Other than maybe not getting Cline and DM a couple set plays for open looks I don't see how this loss can possibly be put on him. He coached an above average game that put us in position for countless layups and close range shots and missed them along with lots of missed FT's. We adjusted on defense and Michigan shot very poorly the second half. Wagner was a non factor and Wilson was contained compared to what he did in the first half.

You're right but it will still happen.

How about losing games you shouldn't. Happens every tourney we are in. It happens the same way Evey march. Its a game we should've won!! And we lost!!

Haas could score at will...hurt on D some, but we needed to go inside and he was on today...Painter pulled him and we lost our inside threat and with #14 and 31 checking out today we had nowhere to go except for bad shots.

You are exactly right. We shoot better and we blow them out and we had plenty of open looks that usually fall for us.

This is not on Painter and I know the hater crowd will disagree, but it's pretty obvious to anyone level headed that the 'fault' lies with the players not hitting shots and too many turnovers.

He should have set cline on the bench. He should have finished the game out with his big players in. He should have gotten the ball down low at the end. The game shouldn't even have been that close.

Shots around the rim by our forwards and post players are bad shots? Missed layups are bad shots? Haas couldn't hit his FT's and had PJ or Haas sunk 1 more FT we win the game.

Every team that loses a close game always thinks it's a game they should've won. Still happens. To most every team. To end most seasons.

Beilein gets a T and the refs changed the way they were calling the game. Did painter do anything.... No! There were numerous calls that went against us and he didn't say s thing!

You don't think he ever said anything to the refs about calls that went against us?

Were you there? No? Then you have no idea what Painter did or didn't do. How about PJ hit just one free throw at the end and we win. Or better, we hit any of the bunnies/open shots during regulation?

The technical did nothing. It was our poor shooting and turnovers that did us in. Period.

CMP wasn't shooting the free throws. I thought the game plan was very decent; the execution could have been better. The Boilers played well enough on "D" to win this game.....just let it slip through. Candidly, I love rooting for this team, and they're all great kids/students.....but they felt the pressure, IMO.....it could be a good thing going forward.....maybe.

JMHO.....have at me.

It comes down sometimes to one play, one possession.....that's where the turnovers can really kill you. A 4/5 in the West still doesn't seem like a bad draw. Disappointing, however, because one of the goals (BTT title) is obviously now gone.

Get your heads up, Boilers.....let's see something to celebrate next week.

We received the benefit early then it evened up and they got the calls late. Not much you can do to change the outcome with the refs when calls are made at the end. You live with them and try to overcome them. We were in position to do so but missed high percentage shots and freebies.

It's always on the coach, win or loss. Even if they put players position, if players can't execute, it is the coach who recruited them and coaches them up. If we lose in the 1st round again next week, and are unable to advance even to ROUND TWO for the 5th year in a row, it's 100% on CMP no matter how the players execute or do not.

Never know til you see the brackets (and even then, who picked UALR last year?) but I think Purdue snaps that streak this year. I sure hope they can put a run together and do something special with Biggie.

Yep, but I will take a B1G regular season title over a tourney title any day (and I'm sure you would too). How we view and for many enjoy this season will depend on what happens starting next week. Let's regroup and rip off 6 in a row!

So it's the players' fault because they can't make easy shots?

Michigan took DM away in both games (7 points in two games) I think he was the focus for there defense outside of Swanigan. They did not give DM any passing lanes and did not let him get the ball back after he got rid of it. Great coaching by UM realizing DM is the straw that stirs the drink and he took the straw out of the class today.

It's always on the coach, win or loss.
Didn't need to read any more than this to know the rest of your post was crap. It is up to the player and the player alone to execute on the court. Period.

Your comment makes me believe you have never played a team sport ever. I played baseball and when I missed an easy out or watched a strike come in and not swing, you know who's fault it was? Mine and mine alone. The coach teaches you and and gives you the tools to do what is needed on the field. Once you are out there it is up to you to perform and that is a fact.

This loss is on the players. End of story.

This game shouldn't have even been close we had the hot hand at the end and let painters poor coaching let the wind out of our sails. Its the same shit with every loss under painter in March.

Yea that hot hand that went 6-13 from the free throw line right?

Bull. It was poor on the court play that got us this loss, not coaching. Period.

Yeah, I was about 15 rows up behind the bench, painter said something for about 10 seconds and then let it go. The other Purdue and were given the refs more hell than painter did. Sad!!!

We struggle with athletic teams, especially on the perimeter. Whether it is Louisville, Minnesota, UALR, or Michigan. Our ability to make a deep tourney run will be limited by the matchups in our bracket not by seeding or coaching.

15 TO's and 6/13 FT's. It's that simple folks. That's not on CMP. Make FT's like we have all year and game is over with PJ at the line. Players lost game today.

Purdue could be seeded against St. Adele's School For The Blind at Mackey Arena on a Sunday when all of St. Adele's starters are at Mass and Painter would just stand there and watch Purdue blow it. Do NCCA coaches get to turn in their unused timeouts at the end of the season for air miles or something? Because Painter holds onto them while panic and destruction roars around him and he stands there with that oblivious look on his face. Painter cannot coach with tournament pressure on him - Period!

So our ability to make a deep run will be limited by matchups? Just like every single other team in the country.

Michigan had 5 fouls to 2 on Purdue in the second half, and then Beilein exploded on the refs because of a good call where the Michigan guy's foot was on the line. Next you know, Purdue has 8 fouls and Michigan has 6 and is getting flops to go their way. Don't know what Painter did or didn't go, but that happened.

Blaiming on the court play is for pussies. Painter had the game right where he wanted it. We were balling then he decided cline needed more minutes to do jack shit with.

??? Cline was in late because both CE, VE and Biggie were either in foul trouble or had fouled out.

This was on the players for sure. But these are the leaders that our coach had or kept in the game. PJ, DM, VE are guys we should or need to lean on and they let us down. Haas was one advantage today and we sat him for VE who just didn't play well. Maybe CMP could've or should've adjusted to what advantages or disadvantages we had.

Honestly fans that expect anything less than greatness should root for a MAC team. We won the B1G we should expect to win. So let me get this straight a player a coach recruited just plays the game...correct? But the Coach who recruits that same player, plays the players he wants in the game, adjusts during the game, call the plays and handles every part but shoot the ball...it'a never has fault??

His teams play tight more often than not. That's all coach.

I'll give you that they play tight from time to time but they were still placed in a position to succeed by the coach. More times this year than not we didn't tighten up and closed out or put teams away when it mattered most. It's been a slow process but I do thank Painter has adjusted over the years and loosened up a little with his players.
