As much as I dont want to talk about Indiana....

IU had a road game against Louisville on their schedule for this year and they bailed. That's soft. If they would have played that game, Saturday is meaningless for them as far as the playoff is concerned. 75% of their schedule is not their fault. 25% is. This is on them. I have not heard that mentioned by any college football pundits and they haven't done their homework. In hindsight they should have kept the Louisville game.

I firmly believe they go to Columbus and give Ohio State everything they can handle. I would be more shocked at a blow out by OSU than a IU win.

Great loss

Yep, and it's frustrating that 2 of our most athletic perimeter players ( Colvin / Heide ) aren't capable of taking a game over for us in that spot. I can understand Cox and Harris struggling, but Colvin is a headscratcher to me. Is he basically just a 3 point shooter who can throw down electrifying dunks when he has an open path to the rim?
Both have proven so far to just be catch and shoot guys. If either of them can develop an attack game, our ceiling goes higher. Neither has shown an ability to put the ball on the floor and attack. We'll see if they can. Colvin has certainly improved his defense and rebounding. Cam has also showed some rebounding. Having the ability to breakdown a defense is more difficult IMO.

Shaka

After going on that magical Final Four run, Shaka coached teams went 12 straight years (including 6 with Texas and 2 with Marquette) never reaching the second weekend. That finally ended last year with wins over 2 double digit seeds.

Prior to those two wins last year, Shaka had 1 NCAA tournament win in 8 seasons as a P5 head coach. In 9 years as a P5 head coach, his only NCAA wins are over two 15 seed and a 10 seed.

For someone so focused on the NCAA tournament, you sure seem to not be doing your homework here.
I wasn't comparing Shaka and Painters tourney resumes.
2 things can be true at the same time: 1) Until last year, Painter's teams severely underachieved in the tourney and 2) Shaka and Painter have been to the same number of FF in their careers.

This thread is reserved for bni to gripe about Matt Gaetz

Do Pell grants fall under the jurisdiction of the DoE?
What exactly is the mission of the DoE and what examples can be provided to demonstrate success?

Here's an example, albeit at the state level: Chicago public schools is near the top of the list in per-student spending, yet they have terrible graduation rates and reading/math scores. That's a failure of the system.
Playing the whataboutism game here.
Oklahoma is 49th in education and their state school superintendent just purchased 500 bibles to be put in every classroom. Do you think that's the best way to spend his time and the taxpayer's money considering the performance of his schools?

He also tried to require every student to watch a video of him praying for trump and trashing teacher unions. Didn't work out too well. Neither did his blatant attempt to get the education secretary position.

I think this was a shrewd political move by DJT.
wtf. A very astute move to nominate a guy who his hated by many in his party and who was about to be nailed by a House report into his alleged activities with a minor. Then have him withdraw.
Please explain the 4D chess move. This should be good.

Shaka

Until last year, Painter was considered one of the worst tourney coaches. I believe he's the only coach to lose to a 16, 15, 14 and 12 seeds. In addition, he had only one time beaten a higher seed that wasn't an 8/9 games.

Just like you see nothing about IU beating a good team. But they can change that narrative this weekend.
No I see them with good wins. But you any of those teams Indiana's schedule and they still wouldn't be 10-0. Give Oregon, Texas, OSU, OSU, Georgia Indiana's schedule and they #2 in the nation without any questions.

This is just dumb. Purdue under Painter has been to the S16 or better in 5 of the last 7 tourneys. There is only one other team that has had better consistency during that same period, Gonzaga. Add on top of that a Champ runner up and an elite 8 and you have a top 6-7 tourney performance in all of College bball.

Also that 4 year tourney run that you are talking about included a canceled tourney, and a S16. IF you didn't completely cherry pick your data to fit your narrative the book ends to that 4 year (with only 3 tourneys) was an E8 and a Finals appearance........

Zach Edey for THREE!

Just an update for folks who may be interested. Zach Edey has been out the last couple of games with an ankle sprain from a game last week with Denver.

Predictably, Mr. Green is trying to parlay it.....what a maroon.....

From an excerpt via si.com:

"Edey has not played for the Grizzlies since November 17 against the Denver Nuggets, where he put up 7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in only 14 minutes. It would have been fascinating to see how he handles a center like Embiid, but the matchup will unfortunately have to wait.

This week, Edey was caught catching strays from Draymond Green calling him soft. Green specifically cited that Embiid would play extra physical against Edey.

"He's big enough to possibly have fooled people that he could be a little tough, and now nobody believe you," Green said. "Now Joel Embiid gonna like try to put his chest into the stanchion just to see... Ya'll gotta stop breeding these soft dudes man. Stop making these guys turn out to be snitches and soft and going to tell, because you are a big man!"
What a d!ck. Love to watch someone knock the shi+ out of Green.

