Iowa v. Purdue Game Thread

Iowa wanted it more, period. Their seniors would not be denied a win at Mackey. Effort matters.
Stop with these bs cliches. Any team with competitors wants to win. Wanting it more has nothing to do with Painter's inability to coach a press break the past 4 years. He doesn't know how to coach offense and its as simple as that. Quit blaming it on stupid phrases that you hear from sorry coaches at press conferences.

Wow, that was a hard one to watch. And now I get to hear all about it at work Monday from the office Iowa fan.

I'm ready for Cuonzo Martin. He would keep all the top notch recruits here in Indiana. Don't say his California team sucks because they're young. When purdue Brings Cuonzo Martin back home not only will we go to the Final Four we will win one guaranteed

Well.....just got to dig down deep and find a way to fix the issues and play smarter with poise.

Move on; can't let this loss cost more games......but definitely a huge disappointment. Erasing the DVR right now.

Good to see Rick Mount back regardless.

Agree on all points. There's still plenty of time to right the ship. But this game, more so than the Butler game, exposed flaws that can be exploited by athletic, deep teams down the road.

What's up with RD? He hasn't been himself since the knee tweak. 1-7 from the field, 1-5 from 3, and 4 TO's. Ok, his defense is good, but we need a little more consistency on the offensive end

I just read this from page one thru page 6.... a great read.... An emotional rollercoaster....and this was a home game.

Wow...lots of time on your hands. IU should get off to a great start in the B1G...until they start playing the upper half in Feb. As long as they do well enough to keep Crean, I'm content. Thanks for stopping by.

Said it two weeks ago and got blown up for it....PJT isn't a threat to score from outside and can't make an interior pass....also got exposed tonight for his inability to handle the press...Johnny Hill is the best option.

Is it just me, or did anyone else feel this coming...even when we were up 14 (mid early 2nd half)? The team felt like it was trying to protect a lead and play really slow and work the shot clock with 14 minutes left in the game.

We really slowed the pace down and Iowa was speeding up the pace and rhythm. And PJT is not terrible but he is too small to pass over the top of the press and not quick enough to break through it...keeping him I'm for what seemed like forever was inexcusable. CMP slowed the game and tried to play keep away and didn't have the right personal in the game. Bad bad bad coaching...

Painter : press :: Crean : Syracuse 2-3 zone

I know what we'll be working on in practice. Let's see if it pays off against UM.

This is on Painter by letting PJ turn the ball over and call all of our TO's. Painter just can't adjust or doesn't know how to. Well it looks like Butler helped everyone figure our weakness..I mean VCU!

Never said PJT was terrible, just not ready for the BIG, they brought Hill in for a reason, I believe he is the best option right now....

Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin Cuonzo Martin that's right equals a final four I will repeat myself until he's our coach

You get the same type of coach with Cuonzo Martin differences is Cuonzo Martin is a way better recruiter
saw Miami outscored the Cuse 47-26 in the 2nd half tonight for a W. In regards to us, haven't seen a blown game since the Xavier game 4 or 5 yrs ago when we took the foot off the gas and lost. For breaking a press, bring the center towards the top of the key and run the guards off of him after he catches it.

What a silly thing to say. It's Painter's fault PJ turned it over? Give me a freaking break. It's the player's responsibility to take care of the ball on the floor. Period.

OK - this type of collapse can either put us into a 2-3 game tailspin or we could use it as motivation to lay the hammer down from this point forward. Here's hoping it's the latter.

Yeah but let's be real, we haven't been able to break the press effectively since lewjack. We have no good ideas when anyone presses us, we just lob the ball cross court to the other guard until we get over half court when we just pick it up for some reason. It's like this every year. These guys obviously aren't prepared to handle the press. That part is Painters fault.

The inability to break a press is on the talent level. Octeus was able to do so and frankly Edwards will as well.

We all knew going in this season that pg would be a weak spot. And it, among other things, cost us the game today.

So what we just concede that every team that presses us is going to absolutely have their way with our guards? It's hard for me to accept that. I feel like it'd be really easy for painter to draw up a scheme for these guys to run in practice that would be more effective that what they're doing now.
