My Weekly CBB Top 25

This is from the 2023 NCAA selection website:

“Among the resources available to the committee are an extensive season-long evaluation of teams through watching games, conference monitoring calls and NABC regional advisory rankings; complete box scores and results, head-to-head results, results versus common opponents, imbalanced conference schedules and results, overall and non-conference strength of schedule, the quality of wins and losses, road record, player and coach availability and various computer metrics.”

So yes SOS is used and it’s your opinion that it’s a crap argument. Seems to me it would be very useful for say 2 similar teams from different conferences vying for say a top 4 seed with the S curve. One of many factors yes but it’s clearly important.
I'm not the committee now am I?

My Weekly CBB Top 25

"I'm not someone who cares so much about SOS."

so, in your mind, if Purdue only played teams like North Dakota SW, or Saint George U, or any other community college, and Purdue beats each team by 80+, they are the best in the nation.

"I don't care about kenpom. I give the ratings zero thought when I'm ranking teams."

sorry. i give zero thought to your rankings.

your "thought" process and reasoning and "cares" show you have 2 brain cells.
...and they are fighting each other for 3rd place.
Cool story bro. Yea if Purdue was out here bearing those teams by 80+, yea I'd have them #1 by now probably. That'd be stupidly impressive to be 10-0 and a winning margin of 80.

Braden Just Good

As of now, the situation is better than two years ago, but not as good as another ball handler like Lance. I don’t think PSU causes the problems had Lance been on the court with Braden. Actually, I wouldn’t mind Purdue playing PSU again, but it is a shortage of another player with some ball handling and quickness that is missing. The freshmen will be fine but it was an away game and they are freshmen with a more complex offense than many teams employ.

Perhaps those freshmen will be ready the next game a coach applies pressure as with a team built to do so. You have to have that 2&3 man able to handle pressure when facing a team built for pressure and getting a slower whistle. I’m guessing Auburn is but another early season test and hopefully Giccari, CJ and Myles grow in that area and suspect the freshmen guards are in the lead to get there
We need those guys to grow up quick because Auburn is going to bring the defense and athleticism and quickness and can bury us very quick. They will press us as long as they need to and won’t stop.

Need Braden to be at his very best along with TKR guarding Broome. Gonna be tough but (hopefully) a fun one to watch.

Braden Just Good

Maryland did not commit to taking Smith out of the game as PSU and Marquette did. I'm guessing their coach didn't feel they had the personnel to do that. The true measure of Smith will be how does he do in games going forward where teams do commit to that strategy. I don't think I've seen anyone dumping on Smith in any of these threads, at least not any of the regular posters. I feel it's more a matter of some of us saying an AA PG has to do it when the other team is focused on taking him out. It has proven effective by teams that have tried it this season. Let's see what he does going forward. Thankfully, not every team is structured to implement that strategy. But we will face some teams coming up very soon that will.

Fire Matt Painter Petition...

That's nice. You don't have to defend yourself, but you did.

Matt builds a program. He doesn't rent a team. That's my point. He doesn't need to 'embrace the NIL/transfer portal. One or two players to fill a need is fine, but to say he won't have success unless he does what YOU want him to do, is just foolish, IMO.

We were actually friends with David and got to meet players behind the scenes because he took us to games.

But actually, I was looking for all the posts to fire CMP back in 2013-2014 and stumbled upon yours. I agree with you, Lance was a perfect addition to the team.
Still early, wouldn’t it put it past Paint to adjust and hit the portal for 3+ guys in the future.

Fire Matt Painter Petition...

WTF are you talking about??

1. I posted that on March 23 2023
2. CMP signed Lance Jones out of the portal on April 9th 2023

So you tell me, did he embrace the NIL/portal or not? Without Lance Jones we don't go to the FF period. No idea what your point was of bringing up a post that far back, but even then, you might have taken the 1 minute it took to look up the date of the post and when we signed Jones. So, our ceiling was raised by signing Jones, just like I had suggested.

Whether CMP can be effective long term not going into the portal will be seen as we go. My guess is this year was an unusual one where he didn't sign any transfers. I bet he follows the 2023 model more often than not. Sign a transfer or 2 and try to stay as old as possible.

Not that I should have to defend myself after all the years I've been on here, but for the record I've been a CMP supporter all along. He's not perfect, but I've never called for anyone else to be our coach.

Daniel Penny, American Hero.

The right verdict was delivered. Not guilty.
Lefty libs are upset.....again.
I would have lost all hope in the judicial system had he been convicted. He should never been brought to trial in the first place.
