Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

Yep. We were oversigned and needed to do something if Catchings didn't bail.
All they needed to do was ask Waddell to go to walk on status and cover the difference in NIL. MP and staff could have added a transfer had they wanted to. They opted to roll with the five freshmen and banking on development of Cam and Myles, in part because part of the goal of this year’s squad is development.

As many have stated, next year is all in. A lot of season left to go and the needs for next year might look significantly different in March than they do today, but I agree with the general consensus that MP and staff need to 1) keep their key guys for next season and 2) go to the portal to get any piece or pieces needed to compete for a NC.

UCLA at Purdue

No silver lining here to ease the hurt. Discouraging to say the least. Purdue has been climbing a mountain since last year. Their last lead was 2 to nothing Dec 29th at Iowa. We know how long that lasted. Three games trailing wire to wire. No question, being a Purdue fan is challenging. Even te volleyball stars are abandoning the ship. Hope men's bb is able to hold on to their best players, but with the portal and all the money being thrown around who knows what to expect. I thought that after playing that moster from LA these girls wouldn't be scared of anything, but they looked hopeless out there from the getgo. Hope the team hasn't lost the fight in them

IU did not deserve to be in CFP. Great article by USA Today

Nice bump! 👆 Here's the reality; when someone posts off-topic insults I have responded to get this Indiana Football thread back on topic!

The topic is - did Indiana's 11-1 regular season merit inclusion in the College Football Playoffs?

Here's the latest update as a way of re-directing the thread from off-topic bumps back to its on-topic substance: After last night, I can factually state that IU's 11-1 regular season was ended with a ten point loss to a Notre Dame team that will be playing for the national championship. In fact, if OSU beats Texas, IU's only two losses will be to the two teams in the national championship game!
You are off topic. Let’s keep analyzing IU Football’s season please.

They only lost two; both on the road and to the two teams in this year’s National Championship game.

They beat both teams from last year’s National Championship game.

That is completely CFP worthy.
They got SMOKED by them.
None of those are metrics for the worthiness of CFP lol.

Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

It wasn’t me! Quit with the name calling, bullying and misinformation and lies! Just ask Duane!

Show me one post I authored this year stating that Painter should have recruited someone this year from the portal. And while you’re at it, name the player from the portal that I suggested painter recruit.

And after that, I demand an apology. And get off my back!
What misinformation/lies did I tell wole? All I did was quote you over and over. Are you saying you lie and spread misinformation?

Octeus and Jones were good additions. Carter was meh. Jenkins was meh+. But that was pretty portal and open transfer rules for the most part. The talent level then was thinner. It's a lot easier to get a talented player to transfer now. I don't believe that every last one of them can't possibly fit here or help this team. We have great younger players but none of them are SO amazing that we can't possibly add in another player

The next two seasons are going to be critical. Next year three senior starters with a real chance at a run with just a little additional help. The year after, we lose three senior starters and might need a bridge player while the remaining players level up. It's a thin line between continual top 10 excellence and not, so yeah I think just relying on recruits and nothing else in the age of NIL is unnecessarily walking a tight rope.
I think the hard thing to accept is the fact that loyalty isn’t there anymore because of the NIL and transfer rules. And it’s ok. I for one have/had a hard time with that. If you want to win NOW it seems the best way to do it, is to bring i portal guys that can play. I was against it at first, but I’m with you now. If we can get guys who are better than players we have now, do it. I don’t think it’s paints way, but I think it’s potentially the best strategy for next year, unless obviously the freshman are actually really good.

Purdue at Rutgers: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

One in particular where he was attempting to guard someone on the high post and the Rutger player drove by him for a clean and easy layup. I know you love him, I know you think he's going to be one of the best ever in black and gold, but I don't see anything in his demeanor that allows me to think he's even close to playing any part of the game well.

We'll just have to agree to disagree until when he finally earns his keep.

