Receivers...

Doubtful if Odom plays the same crap D that Walters played. And 8 is barely enough, injuries, special teams, etc. take a good look at the top teams rosters, 12-16 LB’s. Walters overloaded with DB’s; Brohm overloaded with WR’s,
He won’t play the same crap D, but I assume it will be the same good D he and his DC played at UNLV which used 2 LBs. If we had 14 LBs for 2 positions (7x), we would need about 165 players which is 1.5x roster limits. Assuming you only have room for about 4 per position, 8 is totally fine. We have 7, hoping we get Mani Powell to get us to 8. We can move guys around if necessary. Don’t forget we have a HARD roster limit of 105, last year I count 117 we won’t be able to carry as many players. And I think those teams you see with 12-16 will have to trim some back too.

New 5, 6th man

I feel like that’s always been our weakness - Dakota was a 1st half killer. Defense adjusted but we never adjusted our offense accordingly.

This is also part of Painter’s and Purdue’s challenges - we don’t get enough guys who can go and create 1on1. We get guys who are deadeye coming off screens and plays to open them up. We don’t get guys who you throw the ball to and say, go create.

This is part of my gripe when we get an offensive rebound and that guy is looking for the PG. Grab board - start dribbling and move! Take advantage of a mismatch.

We are more like “oh hey, this is going to be a 4v2, better slow it down so we can be 4v5 since our 5th guy can’t shoot”.

Receivers...

We will only play 2 at any time just like last year. I think 6 seasoned LBs is fine. We got the two Arkansas LBs, Berglund, Davis, Hudson, and two freshmen. One more would be good but I also think we can convert some edge rushers or even some larger DBs. Maybe Trey Smith.

update on portal

How many of our best players were going to stay if Walters kept his job? IMO, very few. Anyone could see by the body language on the field ,that the players no longer trusted the system.
The worst player to have on a team is the one that walks around saying that he could have left but stayed and then regretted it.
On what ever level or time period that any of us have played a team sport, we all have experienced teammates that left the team for various reasons..
Purdue obviously needs talent, but even more, Pudue needs players that want to play for Purdue....
Big Sky,MAC, Sun Belt, MAAC or The Big Ten?
They don’t pay. If you have cash you’d be seeing more guys stay and arrive from other schools. Walters sucked. That chapter is closed. That doesn’t mean I’m seeing a big ten level roster

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

Considering what's happened in the best... It wouldn't have eliminated any blowouts.
You keep saying that… but Michigan beat bama last year in Ot and Washington beat Texas by 6. They were both incredible games and the championship game was a 1 score game until the 4th quarter. The year before we’re 6 and 1 point games in semis including an upset. The year before had an upset in the semis and the 3 seed won it all.

You are cherry picking stats to try to justify indiana’s embarrassing loss and maybe make you feel better contrary to what all the experts are saying and also overlooking facts.

Also the tv viewers on these games were way more than what it would be for regular bowls. Last year after the two CFP semis the next 4 averaged about 4.4M viewers. The 4 first round games this year averaged almost 11m. Viewers clearly didn’t care about the blowouts.

Despite the good reviews, I wouldn’t mind seeing it dropped to 8 or 10 teams, preferably the latter with 2 first round byes to the SEC and B10 winners. The fact Arizona state and Boise state got a bye is ridiculous.

Walters hired

Well he wasn’t committed to that here. I’m not sure if maybe everyone just quit watching or what, but Thieneman was not playing that way for most of the year. What’s interesting is that last year when he was playing that way, he was an AA. Brought him up this year and he made literally zero plays on the ball and missed his fair share of tackles attacking near the Los.
This is a really good point.

Mind you, I haven't broken down any tape (I leave that to CRW) but it seems playing 30 yards back was quite an advantage in getting INTs. You're basically a center fielder playing that far. Be interesting to see how he does in a different system.

Big Ten

We’ve played the #1, 9, 10, 11, 20, 30 and 34 ranked teams in Kenpom already before the New Year. We have the 6th hardest schedule so far in the country. Do we have issues - definitely. Are we prepped to win the Big Ten - 100%. I have enjoyed watching this team so far - lot of ups and downs but sometimes those teams are the most fun to watch. Are we winning it all this year - no - but we are really setting a foundation for next year. Get our center back, grab one or two play makers in the portal and look out! Happy New Year!

Colvin and Heide yikes

Spell check changed JI to I've.......here is his pre Jan games. Unless I read this chart wrong it's 6 games pre Jan......

I never said anything about CE pre Jan games
I didn’t follow what you were saying. Yes, Jaden had an early season foot injury.

"Anything manned will die very fast."

My hope is that what Trump meant by 'hell to pay' if the hostages are not released is a joint attack on Iran to destroy all the nuc facilities - which maybe, just maybe, would bring down the corrupt, evil theocracy.
Right now, Iran's economy is in such abysmal shape that there is concern that their entire society and government will collapse. We can speed this along by allowing Israel to take out their oil terminals in addition to the nuclear facilities. The Biden zombie prohibits Israel from doing either, although it is screamingly obvious that there will never be a better opportunity to terminate Iran's nuclear program and cut off the oil revenue that has been funding the terrorism by Hamas and Hezbollah.

I can honestly tell you that if a Mich/Iowa/Wisc/JMU type played the same schedule with the same results, they wouldn't belong in the playoff either.

IU would not have been in the playoff if they had played PSU or Oregon to add to the pounding from tosu. It was simply scheduling luck that they didn't - and that means strength of schedule.
Huh... So when Michigan played a weak schedule in 2023... They didn't belong?
