Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

Okay, let’s say it’s $4mil. Now how much of that do you think the big 3 are gobbling up? I would say >50%.
Why do you think that the total is a fixed amount? I agree that it's not unlimited but as stated previously, Matt and the athletic department have enough connections with deep pockets that if they said 'we think we can add x,y,z for an incremental $2M and it will really help our FF chances', I'd be shocked if they couldn't raise additional funds.

3. Painter sees a player that is a helpful addition to a team just this close to making a run, like last season.
4. Painter wants a depth piece. Like say next season when we will only have three bigs.
5. A unique player emerges that's near NBA or NBA talent that would instantly elevate the team and he thinks he would also be a cultural and team fit.
Yep. Painter went looking for a seasoned guard after 2 veterans, Newman and Jenkins, left.

lol He did not go looking for Jones to fill the shoes of two players who didn't contribute a ton at the end. He went looking for Jones because he saw that he needed another player who could hit some shots and initiate some offense while playing great defense. Something neither of those guys did, and something that he knew he didn't have enough of on a team that needed that to make a run at a F4. If he had one more spot and BOTH of those guys were still here he'd have still gone after Jones.

Perhaps they can but for this year, there is a set amount as it’s already been paid out. The problem is, as you add more players, the players who are already here are gonna want more money. How are you going to give a new guy a million is Loyer is only making $800,000 without making waves?

We know retention is Painters strategy so I really don’t see him dropping a bag to a new player or players without taking care of current guys first.

Jones relegated Morton to the bench so I agree that he was offered to upgrade a position that he felt wasn’t improving.

He also went looking for a seasoned guard after the 2021-2022 season because he knew that Hunter and IT wouldn't cut it and was hesitant to turn the backcourt over to two freshmen, Newman and Morton.

Of course, it's set for this year, that's not the argument. I don't think MP is going to throw around big money to bring in new players but if he did, I agree that you'd have to account for the need to 'top off' your existing core. I'm not saying what moves Matt can or should make, I'm just saying that it's unlikely to me that Matt wants to make a move next year and can't do it because he doesn't have the funds.

Even if Morton had been "improving," Jones was a better player than him, and offered something no one else on the team had like him, athleticism.

It's about the team. Folks are too focused on individual players. If a big man comes in that Painter thinks is the next Edey, do you think he will say, no, I'm not going to take him because all my players are improving?
