Butler v. Purdue Game Thread

BY FAR the best team we played this year. This is a sweet 16/elite 8 game right here. Time to see what balls this team has. 1st round draft pick AJ has to show up in the 2nd half. Team needs to chill out as well.
Purdue needs to:
1. Get AJH in the game - literally and mentally - and be productive. Can't pick up a quick 3rd foul. Butler's bigger guys have 2 and 3 fouls each. And on top of that, Haas played a lot more minutes than he typically would, he won't be able to play significant minutes effectively.
2. Get the turnovers under control. 8 turnovers in the first half. Credit Butler's defense on some of these, but some stupid stuff too.
Butler wants this game more than Purdue. Period.
I almost (almost...) hope Purdue loses this game because of that one reason. So far, Purdue needs to realize that you can't just show up against inferior competition and expect to win. You still have to execute, and WANT IT MORE THAN THE OTHER TEAM.
Playing flat footed defensively towards the end of the first half, and making dumb mistakes. Refs seem to be letting them play the game down low, where as Purdue is expecting fouls.

Agree that AJH being out and extended minutes for IH didn't help......I think the quick pace was a problem too....take the break when it's there......Butler may have been a little tired too....ended up shooting 34%, 3-10 from three.
Credit Butler....they are solid......they also did a good job stopping the inside play......but if Purdue recognizes it enough, opportunities are there.....they are doubling sometimes off the ball.

Butler's in you face aggressive don't back down D caught us by surprise. Need to adjust.
We just played our worst half of the year to a really good butler team and are only down 4 at the half. Things can only really go up from here and I've been really impressed with half time adjustments in the games that were close. Need to slow the game down and play our game in the second half.

I agree Purdue must realize as season goes on. Being ranked means having a target on your back. Teams use beating a ranked team to impress the NCAA Tournament. Ranked in top 10? You are getting every team's best shot.
2 fouls.. he's not playing well either.. Haas just needs to go up stronger.
Painter isn't going to put Hammons in to start the second half to have him enter the game and get his 3rd foul. He's going to let the half get started then get him inserted. They could start calling the second half a lot closer than they have been and you don't know it until it starts. Smart.
Per the graphic just shown.. we've had 3 ft"s to their 9... I'm okay with not calling things, just be consistent.
More importantly... there is just no fire right now. That is the bigger issue...
ARE WE AWAKE OUT THERE?!??! Team is playing lazy and so dumb. Painter make some adjustments to counter their guards doubling down on our bigs!!!!
