But in Trumps case, all the smoke is blown by democrats hellbent on trying to prosecute him for things that never happened (such as the Russia collusion hoax). So no, where there's smoke, there's not always fire, dems are hoping they can create some though.
They are a seemingly nice, quiet Asian family. Who knows what the feds were there for, drugs, cyber security, sex trafficking etc. It was quite the scene for sure. Only seen stuff like that in the movies. Nobody was arrested. The family to this day are going about their lives like nothing happened. Whatever the feds found must not have been enough to bring into custody.
The point is that I guarantee you, they did not tip toe around the wife’s belongings.

I'm more than happy to see what comes of it. Something tells me Trump has outsmarted his democrat witch hunters again though. The guy, while sometimes difficult to like, is smart, calculated and probably takes all things into consideration with contingency plans.

I think what this will boil down to is that he has some docs that weren't turned over as quickly as they would have liked, perhaps some that were declassified, and that's what the debate will turn into. What was classified/declassified.
There's no nuke codes or military secrets. Trump is too smart for that.
He's smart in some ways, ultra dumb in others. We can agree to disagree here of course.
If he kept the docs, it was on purpose and because he thought he could do whatever he wanted. That doesn't make him stupid or smart; it makes him an idiot and a potential national security risk.
If he kept any documents (again, do you really think he kept anything super secret, that he'd get himself in a lot of trouble for?), I'm sure his army of lawyers thoroughly vetted the legal process for him doing so. It's not like he just went to the file cabinet in the Oval office and said "Hmmm....this is interesting, I think I'll keep this. And this one....and this one..."
That's what made Trump such a great POTUS: he's a businessman. He analyzes the options, calculates the outcomes, determines best case scenarios, looks at the P&L of his decisions. etc.
I think this turns out to again be a big nothing burger. But....the dems will keep trying.
Lawyers like who, Giuliani? Let's face it, he didn't surround himself by the 'best people'. If his 'army of lawyers thoroughly vetted the legal process', then one could surmise last Monday wouldn't have happened, no? Like I said, I'll withhold further speculation until we find out what they found, but the nothing burger comments are hollow when none of us knows what was found yet.

Depends upon which set of lawyers Chump listened to. If it is the White House lawyers, maybe he did things on the up and up. However, if he listened to ne'er do wells like Guiliani and others, then it is highly possible that top secret documents may have been taken to the Florida home.
As far as a businessman. Looks like you were conned like a lot of folks. He was a horrible businessman. His casinos went to crap. Files for bankruptcy 5 or 6 times. No US banks in their right minds were willing to loan him money. That is why he had to go to Russia to get loans. Trump University was crap. Nobody learned anything from that institution. That degree is not worth the paper it's printed on. Poor decisions took down the USFL. On and on and on.

You are so far enamored by Chump's so called business prowess that you clearly have not paid attention to how this man works. Chump runs his businesses, the presidency was no different, like an organized crime boss. There are White House lawyers whose job is to advise the president of what he can or cannot do legally among other things. Then there are lawyers that he deals with like Guiliani, the Dominion election machine chick, Cohen early on that pretty much act as what the organized crime folks call consiglieres. These are the slimy lawyers that advise the crime bosses, in this case, President Chump. This is why from day one of his presidency there was a lot of chaos in the White House. Also, one of the reasons why there was so much turnover in the administration. He required them to be loyal and pushed them to break the law. When they did not, to their credit they resigned. The bottom line is that Chump will do stuff over the edge or right at the edge. Perhaps the White House lawyers advised him that he cannot take these documents to his Florida home. However, most likely Chump proceeded to listen to his "consiglieres". As a result, he has his home raided by the feds.

BTW, if Trump is holding any documents the government wants that were created for him or by him as President, he has to give them back. If DeSantis wins in 2024 and wants Biden’s notes on conversations with senators on passing the Inflation thing or the Afghanistan exit, he will have to give them up too.

Trump is a great businessman because he knows what boundaries he can push and what he can't. He knows what risks are worth taking and what aren't. He knows how to work the legal and financial systems to his advantage as any smart businessman does (yes, including using bankruptcy and law to his advantage). And he's smart enough to hire a really good legal team to watch his back.

My contention was that using an OPINION piece to support your own opinions doesn't really do much.
If the question generally is whether or not there should be double standards, I've said many times already that the answer to that is no. However, these situations, while similar, are not the same. There were different laws in place then vs. now. There are different people in charge of this investigation vs. that one. There appears to be a different level of risk and intentionality between the two events. You and others in this thread will clearly never agree with me on some of those points and that's fine.
What it boils down to is that I was happy to let the investigation into Clinton go on because what she did was wrong, just like I'm happy to let the investigation into Trump go on because what he did was wrong.
This is the part that blows my mind: jump through your ass to condemn Hillary... while also jumping through your ass to defend Trump... when only one of them was actually caught with highly classified compartmentalized information on their private property through a lawful, warranted probable cause search and seizure (NOT A RAID, as DeSantis said when he did the same exact thing 24 hours later).
Condemn them both. Treat them the same. Hillary was not worthy of a vote; neither is Trump. Hillary is not worthy of public office; neither is Trump.
