College basketball’s first-ever Selection Saturday wasn’t kind to the Big Ten.

The NCAA tournament selection committee sent a clear message that it’s not impressed with the league by not including a single one of its teams in its top 16.

Makes it pretty clear as to the fact that Purdue's ceiling is not nearly as high as some (many?) had hoped as well...no love last year for the conference, and even less this year...did not understand it last year, and understand it even less this year...as pointed out, SEC got way more love than they should have.

I think this will unite the Big10 family at large. Lots of Big10 fans going to be rooting for each and every Big10 team in the dance, especially vs. the SEC.

I saw an article the other day that pointed out that last year there was very significant differences between the early Top 16 seeding and that released on Selection Sunday in both positioning and inclusion.

So while I think Purdue got screwed today I am not that upset about it. Lots can happen in the near future.

Here's the breakdown. Us and Wisconsin should be ahead of Butler IMO. They had good wins against Villinova and Arizona but lose to Indiana State and couple of others.

I understand the frustration, but really good wins generally more than offset bad losses. That's not to imply that bad losses aren't considered at all. But if two teams have similar records (or otherwise are viewed to be close in seed/strength), the one with the better wins is likely to be in a stronger position.

Hollis mentioned Purdue as 1 of the first 3 teams outside the rankings. The team just needs to keep winning & they'll move up the list. It really is splitting hairs between teams about 12-18 right now. Just because Purdue was on the outside today doesn't mean they are doomed.

Purdue has 2 wins vs RPI top 25. 8 of the top 16 teams have 2 or fewer wins vs the RPI top 25.
Purdue has 5 wins vs RPI top 50. 6 of the top 16 teams have 5 or fewer wins vs the RPI top 50.

We destroyed Florida last year, they aren't really that much better this year! Can't wait to see Florida lose early in the tournament! The committee is almost completely clueless! I am tired of this crap from the committee!

I would add that Purdue is valued highly in several other metrics and some good ol' fashioned statistics.

BPI: 9th
Kenpom: 11th

5th in 3pt percentage on top 25 volume
25th in FT percentage
(those 2 are such a turnaround from a few years ago)

I think this team does have a higher floor and higher ceiling that any Purdue team in a long time. I still think it could run the table and get to the 3 line but I'd be fine with a 4 or 5 if Gonzaga was the 1.
