Butler v. Purdue Game Thread

This game has been all about shot attempts. Butler is +15 in FGA thanks to being +10 in TOs & +6 in OReb. They are +4 in FTA but haven't taken advantage of that.

Both teams are shooting very similar % with PU

I think Purdue has been exposed here. After last season... Purdue's guards and wing players still can't hit 3's consistently against good competition. You can fix the turnovers. You can't fix shooting. Edwards really should have played well offensively in this game. Going into this game you hoped Purdue would show what a really good team it is. Unfortunately Purdue is still good but alot of weaknesses were exposed here. Opponents will study the game film.

Look at Butler's offense. Driving, kicking the ball out for open shots. R Davis is the team captain and has he scored? It's just a non conference loss against a good team. But really disappointing the way this team came unraveled. I would have thought R Davis would have kept this team glued together. Their are no Hummels or E Moores on this team.

Exactly....it'd be one thing if we're doing everything we can, but we just want to play the same, expect to get everything handed to us. Like if the refs are letting you play, then BE AGGRESSIVE. Our guys aren't doing that.

It's almost crazy that when we have 2 big guys, we don't see offensive fouls. Like if we have that ability to play both of these guys, they need to not be so shy of contact.
You need a time-out. You're too logical when people are pissed:)

A few things called our way, and some confidence............and PU looks like the better team again..........funny

Correct.
I don't understand how that is called and so many other 3-4 step plays didn't
That is the inconsistency in officiating that is aggravating. How is AJ moving the same foot twice while maintaining pivot foot a travel while all these Butler "euro steps" are not? How is a one hand touch on a driver a foul while mugging a big guy is not?

I think there's a lot more to it outside of the turnovers. The turnovers are the #1 problem. And like you said, you can fix those.

You look at the first half, Hammons picked up a really unnecessary 2nd foul. And after that, Haas stayed in and did fine, but Haas eventually needed a breather and things got a little shaky.

Being able to establish the inside game is CRITICAL. When Hammons was on the bench, Butler really locked down on the perimeter defense. If we can establish an inside game, it will loosen up our guards. That is absolutely critical to our success. Our guards are ok, but if teams can lock down on them, then they're not that great against a good defensive team.

We're almost the exact opposite of other teams.

We still lost though. Not getting my hopes up. Knowing us we'll turn the ball over and Butler will hit a three.

Can we please stop going to Stephens in the clutch. We need a leader on this team. Looks like it might be Biggie.

Here now biggest fix I've ever seen

Was it our own players fixing the game with 18 turnovers?

Purdue shot 42% compared to Butler's 39%.

Purdue had 10 more turnovers than Butler. Butler had 11 more field goal attempts than Purdue.

Turnovers are the ball game, plain and simple.

The final 2-3 minutes, the officiating was even, and Purdue played like it normally does.

I'm glad they woke up after 35 minutes of mediocre play. We played Purdue basketball for 5 minutes against a top 25 team, and only lost by 2 possessions.

I'll take it, as long as they learn from this experience.

Roosevelt Jones sounds like a pimp name.

damn, why didn't they foul the pimp though.. instead let lewis go. wtf?

oh well, that's game. too little, too late. turnover madness and until late, no 3pt shot, not much sense of urgency.

boiler up -- everyone have a good one; catch ya next time

I haven't looked at box score, but it seemed like they out-rebounded us too. Not a good thing when you have such a big front court...

Not arguing, but the officiating was interesting............especially when PU got the calls it wasn't late, late in the second half

Unfortunately, it didn't appear to be a sense of urgency until the last 5 minutes....I like that Purdue made a game of it.....a lot of things to work on, however.

BoB, I felt the same. They let Jones get inbound and wait 3 sec before passing to Travis (I know that's not even close to his name, but it sounds similar, and I have no idea how to spell it), before fouling. Should have fouled Jones!