And again, I can only hope that he proves me wrong but right now Cox, Burgess, Heide, and Harris are better and more productive. Colvin is shooting 41% overall, 31% from 3, and 61% from the free throw line. He has more turnovers than assists. The only positive stat is that he's averaging one steal per game, and he's gotten some boards that's helped.

Sorry, but I just don't share your enthusiasm for the young man, and he's had a lot of chances to prove us wrong. I'd take Cox or Harris in the lineup all day over him.
The fact you only have one example shows how much you don’t like him. And then to suggest berg and Waddell get mins over him just shows you have no idea what you’re talking about.

You have hated him from day 1. He could average 50 and you wouldn’t like him cuz he doesn’t shoot 100% from the field.

I have no idea why you hate him so much. Not sure if he dunked on your kid in HS, took playing mins from him, stole his girl or just took his lunch money, but at least you’re consistent in your hate but it’s a tad ridiculous.

I don’t think he could be the best to ever do it, but I do see potential there. However, what you and others don’t seem to get is that he’s the 4th-5th option when he’s on the floor and no plays are run for him. Paint doesnt draw plays up for them to get the ball to score. It seems he is also told not to drive or look to be aggressive, as he has been quite timid to do those things. Him and Heide just look to pass to the big 3. His shot is off right now—in a slump, but he was off to quite the start to begin the year.

All good though.

update on portal

Highly disagree. We had enough talent to win 7-8 in 2023 and 4-6 in 2024. Yes…we don’t have as much as the blue bloods but we never have and never will.

That was 1000% my issue with Walters. Running a “pro” scheme with Purdue players.
Have you seen the Lindsey kid from Auburn?
He runs really well but his size and frame make him look like he is going to grow into a tackle. 6' 3" 295
Your thoughts?

Sterling had a great game against IU and so he made his mark 😊

UCLA at Purdue

Our women's team is horrible. Down thirty to a team that's 1-3 in the big ten. Gearlds ain't it. Similar to our football team, they don't do anything particularly well.
To be fair thats a bit disingenuous. MICHs three losses were to #1 #4 #9.

I can stomach getting pummeled against top 10 teams. But the lack of an competition against the bottom of the T25 is excruciating.

I dont know what else to expect this year. Like I said before this is a poorly put together roster.

He has had transfers the last few teams and so I have no reason to think he rejects the portal. We just know that is not his favorite mode of operation. The transfers have been guards. Jon Octeus (sp?), Sterling Carter, David Jenkins and Lance.

"Finding those guys in the portal that have those winning qualities."

The original post re:painter's discussion of portal players is why I always shake my head and smirk when I see tge all-knowing posts saying "Painter should have filled this need or that" from the portal. More times than not portal additions turn out to be meh or disrupt the makeup of what you already have. Few coaches are going to make living by restocking each year from the portal and molding it into a winning team.
Except no one here said that. Some folks just love to troll posters, and that's fine, but everyone knew we had no room this year so no one said Painter should have done anything this season. We not only had no room, we were over signed until the Spring.

People talked about two things: hypotheticals about IF we had room who might be helpful from the portal and the need for additions next year.

No one said restocking, folks said the same thing we said before Jones got here, we needed a little help, lo and behold, Painter saw it too and went out and got a transfer and he was key to use making the championship game.

Anything else is hyperbolic straw man creation. No one said replace the whole team and no one attacked Painter at least on here for not doing something he literally couldn't have done even if he wanted to this season. And no one said just take anyone. Everyone agrees you need the right fit not just pure talent. I don't know what some random Twitter person might have said, but I mean Twitter is a cesspool so who cares?

Now, does he need to add someone next season? Yeah, if he wants a final four team. For his sarcasm I'm pretty sure if another Jones type player comes along Painter isn't going to say no then either.

Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

Jones was a transfer last year, does Painter think he didn't help? I don't think so. If he'd been in the portal would Painter have not taken him? I don't think so.

Like you said, there is was no space so no, no one here was calling for a portal player. People here DO think Painter should not absolutely reject the portal as option.
