Fire Matt Painter Petition...

WTF are you talking about??

1. I posted that on March 23 2023
2. CMP signed Lance Jones out of the portal on April 9th 2023

So you tell me, did he embrace the NIL/portal or not? Without Lance Jones we don't go to the FF period. No idea what your point was of bringing up a post that far back, but even then, you might have taken the 1 minute it took to look up the date of the post and when we signed Jones. So, our ceiling was raised by signing Jones, just like I had suggested.

Whether CMP can be effective long term not going into the portal will be seen as we go. My guess is this year was an unusual one where he didn't sign any transfers. I bet he follows the 2023 model more often than not. Sign a transfer or 2 and try to stay as old as possible.

Not that I should have to defend myself after all the years I've been on here, but for the record I've been a CMP supporter all along. He's not perfect, but I've never called for anyone else to be our coach.

That's nice. You don't have to defend yourself, but you did.

Matt builds a program. He doesn't rent a team. That's my point. He doesn't need to 'embrace the NIL/transfer portal. One or two players to fill a need is fine, but to say he won't have success unless he does what YOU want him to do, is just foolish, IMO.

We were actually friends with David and got to meet players behind the scenes because he took us to games.

But actually, I was looking for all the posts to fire CMP back in 2013-2014 and stumbled upon yours. I agree with you, Lance was a perfect addition to the team.

Daniel Penny, American Hero.

The right verdict was delivered. Not guilty.
Lefty libs are upset.....again.
I would have lost all hope in the judicial system had he been convicted. He should never been brought to trial in the first place.

Missing Mason

I completely agree that we miss his toughness and leadership. Other guys are gonna have to step up and it’s clear that they are still figuring that out, which is not surprising.

I’m not sure that this team is playing with a ton of joy right now, hopefully they find their way.
Let's circle back to "playing with joy." I think here's where we miss Lance Jones. He always seemed to be smiling & having fun playing the game. Don't know whether that lifted his teammates, but it always did me.

This is from the 2023 NCAA selection website:

“Among the resources available to the committee are an extensive season-long evaluation of teams through watching games, conference monitoring calls and NABC regional advisory rankings; complete box scores and results, head-to-head results, results versus common opponents, imbalanced conference schedules and results, overall and non-conference strength of schedule, the quality of wins and losses, road record, player and coach availability and various computer metrics.”

So yes SOS is used and it’s your opinion that it’s a crap argument. Seems to me it would be very useful for say 2 similar teams from different conferences vying for say a top 4 seed with the S curve. One of many factors yes but it’s clearly important.
Don't feed the trolls ;)

Probably all sorts of lineups man. I don't know that Gillis starts. That's a lineup for sure. Another had Heide at the three with Smith and Loyer. Another has Smith, Colvin Heide and Gillis with TKR. Another has one of the frosh.

Gillis wouldn't have to start and play 20+ minutes to help us be better.
Not saying he had to start, but it proved to me what I thought. Thanks.

Berg

When TKR is our biggest player on the field we are at best an average rebounding team. I think it’s no secret a big part of last year’s formula for success was the sheer number of extra possessions we got through rebounding. A few minutes per game of Berg/TKR frontcourt could help in that department, and while Berg’s in there, give the guy the ball. At this point he’s hitting 92% from the floor. Not saying he needs starter minutes, but anybody hitting that percentage is just not getting enough shots while they’re in the game.

Did I mention (small sample size or not) he’s over 91% from 2?
The rebounding and occasional putback Berg gives us isn't worth everything else in the negative he gives us. Painter would be playing him if he was remotely able to contribute. It's not like we aren't thin inside.

What would be your lineup then?

Smith, Loyer, Colvin, Gillis and TKR?

It depends. Most of the teams already have a bunch of Q1A, Q1B and Q2 games because they likely are playing in the B1G, Big 12, SEC or ACC(especially now with super conferences). But it's not always been that way and the committee went more off the eye test. SOS is just a tool and normally just a crap argument.

1. Gillis has played the 4 before, and he did it even before Zach was full time starting at the 5. He's certainly not worse at it than Heide. He's a better player than Furst or Berg and those are our only other bigs. Do you think Furst and Berg should never play any minutes so Heide gets more playing time? If not, then I remain confused why you'd say he can't help over them.

2. Who didn't Queen bully? Again no one stopped him, we don't have anyone on the team who can stop those kind of players. Heide isn't. Neither are Berg or Furst. So I don't get the point. What Gillis can do is fill in the break, bring a big out and open things up on the offense. This team was always going to struggle at defense. It's the offensive ability where we win games.

3. Berg barely plays because he can't guard anyone. Furst has been decent defensively but brings almost nothing on offense. Clearly we saw in the last few games Painter keeps trying different options because he's not really happy with any of them. It's a hole. Gillis isn't filling it to perfection by any means but he'd most definitely be value added.

4. No one said he'd play 20 minutes a game. Furst and Berg avg 10 minutes each. I suspect Berg would see the floor in either spot minutes when TKR is in foul trouble, but most of those slot right over to Gillis. So you'd probably have a scenario where Gillis and Furst would add up roughly 20 instead of Furst and Berg. Only it probably would depend on who the opposing 4 was which one got more or less in a game.

5. Gillis plays slower than Berg or Furst? Gillis doesn't slow this team down at all. If you want to argue we'd struggle with him against double bigs sure, of course that's the same issue with Heide. But slow? Not remotely.

Smith, Loyer, Colvin, Gillis and TKR?

No SOS is also used to seed the good teams - used as a tool to decipher the subtle differences between teams with similar resumes. Why does the committee use wins over Quad 1, 2, etc? Same reason
