How to Watch & Game Thread: #1 Purdue at Northwestern

Everyone’s game plan now is to beat up Zach and Fletcher. Someone else will need to hit some open shots.
1) Trap our guards
2) Defending guards are slipping under our screens - no respect for our shooting from deep. Can't blame them - IPFW shoots it better from deep
3) Double team ZE. As we learned today he's just as likely to find our bench as he is an open man

NW was already comfortably in the tourney. Lunardi had them as a 9 seed as of 2/10. If the refs let us play, we should play. Our guards are soft.
I don't know how soft they are if you mean mentally, but they are not as physically mature as older players. No secret in that...you don't get to Purdue's status with soft guards. They don't have the same physical stamina and strength as more mature physical players and with that less mature body there is a lot more tape on them than early in the season.

Coaches talk and try not to give excuses to team based upon officials, but the fact is official do in fact affect play. Skill teams "generally play better" with quicker whistles, freedom of movement, no hand checking or straight arm when dribbling etc.. Athletic teams want officials to swallow the whistle and let the more physical or athletic team play more physical. That is just the nature of the game.

When two teams play officials have a say in whether it is a play on or not. Oficials may see inside play much different than the perimeter...and that difference may grow or shrink depending on the rotation of the three refs and who is out and who is in for whatever end of the court they are on at the time.

No matter the outcome, these Purdue/NU games (no matter what sport ) are bittersweet for me, as I am a fan of both schools. Hopefully, Purdue will get these games out of their system, learn from them, then come tournament time, have a deep run. Also, hoping tourney games will be called a little tighter where Zach doesn't get clobbered like he has been the entire B1G season.

Mentally. And physically. Soft.

Gotta disagree with that. Youth has been fine in other crunch times and are mentally tough. Surprised even all the talking heads as well as coaches talk about how good they are...how competitive they are. Matt and all the players can't believe how mentally tough and confident they are, but you have the right to hold whatever opinion you want. I do agree that they are not as physically mature though
