Wow, Stephen Smith borrows a thought from Aaron Neville to tell it like it is

@Riveting since I didn't want you to miss this. In the midst of more truths coming out with many more yet to happen, this little gem is worth the couple of minutes listen. Still, as the mirage created by the dems fades, we are reminded there is a lot of damage to fix and some minds needing therapy. With the Christmas season upon us, now is the time to remember some unfortunate posters on the wrong side of history (which was known by many to be known by all) and hope their absence is not indicative of a lingering trauma.

Did you read the report or did you just believe what you're told.......by Stephen A no less!!!!! Aren't you the guy constantly raving about libs believing what the media tells them?

Border wall auction

I get that. However, she was being pushed if I remember correctly and a mixed signal had already been sent in other areas of actually inviting them in. If I recall correctly, you could tell she wasn't a threat, but behind those may have been construed as such...but it never got that far as an unarmed women was killed. It certainly didn't have to get where it was and the Jan actors should have been more honest with the video that was hidden from the public. This administration has hidden other things from the public. It is and was the most destructive administration to this country in my lifetime and perhaps teh history of the country and I don't think we have seen the worse yet...
Your recall stinks. She wasn't being pushed, she was trying to climb through the window.

Does it look like people were being "invited in"? These people trying to break down the doors weren't a threat?

Why doesn't she share any of the blame here?

Why don't you at least try to give the impression of being remotely objective?

Does CMP go after another .......

I think going into the portal is situational for us.

1. 4/5 Hybrid big - need someone proven who can push Jacobsen and Burgess in practice and be reliable.
2. 1/2 Combo guard - we need a guy who can release pressure and get a bucket like Lance did.

Both need to be guys with 1 year eligibility left - IMO. They carry the lowest amount of risk to disrupt our lineup and cohesion on the team.

For 2 - I honestly think Painter has to find more options to get Cox and Smith playing together. Cox has shown more ability to score and make things happen on both sides of the ball. If you can build him up - he can be that guy next year.

How long can Boiler Basketball avoid being portaled?

Few things.

1. I don't think we want to know what happens behind the scenes in the murky waters of NIL and agents. The situation is basically worse than professional sports because they have standards and aren't allowed to contact until someone is a free agent.

2. We will probably see someone jump.... I am not sure who and won't speculate. It is just a reality, the world has changed and we will see it. It has been said that Gonzaga came hard after Braden and I am sure he will have people banging down his door with massive amounts of money.....

Purdue Volleyball Conspiracy

So did Purdue play horrible against Louisville because these top players knew they were going to the transfer portal already? I look how non-existent they were in this match along with showing little emotion. Raven, a senior seemed like the only star who was really into it. How do you not get up for this match? Our coach even seemed shocked and said they were not ready to play in the interview. Wandering minds I guess. This whole thing is strange where these 3 players make the announcement right at the same time.
Don't know about the word conspiracy but I have to think those gals just all of a sudden didn't decide after that match. Things like that had to be in the thought process well before that and they had a clue what they were going to do. Also wonder if or what other schools had already contacted them. I still wonder if it was just $$$$.

I mean I have UConn at 20th. Who is the highest ranked 3 loss team. Gonzaga right behind them. Which I feel is pretty fair. And this early in the season, it is much easier to make what seem like drastic changes. Unlike the AP though, I am not sold on Baylor or Houston. Baylor also has 3 losses. A 38 point loss to Gonzaga, a 15 point loss to Tennessee and 4 point loss to UConn. They do have a couple nice wins over Arkansas and St. Johns. So if they keep winning, they'll rise back up. As for Houston, also 3 losses to Auburn, Alabama and SDSU. But their wins are Jackson State, Louisiana, Hofstra, Notre Dame, Butler and Troy. They have one Q2 win which was ND who is 100th in the NET and Butler(Q3) who is 76th. Me personally, I don't understand the love they get from the voters or the rating systems. But it is what it is. It is all just my opinion, just like it is for AP Voters and Coach voters. I use my eyeballs, who they have played, beaten, lost to, win/loss margin, what happens to teams around and I'll use NET more than Kenpom but neither are going to be the end all, be all.
Zero logical consistency from week to week.

When will something be done to fix the portal?

The CFP should see great numbers this year. There will actually be more viewers, because the average fan will care more about the CFP with a total of 12 teams now. We are getting closer to a "March Madness" in football. With all of the legalized gambling now, it will make more people care about those games too.

