Purdue at Ohio State: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

This is a typical Painter coached team. Seen it way too many times. There play is trending down majorly as March nears. I hoped this season was different but it just isnt.

Starts with him shortening his rotation and losing trust in his other players from being involved in the offense.

But late season we are completely dependent on Smith, Edey to do it all and hoping the supporting cast of Loyer, Jones make a few buckets.

It can work when you have an NBA guard like Edwards or Ivey. Smith isn’t either of those 2 thus the importance of developing the talent around Edey.

All of our last 5 losses have look identical to this. Lol. Purdue allows a kid to get their head up and then they start looking at each other to who is going to take over. Edey get doubled and losses the ball or commits a TO because no one wants to shot from the outside and when they do they miss... This is how they have lost every game the last 2 years...

This is on Painter. I love his recruits. I love how he seemingly does , more with less. But we’ve had the same story every year with different players. He is in the only constant. Weve had 2 coaches in like 50 years and we’ve just accepted mediocrity

Edey looks slow and soft.

I will never understand how, in his fourth year, he still brings the ball to the ground. Just go up strong. Beyond bizarre that CMP doesn't shut his dribble drabble stuff down.
Sometimes it is a result of a poorly timed entry pass.

Edey just letting anyone slap it out of his hands. I guess we should keep setting up plays for turnovers and fast breaks

Painter has not developed anyone to backup Loyer

Continues to be a major issue. Get Colvin minutes the rest of the year. Need another shooter to backup Jones and Loyer.

Cam and Morton have not earned the minutes. What about Waddell?
And this is why developing Colvin and letting him take some lumps was so important.

Loyer’s disappearing act was inevitable, and now Painter has nobody to turn to.

too many swipe down TO's from Edey. Holding the ball high means when they swipe it will more likely be called a foul/ they won't hit the ball at all... Just another Purdue embarrassment and allows me not to have too much hope for a deep tourney run... Nothing has changed..

Not a single player is playing well today.

Maybe Smith - he's been relatively under control and ran the break well early. That's about it, though and is well in the rear view mirror. Zach Edey has shot ok, but has the let the defense get him before his decision too much. I'll give Ohio State credit, too....they'd be well up the standings if playing like this.

How is that a time-out before out of bounds? Classic Purdue give away there.....had the break and will cost them at least two.....back to seven.
