Faculty and teaching assistants are unionized in many states. Those universities are perfectly fine with no major issues. I doubt unionizing athletes would be that much of a hassle.Funny to think about all the potential scenarios, but I think what would happen is most schools would just stop participating in sports. We'd be just like the University of Chicago.
In states where teachers are unionized, salaries tend to be higher, as does job satisfaction. I'd much rather be unionized.I have witnessed first hand both the good and bad of unions.
it's about representation, not demands.I saw that. Will they strike if their demands aren't met? Will they demand pensions? Paid vacations? Time-and-a-half for overtime practices? If a player isn't getting the playing time he thinks he deserves, can he demand arbitration? Will playing time be determined by seniority?
Of course every contract is different. But the context was, does having a Union mean all employees make the same? The answer to that is no.It all depends on the agreed to contract.
Doesn’t having a union create a minimum standard salary? Could it be applied so that all players within the union receive a minimum amount of NIL money before others receive their bigger paychecks?Of course every contract is different. But the context was, does having a Union mean all employees make the same? The answer to that is no.
Having a Union just means your contract is collectively bargained. The contents of the contract is all negotiable.Doesn’t having a union create a minimum standard salary? Could it be applied so that all players within the union receive a minimum amount of NIL money before others receive their bigger paychecks?
Totally agree on Berg....I'd give him any minutes Colvin might get.On the same note for people clamoring for Colvin, why aren’t we seeing more Berg in game situations? Similar argument imo. Though we haven’t seen much of Berg to have a proper comparison.
I have worked in unions, and what you stated is a nice ideal, but not reality.it's about representation, not demands.
Same as for every union member in the country.
Your obsession with negativity on Colvin is over the top. Just very strange.Totally agree on Berg....I'd give him any minutes Colvin might get.
Wrong again. He gets credit today for one good defensive play, his first of the year. Your obsession to protect him leads me to believe you might be a relative.Your obsession with negativity on Colvin is over the top. Just very strange.
One of the worst things about unions, is that they're socialist in nature and the bad worker still gets the same benefits as the good worker. Thus, players have no need to work hard.Faculty and teaching assistants are unionized in many states. Those universities are perfectly fine with no major issues. I doubt unionizing athletes would be that much of a hassle.
I don’t believe most posters are negative towards Myles. Contrary, most posters are very knowledgeable and the type of players he gives a lot of minutes to. And they are speculating that because Myles has not been receiving very many minutes that there must be a reason.Your obsession with negativity on Colvin is over the top. Just very strange.
In the building trades those such workers get laid off, all about the bottom line these days, Capitalism to a T. In the trades in Northwest Indiana the poor workers better hope BP has lots of work, that’s where they go, won’t cut it anywhere else. One of the worst things about unions, is that they're socialist in nature and the bad worker still gets the same benefits as the good worker. Thus, players have no need to work hard.
That's certainly not how it works in unions for professional athletes. They share some benefits (pensions, etc.), but the harder working and more talented players get paid more. One of the worst things about unions, is that they're socialist in nature and the bad worker still gets the same benefits as the good worker. Thus, players have no need to work hard.
Wrong again, the comment was about Berg playing time and you say give him Colvin's minutes. As if either of them have anything to do with each other. Not even the same position.Wrong again. He gets credit today for one good defensive play, his first of the year. Your obsession to protect him leads me to believe you might be a relative.
BS - explain what part I'm wrong about.I have worked in unions, and what you stated is a nice ideal, but not reality.
Clueless. And dumbOne of the worst things about unions, is that they're socialist in nature and the bad worker still gets the same benefits as the good worker. Thus, players have no need to work hard.
don't bother with facts. Some of these idiots (trumpies) doin't "Do" facts. That's certainly not how it works in unions for professional athletes. They share some benefits (pensions, etc.), but the harder working and more talented players get paid more.
You, among others, were screaming for him to play over Loyer....Oh he's so much better so give him a chance. The fact is, he's simply not good enough right now. Hasn't been and won't be the rest of the season though WE both wish he were. It would be great for the team. Hopefully a summer at Purdue will help Myles improve to the point where he's a "threat" to start and play huge minutes.Wrong again, the comment was about Berg playing time and you say give him Colvin's minutes. I don't "protect" him at all. Just seems weird how you obsess over him. Others have commented on your obsession too. Makes me wonder how much you even watch college basketball. But you have a good day.
