I been saying this on this board for awhile. A majority of Posters on here see everything with a Black and Gold lens. I know it's a Purdue board but a lil reality would be nice. NO Purdue's BBall program support is not on IU's level. I am talking about fan base, money, enthusiasm etc... Yet Purdue has had as much of success as Painter did compared to Crean. I live in Indianapolis. Indy is Butler and IU territory. Purdue doesn't get alot of support in the state's biggest most important city compared to the other 2 schools. That's fine. It won't change even if Purdue won a championship. It would be much sweeter if it did happen.
Matt Painter runs a clean program compared to a majority of Div 1 programs. Look at 2 elite programs such as Louisville and North Carolina. Both schools got into some slimy NCAA messes... Yet because of who they are and the money involved they will end up with slaps on the wrist.
Some posters on here have written about Painter's body of work over 12 years pointing out now ONLY 3 sweet 16's, a shared Big 10 title, a Big Tournament win and an outright Big 10 title. OK well lets go a lil deeper and look at what I consider success.
Painter has been at Purdue now 12 seasons. Disregarding an inherited Keady team his 1st year. In Painter's last 11 seasons Purdue has made the NCAA Tournament 9 times a success rate of 82%. His overall record in the tourney is 10-9. A Winning record. I consider the tourney a chance to win like a lottery ticket. Once you are part of the 64 teams you have had a successful season and it's all gravy and fun to root for Purdue in the tournament.
Purdue will have a good team next year with or without Swanigan. If you want to bash Painter you will have a chance as his roster will have a great deal of change after the Seniors leave in 2018. I predict whatever the roster looks like in 2018-2019. Carsen Edwards will be the star of the team.
BTW you want to compare Painter to certain programs? Compare Painter to Minnesota or Illinois. Two Programs who have had success in the past. How does Painter's overall record look like compared to those 2 programs? I agree with Illinois new coach. No way Illinois should not be where it is considering it is the State's NAME school and the talent in Illinois.
