Recruiting battles = bidding wars. I'll take guys at Purdue all day long who are just a shy below being recruited by FL, FSU, UM, TX, TAM, etc. or those teams liked them but didn't have a spot.Exactly. I like coaches who have connections in FL/TX. I can remember when Purdue had a lot of success with 3-stars from the “football belt”.
I remember the old saying that a 3-star recruit from Florida is equal to a 4-star recruit from Indiana.

FCS to BIG is a huge jump. Not impossible, but probably needs to prove it at a FBS school before a job like Purdue. Rumored to be in the running for the Fresno State job.

It's not, but 13 years versus 4 as HC is notable. Agree that we need a "do more with less" guy. I'd value someone who has built up a program, sustained it, and develops players instead of trying to outbid others constantly. If Purdue is at the low end of the BIG in NIL, and it's going to stay there, then get a coach that values toughness, discipline and can actually identify talent that fits their system. I like Vigen and Monken for this reason.
