That doesn’t make it false that were he in brohms shoes we’d probably have more than 4 known good players at RB, CB and S combinedFitz took over an already successful program.

Just those positions ..Those are really the only 4 players you can name and call quality? Or just those positions? Why you keep ignoring Grant at safety? What's wrong with Horvath at RB?
What's Allen done that Grant hasn't? I wouldn't say Dorue has struggled with injuries due to 1 injury.Just those positions ..
Marvin grant has proven what exactly? He has played how many games at safety? He plays 8 even solid games this year yeah.. mark him down as a known player for next year.
nothing is wrong or entirely remarkable about Horvath to this point. What is glaring is that other than doerue, who has struggled with injury, we have who exactly? That’s done anything?
I think I remember Iowa was in trouble against us one year because of injuries at RB. They were down to their SIXTH stringer lol… six.
And Lewis. We ran a 3 man front and had no DE depth.
Watts was at the 1 technique and had Lawrence and austin behind him. We also have Boyd who looks like he could play either spot.
Did you pay any attention to the ~10 transfers we got since last season? They’re not going to help at all? You make it sound like D-Haze is still the coach. The issue is if we're still in a development season in year 5 and recruiting is starting to decline again, it doesn't inspire much confidence that this program is on the rise...
Are you kidding me with that first question? You’re serious? Really? What's Allen done that Grant hasn't? I wouldn't say Dorue has struggled with injuries due to 1 injury.
I think they will.. but we just don’t know who and where yet. By this time next year I’m hoping we have 22 starters accounted for and 5-7 guys on each side of the ball who are ready to get in thereDid you pay any attention to the ~10 transfers we got since last season? They’re not going to help at all? You make it sound like D-Haze is still the coach.
Agreed that we won’t know who will be big contributors right away, but if I had to guess: OC Brothers at LB, Jabari Brown at CB, either/both Lewis/Boyd at DT, and for sure Tyler Witt at OG. We will have a new P and PK too. Not sure about Broc Thompson being a starter at WR.I think they will.. but we just don’t know who and where yet. your first paragraph is realistic… that’s more than reasonableAgreed that we won’t know who will be big contributors right away, but if I had to guess: OC Brothers at LB, Jabari Brown at CB, either/both Lewis/Boyd at DT, and for sure Tyler Witt at OG. We will have a new P and PK too. Not sure about Broc Thompson being a starter at WR.
I also think Joseph Anderson might get some run at DE.
Well if that's the case. George K is injury prone as well. So is Yanni. Are you kidding me with that first question? You’re serious? Really?
call it what you want.. “injuries have kept him off the field.” You’re talking about two guys who haven’t established Markell Jones/dj Knox level play.. and nothing else
Did you think they weren't? They aren't better than Purdue.your first paragraph is realistic… that’s more than reasonable
also, the more I look at the videos… the more I think Nebraska, northwestern and Minnesota might almost be swing games after the 4 wins I think are in the bag.
Additionally if Petras is still petras Iowa could be in trouble .,
When grant played he proved as much as George when George played? I’m talking known quantities. I have high hopes for grant and doerue, but we haven’t seen enough when healthy to already have them in the established categoryWell if that's the case. George K is injury prone as well. So is Yanni.
They will have the nod from almost everyone going into the season. All three will be considered upsets if we win. I’m sure there are Illinois fans who think the same as you do about those three teams about us. They are wrongDid you think they weren't? They aren't better than Purdue.
...and 9 losses in 2019?You think development has been great? Really? Lol
yes I’m talking about retention. Give brohm and pat Fitzgerald 85 scholarships and four years and you tell me Fitzgerald is sitting there with Alexander horvath, a still unproven king doerue who has shown flashes, and … and .. and..
Honestly I hope we win them all. My craving of reality, whatever that is, comes from predicting we would win them all in 2005.. I think samardzja just caught another pass over Zach Logan as I typed this....and 9 losses in 2019?
(To NW's credit, they did hammer UMass that year.)
By the way.. to me cam Allen may go down as the best S other than Stu in the post tiller hire era. To me it would be tough to take him over Adrian Beasley at this point. Id take him over anyone else … even pollardDid you think they weren't? They aren't better than Purdue.
NW sure was better at holding receivers than Purdue. We need to fix that this year.Did you think they weren't? They aren't better than Purdue.
I really hope the big ten stops allowing that against us one day…NW sure was better at holding receivers than Purdue. We need to fix that this year.
Pollard would hold up better in the west now than he did back then. Lots of run heavy teams and he could always play the run well.By the way.. to me cam Allen may go down as the best S other than Stu in the post tiller hire era. To me it would be tough to take him over Adrian Beasley at this point. Id take him over anyone else … even pollard
True I just think Allen is so heady and has less of the other stuff going on off the field.Pollard would hold up better in the west now than he did back then. Lots of run heavy teams and he could always play the run well.
Lol. Fleck and Allen didnt have rebuilds Dafuq are you talking about.rather than your trips down memory lane to a different era of football, and football recruiting, you need to start comparing brohm to his current contemporaries fleck and Allen. they all started the same year. they all had rebuilding jobs in front of them . 2 have succeeded. one has only got worse.
