I think Bass made a bad play and CKG was done with her for the day, she wasn't providing much up until that point. Took alot of weak contested shots in the paint.
She definitely needs to be stronger with the ball sometimes.

That's one thing I love about McCarthy. Once she gets a grip on the ball not many people are going to take it from her.

Pairing McCarthy and Gordon at the 4 & 5 next year will hopefully put an end to Purdue getting pushed around like they did against Iowa.

A couple more observations. I haven't seen Alaina Harper on the bench the past few games. Maybe she's there and I'm visually challenged. Lol. Just thought it was interesting.

Also Reagan Bass sat for most of the second half. We were getting crushed down low and probably our most consistent post player so far is watching from the bench. Just curious as to the reason.
Yeah Harper's been missing since at least the Ind st game. I only noticed because Puryear went down with an ankle injury in that game and we'd be pretty thin at the 5. Harper wasn't in a recent team meal picture either, not sure what's going on.

Nice to see Puryear back though.

Nice seeing a Raiders win, and their tight end, Brock Bowers, set some NFL records.

Too bad Purdue's Broc Thopson with his two broken legs and that excellent Music City Bowl game against Tennessee never played another down in a game. You see what he did, and then you look at all of these other quitters, what can you say.
He did. Wasn’t impactful and obviously he was injured but he tried to go in 2022 and was too hurt to make it work.

He’s the kind of guy that would do the 2025 team some good

Big Ten

I agree with that. I just find it funny that literally every year fans say the Big Ten is “down.” It’s like, compared to what?!
That’s fair. I guess vs last year there doesn’t look to be two top ten teams, but who knows how it will shake out.

To your point, prior to last year it’s been since the ‘20/‘21 season since the conference was really strong at the top, with IA, IL, OSU and Michigan all finishing in the top ten that season.

And none make the final four…just like the Big 12, which was best conference last year.

Although, I’d be shocked if Auburn doesn’t make it. They better hope they don’t see Gonzaga before the F4 tho…
Saw where the Zags almost had a disaster at LAX. Taxying and only stop when an air traffic controller realized they were on a collision course with a Delta flight taking off.

innocent enough, but on a team that needs rebounding...sounds like he would need more minutes. No matter what someone would take things different than intended
That’s true. I think I would have taken it better if it seemed like he had any fire at all regarding getting better instead of only hearing about how he wants to be a doctor after school. We desperately need a fourth at least playable guy, so a little bittersweet to me

Heide and Colvin have not shown the ability to hunt and make shots beyond a few rim runs by Heide. They have been mostly catch and shoot players from three or above the rim. They have not shown they have the handles to get their own shot, especially against teams with good athletes. That’s why they are hesitant to hunt shots. Teams scout Purdue and run at Heide and Colvin, making the open threes not so open. Heide takes advantage of this once every few games and gets to the rim , but not consistently like Loyer.

50-32 Iowa at the half. 10 TO led to 14 Iowa points. Purdue early foul trouble. I have hopes things get better, but I hope the rest of the season doesn't turn into a football type situation. End of 3, Iowa 66-47. I think we had it cut to 8 at one point in the quarter. Final 84-63.
We got pounded in the paint and on the boards. 48-22 scoring and 42 -27 on the boards. Lana McCarthy getting called for two fouls in the first two minutes took away any physical presence down low. She came back in the 2nd quarter only to get another one called quickly. Not saying if they were fouls or not but I just wish they would make the same calls on all players of both teams.

18 turnovers is still way too many but Iowa had 21 and won by 20.

Iowa just has a much easier time scoring than we do. More weapons.

Eager to see more of Jordyn Poole. I am a little concerned about her size....she's short.....I wonder how she is going to handle some of the larger guards in the conference.

Listened to Painters post game presser and was disappointed in what he said. He said he’s fine with running almost everything through Smith and TKR with some options for Fletcher. He actually said most teams do that and it’s OK because teams will struggle to stop all three. The problem I see with this is they’re forcing the offense even though teams are guarding effectively. The other issue is we can’t afford to have a team shutdown/neutralize even one of the big 3 because it’s been requiring big contributions from them all to win the games without struggling.
The disappointment for me comes from him not stating that when one or two or more of the big 3 are not scoring as normal or efficiently, that he sees the need to run stuff for someone else to make up the lacking contribution. Maybe that’s a given but it’d be good to hear and great to see!
We played Toledo yesterday and make no mistake, they are NOT a good team. Their D is ranked in the 300’s…there should not have been struggling by our Boilers to pull ahead and put them away.
I believe Colvin and Heide are hesitant to shoot or seek/hunt their shots because they don’t feel they are integral parts of the offense and are aware Painter wants the other 3 to provide the overwhelming balance of the scoring. I feel that way after hearing him speak multiple times, I’d assume they almost certainly have heard that message. Could relate to what some have pointed to as a lack of confidence by them.
All conjecture on my part and I’m aware Painter is a smart guy and experienced coach so hopefully my concerns are for naught.
Actually several teams have figured out how how to stop all three and at that point is gets pretty ugly with no plan B. We don't have good enough defense to hold teams in the 50s. I would like to see us ramp up the ball pressure when our offense it struggling. Maybe create a few turnovers and get some easy baskets (although we now seem to be struggling to even dunk).

He is back before it is official!

Did you READ the first two sentences of the link that I posted? This is the LA Times talking, not Trump:

"In recent days, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has touted her country’s largest-ever seizure of fentanyl and highlighted multiple crackdowns on migrants headed toward the United States.

"She was speaking to the press, but her most important audience is U.S. President-elect Donald Trump."
She was just elected in October! She also campaigned on taking a tougher approach to the cartels and drug trafficking than her predecessor. Not everything happens because of trump's threats.

Five of the top ten are SEC, also 8 of the top 20. Big Ten has one in the top 10 and 3 in the top 20, with Mich St and Purdue squeaking in at 18 and 20.

Really? You wouldn't pick something that you think you bring to the table? Can easily say something to the effect of "I think I'm a really good rebounder" or something to the same effect without necessarily bringing anyone down.

My Weekly CBB Top 25

So because a team loses to another, they should automatically be behind them? I mean if SDSU loses a game this week, which is possible as they play at Boise State, then they'll drop. Or if someone behind is just much more impressive. Like if Illinois were to win at Oregon for example.
Is that really what you took from that exchange?

You stated that you can’t include Gonzaga because they have four losses. Fine. I completely disagree but you can rank however you want. What I don’t understand is how you then include SDSU with three losses when Gonzaga is objectively better than SDSU by every measure in addition to beating them head to head.

Seems like a super tough question though, doesn’t it? Anything you say to prop yourself up would simultaneously put your teammates down. Number one rule there - don’t do that (and it sounds like he didn’t). Anything else is probably gonna come out awkwardly unless he’s thought about it before, I know I would have a hard time with a question like that if someone asked me on the spot.
