the AZ State coach is from there. He won't be leaving. Why not? We can pay him and he can play in a real conference.
Just my 2 cents - worth a shot.

Dillingham played at Arizona State too. He's not leaving ASU for Purdue.Tulane coach
SMU coach
AZ St coach
Good with any or all!
Need to look hard at Chuck Martin out of Miami of Ohio or Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan. Both guys have turned around programs that were in a disastrous condition! Both are very familiar with Indiana Ohio and Michigan .I have seen on several credible websites that Walters is being fired. That is great. It was the right call. He has the worst Purdue head coaching record ever for any Purdue coach over 1 year of coaching, including Hazell. Wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Ok, now what do we now? We obviously have to hire a head coach. Do we hire an established coach or an up and coming coach? We know that we need to hire someone with some head coaching experience for sure.
National signing day is Wednesday I believe. We obviously cannot tell any verbals or possible recruits who the coach will be. We don’t want to rush this search again like we did with Walters. There is a signing day in February, but the one in December is the big signing day anymore. That means that this year’s recruiting class will definitely not be a big contributor.
We are going to have to go with the transfer portal big time and a coach that can bring players with him. That means that we are going to have to loosen the purse strings for the NIL. Are we willing to do that? I hope we are now willing to make that commitment.
One thing for sure is this offseason is going to be active and interesting. Should give the board plenty to talk and debate.
Offensive mind.Criteria:
HC exp, preferrabely from a big program. No more coordinators.
Has a staff in place that will come with him.
Strong recruiter.
Personality that will reenergize the fan base and donors.
Doesn't buy into the belief that Purdue can't compete with the top of the conference.
Painter is a hell of a bargain
Given the buyout amount, I’m not surprised…Thought it was interesting that it led with President Mung being on board.
Thanks for that. I've been looking for an official announcement.
A guy can dream, no? 😊I thought the same while watching their game yesterday, but looked him up and he’s at his dream job - a hometown raised head coach. He isn’t leaving anytime soon
They just gave a big time contract extensionI'm trying to look at this objectively.
The TV revenue should provide for attractive salaries, even with the Walters buyout. On the other hand, can Bobinski line up enough NIL commitment to attract top candidates?
And how will candidates look at B1G membership? On the one hand, Purdue's a part of the wealthiest league in college sports. But, Purdue's also sitting at the very bottom of a tougher, expanded B1G. At first glance next year's schedule looks more manageable. Still, up-and-coming coaches might see more upward mobility in the ACC or BXII.
The fact that Indiana's coming off a historic season could also complicate the search, unless Cignetti does us all a solid and jumps at a bigger gig.
Painter is a hell of a bargainWe all know that these coaches have golden parachutes. Its the way of the hire. I am also a Browns fan, it hurts how much we are paying Watson to be the worst QB in the league, but such is life.
The better example is the CEO who gets fired after tanking a Fortune 500 company and getting his multi million dollar golden parachute that they do not deserve, this is very similar.
Why not? We can pay him and he can play in a real conference. Why would Az St coach come here?

Guaranteed. An offensive minded HC with B1G HC experience. Decent recruiter. Got a moribund program off the Schneid and took it to bowl games. Fired prepping for a bowl game but has learned since. Hired by Urban as OC. Affordable and hungry.whoever the 'new' guy is, he will have HC experience?
If we hire a 63 year old coach, fired multiple times, with an overall record of 33-63, we are dumber than I first believed. Not to be that guy, but firing a HC after only two years isn’t exactly opening the market to big time candidates. Plus, $$ is an issue and PU wants an experienced HC who can bring an exciting offence to WL. Like the good old Tiller days. This appears to check a lot of boxes.
But as I said, this may not happen but they are talking. We’ll see.
Why do you think Ill will share? I havent gotten a chance to watch them this year so curious as to why you think that. I have watched both Wisc and Oregon and they are impressive as well.Based on what I've seen, I'd go:
Illinois 14-6
Purdue 14-6
UCLA 13-7
Oregon 13-7
Michigan 12-8
Wisconsin 12-8
Ohio State could sneak into that group but I'm not sure I see anyone else doing it right now. Rutgers' freshmen are talented but they don't have enough around them to endure the gauntlet of the B1G. Maryland and MSU look solid but a step behind. No idea what to make of IU.

Just canned at Tulsa
I would imagine he has many contacts and is a name very recognizable. He would be able to recruit well just due to name recognition alone along with past success. If this was after brohm then i agree a great hire. Purdue is a hot mess right now. Criteria 1) success as a head coach and my preference would be mutiple stops 2) can bring his staff for a quick transition 3) can bring some players perferably a starting qb 4) has an offensive backround. That would be my criteria in order of importance. Mullen just cant do 2-3 and purdue needs a quick transition with immediate upside from an ability to retain and bring in players.
No way - 63 years old and limited success.I’m hearing that Kevin Wilson’s people have been contacted, and that PU’s interest has been reciprocated.
hard to say since it's a stepping stone jobAnyone hearing 'credible' rumors?
I have a buddy who's a big time donor, but he might have to sign a NDA if he's consulted.
