lol He did not go looking for Jones to fill the shoes of two players who didn't contribute a ton at the end. He went looking for Jones because he saw that he needed another player who could hit some shots and initiate some offense while playing great defense. Something neither of those guys did, and something that he knew he didn't have enough of on a team that needed that to make a run at a F4. If he had one more spot and BOTH of those guys were still here he'd have still gone after Jones.

Why do you think that the total is a fixed amount? I agree that it's not unlimited but as stated previously, Matt and the athletic department have enough connections with deep pockets that if they said 'we think we can add x,y,z for an incremental $2M and it will really help our FF chances', I'd be shocked if they couldn't raise additional funds.

Red states like FL and others have done the same but Holcomb never succumbed to that BS of getting rid of DEI programs in the state unless I missed something.

DEI is inherently racist. Why? Because it purports that you treat someone differently simply because of the color of their skin. It's hard to believe that the people back in the day, who fought for civil rights, for equal and fair treatment, would support DEI initiatives.

At the time, (losing to a 16 seed as a 1 seed and that being a disturbing trend of tourny failures for Painter), it seemed like a logical move. I'm super glad he wasn't and that we went to the FF last year.

You, sir, are full of crap. Racist this, racist that. I don't give a damn what color or sex a person is if they are the most qualified for the job, and continue to do it at that level after selection. In my many occupations over 50 years of employment I worked with and for both great and terrible people. Some of the least qualified were white. Most got to those positions because of a form of DEI called butt kissing and playing golf with the eight guys. I had male and female supervisors. Some were good. Some were bad. Good leaders are good leaders, and no amount of social engineering can change that. Much like the military or a sports team, good leaders produce more contented and productive employees. DEI only looks at race and sex without regard for ability and ambition. I don't care what sex or race you are. I want you to be productive and fulfilled in life. No amount of feel-good legislation can make that happen.

Sure there is a chance. Given the emergence of Cox, the stability of the 2nd best PG in the nation....the do everything, Smith and development of great D, anything is possible.

I think we will know more by the end of the conference season after we face that gauntlet.

We are definitely a team that can make the Sweet 16 without it being a surprise. After that, we will have to overcome a team or two that plays our worst matchup style and that definitely makes it tough.

But obviously we shall see.

All that said, I'm trying to stay grounded. Purdue still hasn't faced a team in the top half of the league. But that changes this weekend as Purdue gets into the heart of their B1G schedule. 9 of the next 10 opponents are currently at least .500 in B1G play. The only one below .500 is a dangerous Ohio State team. A lot can change, of course. Indiana appears to be at a crossroads. February/March road games are Iowa, Michigan, MSU, Indiana, and Illinois.

The true test is definitely the end of the schedule. They've beaten the teams they should in this stretch but except for yesterday have looked extremely good doing it.

So that helps with confidence which is pretty important and generating a rhythm. You are right though, harder games are coming. Still, if you are taking care of business against the lower half, it does increase your margin for error against the upper half.
