Larranga out at Miami

Heck he was fine with it when he left George Mason for a better deal and location.

Either move on and get with the new paradigm or leave but don't whine about it because kids get to do what you've gotten to do.
Miami was literally at the forefront on these crazy NIL deals. Gave Pack 800k over 2 seasons. That guy from LifeWallet paid for their entire roster. Now, his team sucks, and on the way out he complains about NIL!

Larranga out at Miami

He was fine with NIL when it helped him but now that his team sucks this year and sucked last year, it is a problem. He sounded like an out of touch baby during his press conference.

Glad to see him gone, same with Coach K….

Coach K, Laranaga, Jay Wright. Tony Bennett. Some big names pushed out by the NIL shenanigans. Better step in fast before all the good ones take off and you’re left with snake oil salesmen only.

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

They jumped too far from going from 4 teams, which was too small, to 12 teams, which is showing to be too much. They should have moved from 4 to 8 teams and seen the results.

Unlike basketball, where you can have a 2 to 3 make a big difference, the big bloods in football have a full team of difference makers. There is a Grand Canyon of talent difference between the top 5 to 6 teams and everyone else in football. Indiana could play Notre Dame another 9 times this year and still not win a single game, if they won then it would be an upset. When it came down to talent this year, it was men against boys out there in the Indiana/ND game.
You make it seem like the 4 team playoff was super competitive. I'll give you a hint, it wasn't.

Purdue recruiting Two transfer DBs add offers from Purdue

A pair of starting defensive backs in the transfer portal have picked up offers from Purdue: BYU safety Crew Wakley and Washington State’s Stephen Hall.

So, what happens now in Bloomington

Contrary to what some at IU have recently stated, Indiana is not a prime state for high school football. And with ND, UM, and Ohio State on the doorstep, it is that much harder to keep the top local kids at either Purdue or IU.

So it's gonna be really difficult to sustain.

The "proven-successful portal gets from smaller schools" strategy may be the best path to fairly consistent respectability. A consistent top 25 program? That's a tall order without talented high school kids, and that level of high school recruiting has not happened yet; may not ever happen. If it did that would be really impressive, but any IU (or Purdue) football fan that wouldn't be damn happy with 6 to 9 wins per year, from any method is fooling themselves.
So you will be happy with 3 wins after the usual 3 pre-btn cupcakes?

I doubt that, katjm23.

I don’t see how this is sustainable. Rosters are going to be 105 students and I think it is safe to assume you will need 30 new players each year between the portal and high school kids. Indiana has 8 portal commits right now, 2 are special teams, so 6 guys to backfill about 20 openings on the 2 deeps. You HAVE to develop your high school kids and then you can supplement with transfers. Exceptions would be first year or maybe two when you get a new coach and he brings the system and culture with them. I do think indiana can be a 4-8 win team with their strategy depending on how many cupcakes they schedule. But I don’t see any recruits they have that have a good chance of being all conference type players. I’m not saying they can’t but the laws of averages will play out and indiana will settle into a below average big ten team if they do not prioritize developing high school kids.

100% -- recruiting is going to have to rise program-wide to sustain. The resources are there for top tier recruiting in the NIL era.

It's an interesting organizational model; instead of trying to build from the bottom up, IU is trying to burn brightly with portal acquisitions and use that as leverage to increase the donations, recruiting budget, facilities, and program profile. Given how absolutely awful IU football has been historically, it seems like this is the only model that has a chance.

But it's only workable if the staff puts kids in the NFL. The level of portal talent isn't all that high - they've grabbed small school production over ranking and potential. But pretty soon IU will need a bunch of in-house kids to win jobs on the field.

Burn brightly? Thanks for the laugh.

Is that replacing 'love each other'?
Glad to fix it for you:

Maybe less amusing if I re-phrase it as "IU is trying to burn brightly get to the college football playoffs with an 11-1 season with portal acquisitions and use that as leverage to increase the donations, recruiting budget, facilities, and program profile."

Eva Hudson named AVCA Mdiwest Player of the Year

I still am struggling coming to grips with the fact that neither she nor Hudson will be in a Purdue uniform next season. I sort of understand Carr leaving for more playing time elsewhere, and MAYbe Myers, since she had been at PU for 4-5 years. Still, she was a solid MB and with Raven C’s departure (graduation) it would seem she would be in line for even more PT.

So if I have this correct, both Carr and Hudson are going to Kentucky? I can see Hudson sliding right in to a starter role, but Carr’s opportunity doesn’t seem as likely. Man this still just stings. Baffling, disappointing, deflating, and it makes me sad. But… adjust & adapt or be sad and angry. I don’t wanna spend energy being angry. If the new transfers lift this team, it will be great. I do trust CDS to manage this well. It’s how he’s wired. Boiler up - and happy holidays gang.

Colvin and Heide yikes

I’m sure it didn’t help.

If this season doesn’t go well (team finishes outside of the top 4 or 5 games this n Back g Ten and doesn’t make an NCAAT run) MP will need to reevaluate his approach to the portal.
He needs to reevaluate his approach to the portal no matter what.
Purdue is not going to become bigger and more athletic. We know exactly what this team is. Since we have no inside game other than TKR and are poor rebounding team, this team needs to hit a ton of 3s to win games against longer, more athletic teams. If that doesn't happen, we'll get run off the floor again and again.