You have me confused with someone else. I have been very clear in my position on Myles:You, among others, were screaming for him to play over Loyer....Oh he's so much better so give him a chance. My posts are simply the facts as they are today. May you have a blessed and prosperous day.
I have not ever bashed Myles. I've simply stated the facts that the kid has no defensive skillset. He's one of those too many HS players who enter college who never had to play defense in HS, but was considered the stud. It's way harder to learn it when you haven't before. And DEFENSE wins games. You have me confused with someone else. I have been very clear in my position on Myles:
I feel that early in the season against lesser opponents he didn't play as much as I would have liked to see him play. I don't think that is a crazy position to have taken. Once it became apparent that he wasn't going to get serious minutes, my only complaint was that IF CMP was going to play him (note I said IF) then at least run some stuff for him so we can take advantage of the one thing he does well right now which is shoot the basketball through the hoop. You will find no complaints of me saying he should play over Loyer, I just said if you're going to play him, use him.
You on the other hand, have gone out of your way to bash him and make it sound like the kid can't do anything to help our team. IMO, you have been over the top about it and others have agreed and called you for it. This last one was really crazy saying Berg should get his minutes. Very strange take by you.
Of course in another thread you said IU only needed to win one more game to make the dance, so I guess we should consider the source.
You are the only person that thinks IU wins one game and they are in. There are zero bracket experts that have IU even in the conversation of the dance, little lone getting in with just one more win.I have not ever bashed Myles. I've simply stated the facts that the kid has no defensive skillset. He's one of those too many HS players who enter college who never had to play defense in HS, but was considered the stud. As for Berg, I'm looking for good things from him in Zach's absence, and think he needs work.
I did say that about IU. And the simple fact is, those who select like teams who travel well, spend money, and rent rooms. IU is on a current year end roll, and while I hope they don't even make the NIT, my belief is they will...and this is what I said...win a game in the tourney, they're in.
Your many posts saying that he had nothing to offer the team this year, and expressing doubt that he would ever learn defense or contribute in the future, are way closer to "bashing" than any post by others saying he should get more minutes were to "screaming for him to play over Loyer". You are living in delusion.I have not ever bashed Myles. I've simply stated the facts that the kid has no defensive skillset. He's one of those too many HS players who enter college who never had to play defense in HS, but was considered the stud. It's way harder to learn it when you haven't before. And DEFENSE wins games.

That's not a fact at all.And the simple fact is, those who select like teams who travel well, spend money, and rent rooms.
If they win exactly one game in the BTT, and are selected for the NCAA tournament, I will send $100 to the charity of your choice.IU is on a current year end roll, and while I hope they don't even make the NIT, my belief is they will...and this is what I said...win a game in the tourney, they're in.
I will make it $500.That's not a fact at all.
If they win exactly one game in the BTT, and are selected for the NCAA tournament, I will send $100 to the charity of your choice.
IU will be a NIT team unless they win the tournament which I highly doubt. Ware is playing himself into a top 10-15 first round draft pick though.Indiana has a 3-8 Quad I record, a 5-4 Quad II record, a 4-1 Quad III record, and a 6-0 Quad IV record. The quadrant system is used to identify which teams have more quality wins when it comes to Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. They are 18-13 so far on the year and are now 93 in jet ranking. I am fairly confident that a couple B1G tournament wins won’t raise them up enough in the rankings to get in. Their best win is MS (also 18-13) and the lost twice to PS and lost to Rutgers.
You made 2 statements. In practice, both are wrong.BS - explain what part I'm wrong about.
Somebody is triggered. Your communist leanings are showing.I come from multiple generations of union workers and have worked in them myself. What you want them to do, they aren't doing.don't bother with facts. Some of these idiots (trumpies) doin't "Do" facts.
LOL - Typical, goes right to Commie calling. So inventively thought too. Let me guess, Trump much?Somebody is triggered. Your communist leanings are showing.I come from multiple generations of union workers and have worked in them myself. What you want them to do, they aren't doing.
We were commenting on unions and you brought up Trump. Twice now. Why?LOL - Typical, goes right to Commie calling. So inventively thought too. Let me guess, Trump much?
If they get a couple that means they beat PurdueI’m still leaning on MSU being the time that surprises others and gets a couple of BIG 10 tournament wins and maybe an upset. I also don’t see any blowouts or easy games happening for Purdue.