As far as the non CFP bowls, the average fan could care less about those games. The best players on those teams will all be skipping those games (Colorado might be the only exception), so only fans of the schools will care, even some of them won't even care.

I am sure several bowls will go away when the CFP expands in the future.

First of all, Stephen A. Smith although not a black grifter will at times display rhetoric depending on which way the wind blows.

The FBI informants being at Jan 6 is old news. We discussed that here many times. What I see many folks doing is conflating FBI informants with actual FBI undercover agents. FBI informants like the ones involved in Jan 6 as well as on the streets of Chicago helping the FBI bust drug dealers are regular folks not employed by the FBI. The bottom line is that most of these FBI informants are shady characters on the ground helping the FBI in hopes of getting a reduced sentence or even some cash to help their cause. It's always been well documented that the leader of the Proud Boys that was present and involved in the Jan 6 mayhem was an FBI informant. Again, not an FBI agent.

So, if y'all are hoping that this will somehow lessen the sting or exonerate of the rest of 2,000 crazy MAGA Flavor Aiders jacking up the Capitol, you are mistaken. These FBI informants are crazy MAGA Flavor Aiders like the rest of them.

Absolutely nothing has changed. There were still 2000 crazy MAGA Flavor Aiders trying to stop VP Mike Pence from certifying the 2020 election.

This is the most logically consistent version that you've put out this year. I don't understand Gonzaga dropping 13 slots after losing to UConn, but since you don't believe in KenPom maybe you think UConn is a bad team?

Didn’t Painter also give a scholarship to a legacy player knowing he would never start? Wadell perhaps? Don’t tell people Painter only gives scholarships to players who are projected starters. Wadell will always ride the bench as a role player. Successful teams also need players to ride the bench.

At Kentucky, in the past, they would give 1-2 players a scholarship to help keep their overall GPA over the minimum team required standard. With all of their one and dones, they needed someone who actually went to class.

Many times a legacy player will receive a scholarship over a more deserving player.
What? Painter said Waddell as a redshirt freshman could start until he got injured. Waddell could start on some big ten teams. He’s also a team leader and bleeds gold and black.

How long can Boiler Basketball avoid being portaled?

By using NIL money for retention, Painter is prioritizing Smith and his teammates. I like the approach. Now how Purdue competes in overall NIL dollars? That I don’t really know. It seems to be middle of the road for a power conference school, but I am not really sure. I would like to see the basketball program get an overweighted share given its success and what it means to the university.

Agree retention is priority #1, and fending off the poachers for our big 3 is paramount. Yes, Braden will be expensive. Still, I can't imagine any coaching staff that doesn't utilize portal improvement with space available.

Overall in today's college landscape you target 4-6 guys with most of the available dollars. The rest of the team are recruits you are developing.....those might take some cash, but nothing like the top guys. Here a few guys is what it's all about. And next year this team needs another "guy". I expect the portal will attempted to be used to add him.

Rice did look good against Nebraska
The problem with IU, their trying to make him into a PG, he's closer to a 2, so he has struggled in most games but a few, even with a soft schedule. Carlyle is a bust, right now Harris and Cox are better than him! Guards are still average, front line is big but slow afoot on defense, still not a great rebounding team(like Purdue), and a coach who wants to hide his coaching ability by trying to beat the other team down the floor! They are an overpaid bunch of players because IU wants a quick fix back to the days of Knight!

How long can Boiler Basketball avoid being portaled?

How in the world would Gonzaga have better nil than us?
Pretty easy, they basically just worry about men's basketball. Football teams are huge and really spread that dollar amount out, then you add Volleyball and all the other sports it can really get diluted quickly depending on how many pots you are trying to fill.

My Cure (such as it is) for the NIL and Rampant Transfers

I think a multi-year player contract is inevitable. I think a 3-4 year contract would work best, but provide some situations where a player can transfer (i.e. head coach left, graduating, but not going in NFL etc). Have a progress towards degree requirement. These organizations are in the higher education business after all. Contracts could lead to other issues. will college sports see trades and trade deadlines?

The revenue sharing is an agreed amount so that is a start. I think NIL collectives should have a cap to it per university, sport, player. A cap will level the field, but give each team the flexibility how to allocate the monies.

Place severe penalties for tampering on the university and include the agents. (agents could be a whole separate topic) Tampering could be hard to prove, but it's happening.
