Commitment and what it would mean now

Because man, there’s no group of veterans left over and no money. Hazell left behind ten players who graded 70 plus on pff on defense in 2017. That number went to 7 then 3 by 2019, so I know it wasn’t nick holt. Those players all played well in 2016 too.

Coletto couldn’t coach but he could recruit and left behind good talent for tiller.

The new coach won’t have that next year. Without that you need money.
You keep saying no money. Where are you seeing this? What does Purdue spend in NIL? Do you know how much their collective has?

And the idea would be the new coach would bring players to mix in. See iu for details.

If IU pulls off this class of Sisley/ Mullins/Haralson/Reibe.....

Wait. They said "We don't want Reibe because we'll just get a better transfer with an NIL deal". Someone else posted "Why even have assistant coaches if they can't land recruits". The 'mercenary' thing might not pan-out for their program as expected.

Why does Purdue win so many games because our kids are truly invested and want to become better vs. Give me money and I'll give you what I want.

Commitment and what it would mean now

Ok. But why can't a coach win 6 next year? You keep citing money. How do you know?

Purdue picked to win Big Ten

UConn is a massive brand too, especially coming off back to back national championships. UConn is on the top of the world at the moment. I'm not going to blame any kid for going there. They've got something working right.
Yup. They have the coach, the development, the culture, and the recent winning of 5 nattys in the past 25 years. They have replaced IU in the blue blood discussion and kids have taken notice. Woody has been a damn good recruiter for UConn.

We are starting to see the “brand” doesn’t have that much pull, even if NIL donors can bring $$$ to the table. Rumor is IU had the highest offer to Reibe, but he still went to UConn. Rumors of exact same thing goin to happen with Mullins.

Didn’t they both play for the recent USA team, U-19? I remember reading that Jacobson played much better than the higher ranked Reibe.

Don't know about that?

But what I have seen on Jacobsen so far makes me excited to see him contribute this year. Watching these frosh grow and blend their talents to a great team adds fun to what should be another great year of basketball. Kinda another great subplot.

I know the Paint Crew is going to go nuts over his blocked shots, and I hope we see a lot of that this year.

IU has a decent brand, but it is no where near what was 30 years ago. The big NIL donors are still there, however, and that is their biggest advantage.

Purdue’s brand has steadily been on the rise in the past decade and now is probably as strong as it’s ever been. The changing landscape of college basketball presents challenges to Painter’s more old school approach, but I love where the program sits right now.

So it went from IU is going to get Sisley, Reibe and Mullins to only getting Sisley.

Last year they got a kid from MontVerde then their season went south and he decommited.

Not saying history is going to repeat itself but it is certainly setting itself up for a repeat.
We’ll see how many games they lose and the coaches celebrate with cigars and red wine.

Commitment and what it would mean now

The state of the roster is bad. Two things. Poor recruiting and development pre Walters and no money. That made it a 4-8 roster with a lot of coaches.

Walters has then managed to be worse than 4-8 by being extra bad. But him being bad doesn’t mean that Chris creighton was winning 6 games
Ok. But why can't a coach win 6 next year? You keep citing money. How do you know?

Good players Purdue has recruited, developed and retained by class

Too much emphasis and assumption that the average tenure of a player at a program is 4-5 years. I’d imagine it’s 2.5 post transfer portal and is getting shorter by the day with NIL.

I don’t have the #s. I don’t necessarily care. I know that Purdue isn’t the only team NOT retaining talent. You’re stuck in the past here. Using a pre transfer portal indicator for retention in a transfer portal world.

You say you don’t care if Walters goes but you’re the #1 person beating the drum that the teams not talented. Pretty much everybody who was on that train is off of it after seeing the past 6 games of the season. I think you’re maybe the only person
Left ignoring what they see and over analyzing a situation that this coach has almost wholly created for himself.
Who left that was worth a shit besides Scourton and Burks?

Team speed and quickness

Walters likely won’t earn another year. If he did, the plan was to have Bradford take Steven’s spot, Marable take the MLB spot and Beasley take over at Breedlove spot.

The weak links of the defense are

Stevens
Green
Karlaftis
Anderson
Mba
Alisandro
Breedlove

In that order. Green has athleticism for days. He just makes awful decisions.

If the next coach switches to a 4-2-5, the problem becomes the DE spots. I’m not sure any of the rush ends can play there.
Green plays like he hasn't played college football in 3 years...which may actually be true. If Greens not ready I'm not sure why he's out there.

Indinia is 6-0 and . . .

I told you so! The media and casual fan could care less who the competition is. All the really matters to the casual fan and the media is their record! Indiana already qualified for a bowl game and is ranked in the top 25. When was the last time Purdue was ranked in the top 25?

And can we grow up about how to spell Indiana? That was funny the day it first happened’. After several years and people posting it ad nauseam, the joke is getting old and moldy. You are basically showing your maturity or basically the lack of it! What are you? A Purdue alumni? Or some drunk jock wanna be trying to impress your bar buddies?

As for Nebraska vs Indiana colors, I recall during the Hazell era when Purdue scheduled Iowa for homecoming so that the stadium would look like it was actually filled with fans wearing black and gold. More than half of the fans in the stadium that day were from Iowa.

Every time you say something negative about another school, there are just as many examples one could say about Purdue. The more you berate others, the more they will berate you!
we know.

Once a Hoosier, always a Hoosier.
