Agree with about every thing said, but... That team is tremendous. Best defense in the country. Tall, athletic quick guards, that close on shots and block or disrupt them. Ditto on wings. Plus a player of the year, do it all big man. Some teams have athletes who are not great basketball players. They have both. Poor Braden was just over matched, the large guys guarding him were quicker then him. Loyer tried his best with some success, but was held in check in the second half. Heide and Colvin shortcomings were exposed by a great defense. But, lets see how they do against good, but mortal teams before we throw them all under the bus.
I don't think they should be thrown under any buses but we are seeing a pattern now that either gets fixed via scheme or personnel or both.

Doing what we do right now has a hard cap.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

TJ, what do you see in the offensive sets tho? I just see Colvin and Heide not even looking to shoot or attack. Not even dribble with purpose to a spot or break their man down. They either get the ball and look for the next step in the offensive set, which is usually to Loyer or Smith OR they stand in the corner and watch TKR back down his man or Loyer or smith try to create something that’s not there.

I assume paint is trying to run stuff through the big 3, but Colvin and Heide are absolutely non existent at times. And vs teams that apply a lot of pressure, those 2 could be an X factor to break down that type of defense.
I’m on a phone and won’t type much which many will appreciate. Matt gives a LOT of freedom to his coaches and have no idea how much influence PJ has. That said, prior to Zach Purdue ran things for Dakota coming off pin downs and many coming off of off ball screens. Matt has a lot of sets that don’t involve high ball screens by the 5 as most his career did not involve such. Perhaps he needs to incorporate some of those as well? Are there times he just has a designated screener that slips, dives and pops when more in motion.

Bottom line is that Purdue needs counters against pressure as a team and traditionally that has been a weaker area of Matt’s IMO. You have to back off the pressure, especially if the refs are slow with the pea to counter. Second, might get by with one player not scoring, but not two. Need to get something out of Myles and cam on offense. I’m typing this while at father in law’s Christmas gathering. 😊

The pick and roll with Renn isn’t working. What happened to the motion offense we ran before Edey . Get those 2 guys involved, not just someone who sits in the corner. I think it’s the offense more than them , but do agree they both need to be aggressive and they’re not. If you’re gonna move Cox and Burgess to the starting lineup then bench Heide or Colvin but not both, and Loyer sits cause we would be awful small otherwise
Agreed. Need everyone involved on offense. Can’t run the edey offense with TKR, especially if he’s not hitting his FTs at a high clip. Just get guys open shots, don’t matter how. And attack the damn basket off the dribble.

Seems like short comings were exposed against less than the best team in the country ala penn st and texas am
Auburn is special if they can stay healthy. They can win it all. But yea, agree rid what you said about Penn state. On the flip side, I am glad paint challenges his guys with these type of games. We could be playing the chatanoogas and Miami of ohios and struggle with them and then be surprised when they play an actual team and get blown out. So there’s that.

I think we still make the tourney as a 5-7 seed and hopefully make a little S16 run

DEI was intended to give those minorities who ARE SMART ENOUGH AND GOOD ENOUGH to get jobs they were denied for decades. That was a REAL THING. Do you remember? Or are you gonna deny that it ever happened?

Now, while in some cases it has gone too far and needs to be reevaluated, it doesn't mean there aren't racist asswipes out there who are still denying qualified people positions based on their color, ethnicity, or religion.

You can take solace that when our institutions go to hell because of unqualified people who are focused on the wrong thing, DEI will be no more. I guess you can only blame the white people then.
That’s the thing that I have trying to convey. They are conditioned to believe that blacks and other minorities are not smart enough and good enough to be hired for the same positions as whites. But since in their minds, white women are smart enough and they say absolutely nothing about them benefitting from affirmative action/DEI more than any other minority.

CJ Cox ends up leading the team in scoring with 16 (3/5 from deep) 7/7 FT's.....wasn't in crunch time, but maybe it's a spark - he does need more minutes. Burgess 7/4 in mop-up duty.

Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, A & M going to have some battles - Ole Miss and Mississippi State can play as well. SEC is cashing in these days.
SEC never embraced the whole "student athlete" thing and in today's world they will thrive. Amazing Pearl is now a saint after his shenanigans at UT. It's a new world with pay to play and unlimited free agency.

Where do you come up with these non-truths?
White women benefitting from affirmative action more than anyone is real. Has been for decades. So how do you feel about that now?

Key to watching this years team.

So we lose games like this by low double digits then

Probably, unless the execution would improve accordingly.....

Auburn, Marquette, and Texas A & M are likely tournament teams, and I expect a couple of high seeds among them too.

I'd like to see Purdue play some solid games on the road - they have look rattled at times since the Penn State game. And, they are struggling on both ends right now.

Purdue and Indiana in football and basketball at one time or another have had
"easy" schedules which benefitted them. The fan base enjoyed the year and being in the CFP after the Tom Allen years. I would have been fine with going to a major bowl game. Anything would have been a plus for Indiana football.
Lol all IU fans do when Purdue b-ball wins big ten : league is def down this year!

IU football did not belong and that’s OK.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

I would draw up plays for the other dudes and let the big 3 get theirs in the flow of the game. We rely way too much on Braden creating.
Trey isn’t Zach and doesn’t create the same problems Zach did pick and roll to allow as many opportunities for Braden to find others. Purdue has to get more scoring out of Myles and Cam and not necessarily behind the arc

1. What was their SOS before playing OSU? Serious question. I think playing OSU saved them from having a very high/low SOS. But I could be wrong.

I'm not going to argue with you about if they should have been in the playoffs. But if you don't think how they and SMU played today won't affect the committee going forward, I think you're pretty naive. Same scenario next year and Alabama, South Carolina or others will be in there.

As I said, I think IU schedules exactly like a team in their position should. Make it as easy as you can to make a bowl every year. Don't challenge yourself early, just get 3 for sure wins and then hope for the best in conference. They had a very nice year and if I were an IU fan I would be thrilled. I think if you can take off your crimson glasses you would agree they were outclassed and didn't belong in that game. But if not, that's ok no big deal.

We are way too reliant on Braden making something happen. I liked the end where Paint ran stuff for the two freshmen. We need to do more of that for Heide and Colvin.
Hell, just run it for anyone to be able to go get their shot or a good, open shot. We don’t have a dominant scorer who can score every night (ideally TKR could, but he needs help).
