Grambling State seems to be a defensive focused team but struggles to score. Montana State is a 3pt shooting team with better drawn up sets and plays. We will see more in your face pressure from Grambling State but may have a situation where Montana State shoots the lights out.

Grambling State has a 19% defensive turnover ratio (forces a turnover 1 in 5 possessions - whoa), Montana State hit Ten 3-pointers in the conference title game.

I see plusses and minuses with both options.

If we can compre Grambling State to Rutgers, I'll take GS ... if we can play like we did against RU at Mackey. That was as well as we have played offensively all year.

Grambling State. Teams like Montana State, that live and die by 3-pointers, can be worrisome. It seems like we have had a tendency to give many open looks from the 3 in many first halves of games.

We are on a mission this year so I'm thinking we pound either of them though.

Montana St's PG can check Smith. And Purdue defensively isn't always the best at closing out on shooters.

Don’t care either way, part of me says Montana State. They might catch a heater against Grambling and hit a bunch of 3s then not be able to hit any come Friday.

Another scenario I thought of, I hope Kansas is our Sweet 16 opponent. Feel like we have matched up against them a couple of times in the tourney as the 4 v 1. We would hang close then lose steam come the second half. Would be awesome to watch them hang tight and we go on a run where we blow them out by 30.

This thread is making me break out in sweats. I’m sure I can expect nightmares come Thursday night too. All over playing a 16 1/2 seed. Oh, the cross of being a Purdue hoops fan.

Montana State has a big and shooters…..Painter already game planning to play Morton instead of matching offense with offense

7-17 on threes with 14 mins to play. They are going to take advantage of Edey in pick and pop.

Looking at the box score with 10 min left in the second half. Montana State up 56-50 a few thing stand out. First... Grambling is the defensive specialist with 2 steals while Montana State has 8.

Shooting is fine, Montana State has taken more 3's and is shooting like 47% which is almost unheard of. Grambling State is only shooting like 33% though, still not terrible but 10 less shots. Grambling State has a 9-3 advantage on offensive rebounds.

Two players from each team has 3 fouls but nothing that sends big feels about the foul out potential.

They both are sucking at Free Throws. 60% vs 40% for Montana State. That will help if we let them get to the line. One point game now. I'm rooting for Grambling State at this point. I'd rather take away the hot shooting scare, the defensive in your face approach doesn't seem to be working against a mid major and I can't imagine it would work against a top 3 team.

Ford is the best player on the floor for both teams. He does it all well.

Would rather avoid he abusing our guards

‘Grambling is not going to play pick and pop with Edey on the floor

Montana State is going to shoot a ton of 3’s
Ok, so they shoot a lot of 3s. They are doing that now and barely beating Grambling.

Play our 42+ pt ball we win vs either.. Not about them, about us.

If we are trading 3’s for 2’s/missing free throws and Painter goes defense with Morton. They will get knocked out again. Grambling State plays like a mediocre big ten team.

We don't do that alot at 42+

So your argument is that even if we score 80plus points Montana State still wins?

‘Purdue also does not defend like Grambling state
They have no bigs. It allows them to do some nice things, but I think that you are over-estimating them because Montana St can’t exploit their weakness.

Montana State has two many guys who are "the third" last names.

That lack of creativity is hurting them.
