Matt Painter had a 6-year stretch from 2007 - 2012

where Purdue lost in the 2nd round (or better).

Cuonzo Martin, 1995 NBA Draft pick, recruited most of these players.

There is no better 6-year stretch than this for Painter in the NCAA Tournament.

And Martin was done bringing these players in by 2007.

Bring Cuonzo back (or someone like him) that can recruit March Madness talent.

If not,
then Purdue should pursue a new coach.

Had Painter convinced Cuonzo to stay back in 2008, Purdue would

already have been to the FF by now (and maybe won it all).

Cuonzo proved he could recruit, but never really proved he could coach at his other 3 or so stops. What makes you think he could have here?

Cuonzo Martin has been the head coach at 4 schools 3 of those being larger schools. I highly doubt that he would want to be an assistant again. Now if painter were to leave which it seems like a lot of you want I think he should be a target to replace him.

I don't know anyone who would be excited about Martin as HC. Shrewsberry was high on the list and ND did what we were unwilling to do (push out an underachieving coach and upgrade).

You think recruiting in 2023 is anything like recruiting was in 2007?

That is a bit harsh. CMP recruited a team that certainly could have challenged had Hummel not had the ACL

The team with Issac was in a good position until the broken elbow.

And the team with Carsen was as close as a team can get.

Didn't CMP recruit all of those guys?

Can you at least try to think before you post? I wouldn't mind engaging in a discussion with you, but your posts are completely devoid of thought.
Your response makes you sound like a raging kid that mashes his keyboard after he lost a game.

Just to jog your memory:

You asked : “by what measure is shrews better than painter?”

I responded with: “shrews got further in the tournament than painter this year”

Aren’t I answering your question?

In your mind, I suppose you are. In your mind, a team bowing out in the 2nd round makes their coach a Purdue head coaching upgrade over Painter. Think about that, if you are able. lol

Cuonzo got Carl Landry and David Teague to Purdue.

Cuonzo got JaJuan Johnson to commit first to Purdue. The rest of the Baby Boilers followed because Cuonzo got Johnson first.

Painter coached them which why I said Painter's best 6-year stretch in March Madness is still from 2007 -2012 with mostly Cuonzo's recruiting.

And Purdue was Final Four bound before Hummel went down in 2010, yes.

This is why I want Cuonzo back working with Painter again.

The March Madness results don't lie.

Pretty sure Jack Owens recruited Carsen Edwards.

I know its just one recruit, but I bet 2023 Xavier Booker would be a Boiler

if Cuonzo Martin was on Purdue's staff. I want another JaJuan Johnson

type player or 2 on Purdue's team.

Would be nice to get Flory Bidunga in 2024.
Hard to argue with this extreme level of supposition. Martin was good, and could pull in kids. Don’t underestimate Painters own contribution to that baby boiler class. Besides, who knows how well Martin would navigate this NIL world.

Can’t forget about when Kelvin Sampson’s greasy hands all over Robbie Hummel pushed him away from IU to us.

Booker is not JaJuan Johnson. Anyone who thinks so has not seen Booker play. JJ was a high energy player.

He was never going to go to IU. Illinois was his second choice in fact.

Jeff Teague was supposedly interested in IU but his dad knew Sampson was blatantly cheating and advised him to go elsewhere.
