Way behind on this thread, but what are the chances against a dominant big we do what other teams did to us last year and throw Berg/Burgess in there to Hack the other teams big every time they get the ball in the low post? Thats 10 fouls we can give that has very little impact on our normal game plan to close out the game.
Giving other teams multiple trips to the FREE throw line for 1 and 1's and more importantly, 2 shot fouls after 10 is a BIG impact to any teams normal game.
Hack a Shaq "worked" because Shaq couldn't shoot free throws very well.
So maybe if getting dominated by a very good big who can't shoot free throws.

Ok, now that it's done, who's hearing what about a hire?

What’s amazing to me is that I’ve seen you clowns post here in exactly two seasons. This year and 2020. Every other year you hide on your board and ban anyone from Purdue. Yet we are never the cowards you are as far as you posting here.

So bask in the season you earned.

However, next time you go 5-7 and lose the bucket game, come back for just as detailed a discussion
  • You are amazed? Sweet.
  • I have "hidden?" Nope.
  • I ban people from message boards? Alllrighty then.
  • Basking in the season? Yup
  • Next time IU goes 5-7 come back? I visited last year when IU football was unimaginably bad. BTW... 5-7 would be an above-average year for IU football historically lol. Not seeing that anytime soon - tons of key pieces coming back from the current team but you never know.
Snark aside; this off-topic sadness started when I posted in this thread that the way for Purdue to transform quickly would be to bring in a successful current head coach that could flip the roster, and that a retread like Chryst would be a bad choice in the current environment. Lots of legit Purdue posters 'liked' the post. Then Riveting trolled the entire board (and me) with the 'clown pants' and 'gonna be so sad in three weeks' crap. Off-topic and nasty we go!

So I'll bow out; didn't want the thread to devolve but I contributed to that by taking the bait from a poster that almost never talks substance.

You are a sane, smart, solid, on-topic poster BC - apologies for taking bait and contributing to the derailment. Good luck on the coaching search - still think you guys are far better off with a current 'lesser name' than a bigger name retread or a coordinator.

PS: Merry Xmas, etc. to y'all!

Hell to pay

Most of the hatred for Jews comes from the left. Have you not been paying attention? Your side has a number of elected officials (mostly in the Squad) who are avowed anti-semites and support the destruction of Israel.

You better go see a doctor about your TDS.....you're approaching Bob's level, which is unhealthy.
Nope. You are wrong as usual. Hatred for the Jews transcend all race, cultures, political affiliation etc. The dems absolutely do not have a monopoly of hating the Jews. There are more hatred for the Jews from these right wing white supremacy groups that vote republican and support Chump. Remember Charlottesville where these jackasses were walking around with tiki torches chanting "Jews will not replace us.". Oh I forgot, they are good people.

Since Michigan congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib is Palestinian, she most likely hates Israel. However, because the rest of the so-called squad doesn't like the policies of Israel doesn't mean that they are anti-semitic. Arabs including Palestinians like Cong. Rashida Tlaib are semites also by the way.

I'm saying Cox is scoring 4ppg. Painter isn't thinking, "I really need that scoring off the bench." As of now, Cox is just giving guys a breather. Cox did score 11 against Bama and 12 against Yale in back to back games.. but he's also scored 0 in 4. And outside of Bama and Yale has scored 7 points(4 in one and 3 another). I think Painter is just hoping Cox and Harris will give good enough minutes while Smith, Loyer and/or Colvin are out that it doesn't hurt the team. Play your role and play smart. Take what's given and don't force anything.
agree. Paint has to tell these guys that they don't have to score to get PT. Go in, play hard D, make good decisions, shoot when open or when feeling it.
These guys have both shown the ability to score, they just need to see a few go down again.
Reminds me a lot of Colvin last year who seems like he needed to jack up a few shots within a minute of getting in.

Timing of coaching change

your timeline sounds as good as anything I've seen. It seems like things started to move after the NW loss based on Walters interview with Tom on On3. with 20/20 hindsight, if Purdue won the OT games against IL & NW, we'd probably see Walters back. It sounds like he had a plan to really overhaul the staff. If Odom ends up at WVU, I'd bet Walters is his DC.
say Walters gets that job or some other, does anyone if his new salary would offset some of the buyout ?

Purdue falls to South Carolina 99-51

I saw boilerpride08 mention year 4 for CKG. Yes technically it is year 4, but i kind of look at it as year 2, maybe 2.5. Does anyone else view it that way?

My reason being, she wasn't even supposed to be the coach that first year, and her 2nd year was still with a bunch of players Versyp recruited and coached(and obviously they weren't winning before CKG got here, so how good were these players..). Her first actual recruiting class was thrown together quickly(23' class).

So last year for me was sorta the first real year with Gearlds. First big recruiting class, recruits she spent plenty of time evaluating and forming relationships with. First year with Komara and Stephen's as her own hand picked assistants.

That's probably why I'm more forgiving and patient with where we are right now.

That makes it worse actually - her two best seasons were her first two. Those gave me hope. Last season was a major disappointment and there's no signs this season will be any better. And those are with the majority of her players she recruited - both out of high school and in the transfer portal.

Tyson Helton……..

I recall Tiller got a lot of players from Texas.
Tiller got a lot of guys from TX and FL. The other thing he did was find speed and then converted that speed into positions of need.
He got several guys to the NFL who came out of high school playing one position but then converted to something else at Purdue and succeeded.
Speed kills and if you watched Purdue, especially at positions like LB or RB, we lacked it, big time.

Throw some names for coaches next year….

Exactly. I like coaches who have connections in FL/TX. I can remember when Purdue had a lot of success with 3-stars from the “football belt”.
I remember the old saying that a 3-star recruit from Florida is equal to a 4-star recruit from Indiana.
🚂
I'll take guys at Purdue all day long who are just a shy below being recruited by FL, FSU, UM, TX, TAM, etc. or those teams liked them but didn't have a spot.

Lots of outstanding, intelligent, knowledgeable Purdue fans on this forum.

You’re here too.

Recruiting battles = bidding wars. It’s more about who can maximize the players we can afford than who is the best “recruiter”.
It's also about who can help get a guy to the next level. Not a lot of that going on at Montana or in the Dakotas. Those may be winning programs with strong traditions, etc, but they're not in the same game as a P5 program from any aspect.

Purdue’s winningest coaches had Purdue experience

After thinking this over some more, I am leaning towards Spack as an acceptable “bridge” option.

We can get him for a reasonable amount, and then he can transition into our GM and hire our next coach in a few years. (Makes sense to have a Purdue Football guy hire the Purdue Football guy.)

I’ll pass on Sumlin as it seems he’s still battling some issues. Maybe as Spacks OC.
No way.
First, money doesn't matter. So, how much we decide to pay a coach is irrelevant.
Second. Spack has been in coaching for a long, long time and has never been poached by a big program. That should tell you something.
Third: His name and background are not going to excite anybody.
