Butler v. Purdue Game Thread

Hey C'mon...when a team has 14 TO's.....15 as I type.....it's in trouble. Can't do that against the good teams. Butler is playing tough, but it's not the Arkansas or Louisville-type pressure defense.
yep, the team has been rattled the whole game......not much time left to turn it around

Swanigan has nearly half of our turnovers.

Hill has 3, but then everyone else is 1-2. Swanigan has gotta get that under control, it's killing us.

Yes, Purdue is playing bad, but I think Butler is treated as NCAA darlings and are allowed to get away with a little more than most teams in terms of physicality. Letting them play in the post really isn't supposed to happen this year according to the NCAA points of emphasis.

This. Where's Paul George when you need him? He'd know exactly what to say about the refs.

It's one game......looks like it's Purdue' first loss......hopefully they learn from it and play well Tuesday.

Still time left......no need for a complete meltdown either way....JMHO.

not over yet but g'damn what a turd being laid. different scenarios but almost akin to getting shredded by VCU. Poor execution, turnovers and shit the bed. Learn. do better!

I don't disagree.....some of those are that he hasn't had an outlet.....but he's gotta recognize the pressure coming a little sooner....no doubt.

There's definitely a lot to learn. I've gotten some crap for not totally buying into the ranking hype, but there's no need for a meltdown.

The problem is that we turn around and play another good team on Tuesday.

Overall, our team focus needs to be better. Our big guys have got to play with more confidence. And we have to protect the basketball a LOT better.

I don't think it's really a VCU situation (they were just on fire). Butler is still only shooting 40%. We're shooting 40%. Butler has 14 more shot attempts than Purdue though.

TURNOVERS are the difference.

Yeah it is one game. But some will jump off the ledge anyway...
meh, more likely just some disappointed venting. and if fans / faithful 'jump' after taking one licking then let the ledgies jump. 'they' say you "learn more from losses then from wins..." so as long as the team watches the video, listens to the coaches and learns from this.. way better to get whipped in Dec than March : )

BTFU!!

cmp shit the bed in the first half and let this team get its head up. butler was downhill on us the minute he sat aj. cmp wont even yell at the refs.

You aren't going to keep playing Hammons with 2 fouls when you have a capable back-up. It'd be one thing if you were getting dominated. But it was a very close game at halftime, no need for Hammons to be in there.

Quit blaming the refs. That's weak sauce. Bitching about the officiating when your team is getting outplayed is for losers.

Not to mention the foul differential is...four. Foul shot difference is...four.

Those aren't eye-opening discrepancies. Have the refs called a great game? I definitely would not say that. But I think it's been pretty bad all-around, not focusing on Purdue.

Yes Biggie has a bunch of TOs but let's not be too hard on him. Butler can totally collapse into the lane because our guards can't shoot. Our guard play needs to pick up.

normally capable. not today. and he started the 2nd half.

This game has been all about shot attempts. Butler is +15 in FGA thanks to being +10 in TOs & +6 in OReb. They are +4 in FTA but haven't taken advantage of that.

Both teams are shooting very similar % with PU

Yes, he didn't start the second half because you neve know if the refs are going to call things tighter, which is not uncommon at the start of the half. Don't put your big guy in foul trouble in at the beginning in that stretch. Then, Hammons came in.

Yes, there's been a couple instances of this. But he's had a lot of turnovers in several other games. This isn't a unique situation, otherwise I'd agree.

It's not the foul differential that's the problem. It's the allowance of Butler to shove our bigs out of their spots. They aren't using their hands, but their bodies which is harder to call. Also our bigs have to be tougher about establishing and keeping their position.

Appl State 7 Ohio 0 on ESPN.

It will be interesting how we respond to this game. That little freaking school in Indy has our number. Sad.

Haas fouled on rebound...........come on, these are fouls

Haas gets mugged so much. thought they were going to call another "foul" on his rebound right there when the lil bulldog ran into him and bounced off / fell to the floor. It sucks but he needs to get used to it. games will obviously be called this way away from Mackey. Hell, sometimes even AT Mackey, since the refs don't seem to know wtf a foul is (e.g. a lil guy runs into a 7'2" and falls, ergo it 'must' be a foul on Haas)

Woohoo! Butler fouled us shooting a fade-away. I wish our bigs would ease up on the fade-aways...sigh.

Exactly....it'd be one thing if we're doing everything we can, but we just want to play the same, expect to get everything handed to us. Like if the refs are letting you play, then BE AGGRESSIVE. Our guys aren't doing that.

It's almost crazy that when we have 2 big guys, we don't see offensive fouls. Like if we have that ability to play both of these guys, they need to not be so shy of contact.