A poster on the first page said you don't have underclassmen starting in the trenches. Well, that may apply to Purdue, but it doesn't apply to any actual successful or championship program. Sure, they have seniors, but the successful teams also have underclassmen starting as well.
as for developing players. it's past time the y learned how and started. We're placing a lot of hopes this year on players who transferred here, and basically developed elsewhere. it's like the Cubs signing Greg Maddox and then saying he learned everything from their pitching coach. purdue red shirts a lot of players. But i don't see much development in those players. all i see is them leaving and developing and playing elsewhere.
you claim nobody of note has transferred away. my claim is they weren't worthy of note when purdue recruited them to begin with.
you claimed it takes 4 years to develop depth. Well we've had 5. and now because of 1 injury, we are complaining about a lack of depth once more? maybe we could shift some of those millions of dbacks, receivers and quarterbacks on our roster to the line.
5-1.. again, it’s not you I think is on a much different page ..
I won’t want brohm fired no matter how this year goes, but if it goes south I already know hazells name will come out
True I just think Allen is so heady and has less of the other stuff going on off the field.
I don't think anyone here thinks that's still a question from your perspective ...The issue is if we're still in a development season in year 5 and recruiting is starting to decline again, it doesn't inspire much confidence that this program is on the rise...
And like I said, 1 year to 5. I’m not knocking brohm. I’m knocking the idea that if things go bad in year 5 it’s Darrell hazells fault. That ship sailed. Darrell hazell isn’t why we don’t have more running backs and DBs who have played.. as bad as he wasTiller walked into Purdue with 5 future NFL guys already enrolled at OL. There is your difference.
That's one HUGE difference.Tiller walked into Purdue with 5 future NFL guys already enrolled at OL. There is your difference.
To me, individually I like his talent better. Now, when you’re covering for weaknesses all over the defense .. you’re gonna look worse.I like Allen a lot but better than Pollard? Maybe if he has a breakout year but he’s not there yet. I don’t know if I would put him above Torri Williams and I couldn’t stand that guy (if you want to talk about off the field issues).
Allen is the best and most known quantity on the defense behind GK in my opinion at this point though. I’m not sold on Trice yet because though I think he makes good plays on the ball, especially when he’s playing zone, but I don’t think he’s a great cover corner.
My hope is Alexander takes a big step this year and Mitchell has the year I think his talent is capable of. Some players emerge on the D-line along with GK and then I think this defense could be good enough to win 7-8 games but that’s a lot of ‘if’s’.
I agree.I will be very surprised if at least five of the new guys aside from the kickers dont help the team improve.Agreed that we won’t know who will be big contributors right away, but if I had to guess: OC Brothers at LB, Jabari Brown at CB, either/both Lewis/Boyd at DT, and for sure Tyler Witt at OG. We will have a new P and PK too. Not sure about Broc Thompson being a starter at WR.
I also think Joseph Anderson might get some run at DE.
Again, if I was saying brohm should have done it by year 1, it would be a terrible comparison. That's one HUGE difference.
There were also two WRs and one RB who saw time in the NFL. (!!)
Not to mention a decent amount of depth (and experience) in general on both sides of the ball.
Another is that the game has changed tremendously, and Tiller had the right formula at the right place at the right time.
It's easy to ignore what an uphill climb the program was facing just a few short years ago..
So you're saying this won't be a development season? I guess you're sticking to your 8-4 prediction?Did you pay any attention to the ~10 transfers we got since last season? They’re not going to help at all? You make it sound like D-Haze is still the coach.
Well ya. That's why you don't trust preseason rankings. They are pointless. They will have the nod from almost everyone going into the season. All three will be considered upsets if we win. I’m sure there are Illinois fans who think the same as you do about those three teams about us. They are wrong
So let me ask you a question. Let's just say Purdue goes 5-7 or 6-6 this coming year. I think either of those records are realistic at this point. And if we look at Brohm's record he would then be 7-6, 6-7, 4-8, 2-4, and 5-7/6-6 with 2 bowl appearances and one bowl win. Would you consider that appropriate progress on a rebuild for any coach in their 5th year?I don't think anyone here thinks that's still a question from your perspective ...
😉
I'll play your game. How many underclassmen iu have last year? How about minny in their 10 win season. Helps iu hasn't played anyone under Allen.rather than your trips down memory lane to a different era of football, and football recruiting, you need to start comparing brohm to his current contemporaries fleck and Allen. they all started the same year. they all had rebuilding jobs in front of them . 2 have succeeded. one has only got worse.

To your question. Yes. Thats appropriate. But why is 5-7 not feasible? So let me ask you a question. Let's just say Purdue goes 5-7 or 6-6 this coming year. I think either of those records are realistic at this point. And if we look at Brohm's record he would then be 7-6, 6-7, 4-8, 2-4, and 5-7/6-6 with 2 bowl appearances and one bowl win. You continue to say you're just looking for progress, and you continue to dismiss anyone else's criticism of current progress. So what is your opinion on what the progress should be? And don't come back with "It's Bobinski's job to judge progress". I want your opinion on what the progress should be. If not, then maybe you should stop criticizing other opinions...
And a RB. As far as I know we only have three....He better find a QB then.
Meh. Brohm can win with a meh RB. He cant with a meh QB.And a RB. As far as I know we only have three....
Those three teams are in a better position than us … should be 60/40-55/45 them ..Well ya. That's why you don't trust preseason rankings. They are pointless.
Yeah but Brohm took over a roster who had two superior quarterbacks and two superior running backs than he has now. This is the year Brohm needs to do better with his recruits than he did with DH's. By the way, two years ago I wouldn't have believed I would have ever of wrote that.Meh. Brohm can win with a meh RB. He cant with a meh QB.
I wouldnt call knox and jones superior. Middle of the pack Big ten, maybe. Same for Blough. Sindelar never proved it over a season.Yeah but Brohm took over a roster who had two superior quarterbacks and two superior running backs than he has now.