Just for fun....had Painter used the portal..

That is very hard to answer, since Purdue is arguably the only Power-5 basketball program (IMO) that refuses to go full-bore NIL (so far).
There are 3 scenarios...
1. Continue to do it the old-fashioned way with recruiting, because so far it has worked. This is where CMP is at and does not figure he needs to go NIL, over a recruited kid(s).
2. Join the NIL way of doing things because the recruiting method is no longer working, and conference foes are surging ahead of you.
3. See the NIL writing on the wall and retire from coaching because of it (Jay Wright). Which, BTW, would require Purdue to go ahead with a national coaching search and hire a proven coach and not a "lets hire this assistant and see what happens".

*All of the above assumes that the NCAA does not develop and enforce a NIL salary cap, so team A with alumni/boosters cant outspend team B that has alumni, but not as many boosters.
Purdue is using the NIL, just differently than other schools. We are using it for retention to make sure we don't have to go hire mercs every year. So far the teams with the most success using NIL have been getting one or two really good players out of the portal. The hiring entire teams each season hasn't had very good results.

Great loss

Physical, athletic opponent that pressures the ball and takes away post ups. Exactly the type of opponent that has given Purdue trouble.

Braden was out of his mind the first half (in the worst way), too many turnovers across the board, couldn’t keep them out of the paint, living in help on defense. This Purdue team needs to get much better and they will. Good for them to lose this game.
Yep. We knew it would be a roller coaster year, with the tough schedule and freshmen playing prominent roles. I'll enjoy watching the growth and evolution as they learn to play as a team at both ends.

Indiana doesn't HAVE to beat OSU. Just look like you belong. They have the eye test in their favor. Indiana is playing like how an elite team should play against mediocre teams by obliterating them in a way no one else in the country is. But you see nothing about Alabama losing to Vandy(a mediocre team), Ole Miss losing to Kentucky(a mediocre team), Tennessee losing to Arkansas(a mediocre team, Notre Dame losing to Northern Illinois(a mediocre team), BYU losing to Kansas.

I will. (Because, yes, I am a little envious of their football hire)

Interesting point made yesterday about the IU v OSU game. The point was that if OSU wins, IU should NOT be awarded a playoff slot.

The reasoning is the strength of schedule. The IU preseason is the weakest of the ranked teams. The second point that caught my eye is that IU has not played any Big Ten team in the upper half of the conference, although Washington cracked that ceiling at 4-3/6-5. Normally Michigan would be there, but not this year.

At this point Washington is their only foe with a winning record.

Are they better than Purdue? Absolutely, but that is not my point. We might have 4 wins with their schedule.
Purdue would probably still have 1 win.

Joey Galloway

FWIW I'm not sure ND is any more worthy of a spot than IU. Probably less so. They haven't beaten anyone and have the NIU loss. I think if they drop one of their last two they will not get in which is what I'm hoping for.

Frankly, when they went to 12, it just poured more cash for the SEC/Big Ten cartel to work with.....I would hasten to wager there are more back-door deals then there were with Jordan Lee, Merilee Stone, Andy Bradley, and Cliff Barnes waiting for J.R. to fleece them.

As much as I dont want to talk about Indiana....

Probably not. But Penn State did play power conference opposition in the non conference . Texas too.
Penn State played a crap WV team, Kent State, and Bowling Green. And they nearly lost to Bowling Green. Is that better than WIU, FIU, and Charlotte? Sure. But not by much, and PSU is thought to be a lock with their loss to OSU on the books, and they haven't obliterated lesser teams.

I think the takeaway may be that their aren’t enough P4 one loss and two loss with big win teams to fill 12 spots.

The lowest a one loss P4 team has ever been ranked at the end of a season is 7th.

Shaka

I feel like that horse has been beaten to death. Painter had a historically bad 4 year tourney run until last year. Shaka, while not having an impressive tourney resume either, has the same number of FFs.

Linda McMahon: So being co-CEO of a wrastling federation qualifies you for Secretary of Education

Allegations do not mean proof. The Biden Justice Dept dropped the case. Do you think if they had a case they would have dropped a chance to discredit a repub congressman?

I don't know. I would like to hear his confirmation hearings first before rushing to judgement like urban radio and you.
The evil Garland who was unqualified and went after republicans strictly based on politics didn't prosecute because he didn't think he could win the case based on the evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt. There were lots of questions about the credibility of the witnesses. Gaetz wasn't exonerated.
