Purdue Ladies played basketball last night?

I never thought that about Smith, her offer sheet wasn't very impressive. Not sure where all her hype ever came from.

To each their own, you think the staff won't develop these players, I want to wait and see them play their freshman and sophomore years. No point in debating.

Smith was ranked 42nd in her class, the highest of any player on the roster currently I believe. She is a combo guard with good size and good to great athleticism. Why wouldn't she be expected to be good in college? I also believe she was Ms Basketball her senior year. And she is not as good this year as she was as a wet behind the ears freshman. Swanson was better last year. Ellis was better as a junior than senior, same with Terry. Madison was her best as a sophomore. Just tell me who you believe best exemplifies this staff's ability to develop players in the last 3 full seasons. Until I see ANY player get better under Gearlds tutelage, I will no longer count on it happening.

Purdue Volleyball Conspiracy

Hudson is officially gone - has posted a nice farewell message thanking the fans etc. A class act for someone who has been here a 3 years. On the other hand - Chloe is gone as well but she has been completely mum about it. No posts - nothing. She has removed PurdueVB from her IG handle. So that's it for her. Pretty disappointing for a home town kid to not even do a farewell post. I would assume PSU is in play for her considering she has was previously committed there before their coach retired. Their new coach is proving her worth and has them in the Final 4 - so I wouldn't be surprised to see her go there.

Here's my assumption - the first to enter the portal was Chloe, for whatever reason, but she has been doing social media ADs nonstop since she arrived here so I assume NIL is a big factor for her - and then Eva - with only one year left of eligibility figured her only chance of making the F4 with Purdue was up in smoke without her here - decided to enter the portal as well. - Just my assumptions as someone completely non affiliated with the program.
A number of posters on the other board are suggesting that EH was not a good teammate. I have no idea what the true story is. Personally, unless it is a graduate student transfer, I prefer no farewell message because it just seems to be disingenuous to me.

How long can Boiler Basketball avoid being portaled?

Because every season or two Painter and Purdue send an unheralded player to the league whether they stick or not, most get a ton of money and a chance they wouldn't have had almost anywhere else. Going backwards over the past decade you have:

Edey - HS rank 416, Drafted - 9, 2024
Ivey - HS rank 89 Drafted - 5, 2022
C. Edwards - HS rank 302, Drafted - 33, 2019
V. Edwards - HS rank 157, Drafted - 52, 2018
Swanigan - HS rank 33, Drafted - 26, 2017
Hammons - HS rank 74, Drafted - 46, 2016

You go back to his early years he had 4 more over 8 years, so again about every year to two years he gets someone in the league that absolutely shouldn't be outside of Swanigan. If you look at the above a trend that is pretty easy to see is that the draft position has gotten steadily better (as has our team). The pitch is Mr. Talented kid who isn't quite destined for the lottery yet, come to Purdue and we can get you there. There are better NBA feeder schools, but for that second tier of talent Purdue is a pretty great place to get the nod.
Well, I was going to respond with the general terms of having players not considered to have a shot at the NBA before college and then those players getting a shot. So for those that were not graced with the athletic ability and destined for the NBA if they keep a good head, many previously not considered candidates for the NBA were given some consideration after Purdue. You did great and glad I read it before typing more, but I'm right there with you.

Matt is like the teacher who has a class with 110/115 cognitive index, where some other teachers are filled with 130 scores and they take a criterion type test and Matt's students show the greatest student gain (TVAAS ;) ) , but the other teachers students scored higher, but the student gains were much smaller during each teacher's duration with their respective class.

It's like 5 guys, right? Thieneman, Tibbs, Klare, Heldt, Brevard? I might be missing one so don't quibble with my number. If we really had a lot of talent, there would be 20 guys going to good programs right now.

And I don't even think Heldt is that good. I think we annointed him because we're the Den of Defensive Ends and we thought anyone in place on the left DE would be like Phillips or Kerrigan or Karlaftis. He's not.

There's 2 things: talent and coaching. I for one think we were far below standards in both, not just one or the other.
I posted something similar a week when some were sayin about our talent level, I said it's like 4 or 5 guys, were poorly coached

Are we getting UNLV's special teams coach?

247 lists Riley as the lead recruiter but its safe to say Henson had conversations with him during the process too. He was also offered by UNLV as a HS recruit (not sure about in the portal last year).

This also isn't a rumor or anything that I've heard anyone say/tweet. Just thought it was interesting there are some connections and he's clearly bouncing around to find a starting job. The only player he'd have to beat out at Purdue so far is...*checks notes*....Bennett Meredith
I’d imagine one of Browne/Davila come back as well.

Highly disagree. We had enough talent to win 7-8 in 2023 and 4-6 in 2024. Yes…we don’t have as much as the blue bloods but we never have and never will.

That was 1000% my issue with Walters. Running a “pro” scheme with Purdue players.

Wow... That's gonna really convince people... So 6 dudes, 7 with Landry in an almost 20 year span? Yea... Probably not what Painter is talking about to recruits. He might tell them if they work their butts off and produce they can go. But he isn't using it as a selling point by any means. And I don't see him being unrealistic and giving high hopes to dudes who think they are Jaden Ivey or Zach Edey when they aren't.

Considering the amount of CFP / highly-ranked programs that we’ve lost guys to, it just further emphasizes how inept Walter & Staff were. It could easily be a LONG time before we have as much talent on the roster as we had recently…
And what did that talent get is??
Would you rather have a good coach and solid players or an inexperienced coach that recruited more 4 stars than any other Purdue coach and won 5 games in two years.....

I might actually miss Coleman Hawkins

Nice win for Drake. It's unfortunate for them that Miami is a mess and K-state is meh, but a road win against a Big 12 team is no joke.
Even right now an away game against KState is Q2. A neutral court win over Miami is Q3. KStates NET will probably increase during Big 12 play. That ratings system is a mess.
