Minutes per game by position for the NCAA Tournament

Name C PF SF SG PG

BIGGIE 15 18

VINCENT 22 7

DAKOTA 17 13

ISSAC 25

PJ 27

CARSON 21 3

RYNE 16 6

SPIKE 10

The bottom line is we are not seeing enough 1 on 1 post match ups. It is easier for Biggie against a PF and for Vincent against a SF. Vincent had a couple of opportunities vs Michigan, but they were against a PF not a SF. In the tournament we are going to be seeing bigger teams. In the first half, Wilson made two nice spin moves against Haas and hit two outside threes. In the second half, he missed outside against Haas and on a spin move Biggie moved down to foil it, yet Haas sat too much. If someone gets hot, take him out, but when he cools off Haas can exploit him, which he was doing and doing well. The playoffs suit Haas better.

I hope the coaches make note of this!

You can't put a number on it before hand. Unfortunately, I think that's what CMP does. All I ask is that the coach watches the game and see who's performing and base the minutes off that. I think it's very telling that the post game media table had Haas and CE. They played the best and everyone knew it except for the one person that needed to.

The minutes are suggestions. My main point is to give Haas more minutes and give more minutes to Vincent at SF. ie Vincent would have done well posting Irvin instead of Wilson. I also don't disagree with pulling Haas in 1st half when Wilson got hot; BUT Haas should have played much more in 2nd half, when Biggie et al knew to help on Wilson's spin moves and Wilson got cold shooting 3's. ie Wilson also missed wide open 3's today.

I think Painter knows how many minutes he should play each player.
Agree....... Does really well.....Unless your name is Haas and you are scoring every time you get the ball.....then it seems Painter only can focus on Haas defensive liability....... and out he goes....just my opinion.

CMP has stated publicly that he will not play CS, VE and Haas together. Which means VE will not play the 3.

Why? They need to be together against the bigger teams in the tournament. All 3 post well. If double posts of CS and IH, then VE is sitting at the 3 pt line for pass out if double team and is ready to swoop in for an O board. If teams like Michigan have two big men, then it is best if VE posts up a SF. Put CS at the 3 pt line ready to swoop.

If you've been watching, they haven't played together all year. I don't disagree with you. I think most of us have been asking why all year.

Some but not all of it has to do with depth and the liability of having all of our "post" options out there at once. Makes it easier for us to pick up our 15 post fouls to give at once.

Yes, but we are averaging 7 fouls per game. Plus there are usually less post fouls called in the Tournament. Media Expert is suggesting they play together for 7 minutes a game. We cut back if fouls are a problem, but INCREASE if fouls are not a problem.

I mean, I don't think there's strong evidence of this. First off, do you realize that Painter is the guy who picks the post game media interviews? So you're saying he didn't realize it, but then he picked the 2 to do media? That makes no sense.

And if you go back and look at games through the season, you see a pretty obvious correlation between effectiveness and minutes played through the season.

Pretty sure the media picks the players for tournaments, at least it use to be that way.
