Shout out to PJ

PJ Thompson wasn't picked for the press conference, and wasn't the MVP of this game, but his contributions were crucial.

Each of his 3 pointers came at critical times in the game. He had 6 assists with zero turnovers, plus 4 rebounds. He played 34 minutes - more than anybody else.

He's just solid, a great leader, and a great guy to have on the team.

Well stated. Many didn't think he could play in the Big and was a last second pickup, but he has played about as well as he can and has improved every year. He is a GREAT teammate that puts the team ahead of himself and hopefully paves the way for his brother to Purdue in a few... :)

I love PJ. Understands his role, works hard, plays within himself.
I will never forget watching Purdue team warm up in a preseason tourney last year. I compared PJ to Stephens. One was jacking up shots willy nilly like he was playing horse, the other was methodically going through a shooting routine focusing on shooting from 3 spots only. Balls flying everywhere, big men practicing hook shots, guys goofing around, nothing threw him off his routine. You can guess which is which. Come game time, against Florida, lose ball comes out for a wing three, PJ steps up and knocks it down, just exactly as he had done in the warm up earlier. He would end up being man of the match that day. The other player instead bricked a few that first half, and later transferred out.
Moral of the story, steady consistent hardwork trumps talent always. PJ exemplifies that. Excellent young man.

Probably most people didn't see him tip an errant Notre Lame shot to a Boiler near the end of the game. That's the kind of hustle that wins games.

Although his play doesn't remind me much of LewJack at all, the fan reaction to him does remind me of LewJack. Some fans just focus on what they don't do instead of all that they do bring.

I think the thing I respect most is that he is all about the team.

As a freshman, bring in Octeus. No complaints. Work hard. Get better.
As a sophomore, bring in Hill. No complaints. Work hard. Get better.
As a junior, bring in Spike. No complaints. Work hard. Get better.

I guess I should say that no only did he not complain, I think in a couple of those instances, if not all of them, it was mentioned that he was instrumental in helping to recruit said player to Purdue. I don't think there are many players that would go out of their way to try to bring a player in that would seriously compete with them for minutes.

He's never going to be an all-conference player but he's a player we can win with.

Agree
Love his play

He even finished with another patented PJT loose ball/tie up
Reminded me of his best one

Glad to see this thread. PJ deserves the praise. The media focuses on and rewards the highlight film plays and ignores the type of steady play that wins games.

Outside of Moore and Hunmel, I am not sure of many scholarship players that I thought would become good coaches under CMP...PJ is one of them. I'll bet me ends up an assistant under Painter at some point.
Was just thinking the same thing as I read this thread.

PJ is a Boiler thru and thru. Old school kind of guy. Seems to have an excellent attitude and works his butt off. The kind of guy Coach Keady would have liked. An over achiever.
