts.
And let’s also note how rough ALL of the rookies debuts were.
TSJ- DNP
Dillingham - DNP
Ware - 6 mins, 0-1, 1 Reb and 1 foul
Knecht - 16 mins, 2-4, 5 pts, 2 asts, 1 Reb, 1 stl and 1 foul
Sheppard - 16 min, 2-5, 4 pts, 3 TOs, 3 fouls
Clingan - 13 min, 1-2 for 2 pts, 1 foul, 2 reb, 1 still, 1 block and a foul
Castle - 18 min, 3-7, 5 asts, 3 Reb, 2 TO, 3 fouls
Sarr - 22 min, 1-7 with 2 pts, 5 Reb, 1 ast, 2 fouls
And none started like Zach. It will take time for ALL rookies to adjust.
Looks like Houston's center went for 25 and 18 in the opener, including 2/3 from deep. Should be interesting.Game 2 tonight - he will be better
He’s just trying to get every single record in the books.Zach made history!

Zach Edey Makes Unfortunate History in NBA Debut
Memphis Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey played his first NBA regular season game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, October 23. Edey finished the night with 5 pointflip.it
Was a lot better already. Crazy how he learns quick. They still don’t give him the ball as much…I know it’s not his role but if the big man is open, feed him!Edey had 13 points and 9 rebounds last night.
I'm old enough to remember Walker's uncle, Alec, completely outplaying Shaq in a Georgia-LSU game way back in the day. Even then (and even though I had gone to high school with Alec), I knew it would be the last time that would ever happen. Hopefully history will repeat itself and Zach's talent and work ethic will get him over the mountain.Ugly performance really. Fouled out in just 15 minutes. 5 pts, 5 rebounds. Missed 4 of 5 free throws. Was completely outplayed by Walker Kessler.
