Why I don’t think Walters 100% gets fired and why that’s a good thing

Allowing a clown show of a hiring process is how we ended up with Walters. There are probably dozens of G5 and FCS head coaches who would be a huge upgrade who won't sniff any power conference opportunities in the next five years.

First priority, head coaching experience. Don't believe me, take it straight from Walters who admitted a few weeks back that he is too involved in assistant coaching duties and not focused enough on running the program. You think him not having prior head coaching experience might be a reason for that? Hire someone who does.

Of course if you want to tackle the heavily talked about NIL limitations feel free to write a big ass check and put your money where your mouth is.
We supposedly got told thanks but no thanks by multiple head coaches 2 years ago.

The larger pool of candidates you can have access to, the better the odds of success are.

We won’t make it to the 2nd interview with the next Tiller or Brohm if we don’t have a better salary cap answer than we did 2 years ago… in my opinion.

Two years ago we didn't have the $80-100 million TV money coming in. We do now. We need to pour all of that money into boosting the football program. The Big 12, ACC and G5 cannot possibly keep up.

Ghost of Fat Jack mentioned that we have spent $115 million on stadium upgrades over the past few years. For what? Remember that goofy thingy in the south end zone that is now gone?

We need to spend big money on a coach and player incentives that will make us competitive again in the Big Ten.

Just asking for better than Walters. That won't be hard.

We did. It was 55-60mil 2 years ago. It’s like $70mil now. Was still more than ACC and BIG12 teams had.

It’s time to press the advantage here.

Offer a guy $8mil, competitive assistant pool and outline what’s coming in revenue sharing and let them turn you down.

Then go to plan B and C guys.

You’re not at a point here you can continue with this coach at this point.

Like I said, if you believe it is a matter of NIL, write the check. I'm sure they will take it.
It’s a matter of player payroll if we want a Cignetti or Brohm instead of a Danny Hope who has no other options.

If the player payroll isn’t where it needs to be yet, maybe it makes sense to punt on the 2025 season, let Bobo retire, bring in a new AD, let Walters be the punching bag of next years schedule, then have the new AD make the move next fall.

And let basketball have a bigger cut of the 2025-26 player payroll, to help retain what should be a very good team, and maybe add a key transfer.

Your terrible idea is gong to get purdue kicked out of the b1g/$ec and into the mac.

No coach is going to wait a year and hope a Big Ten job is coming open again. Especially for a coach that doesn't have the resume to be hired by Nebraska or Wisconsin.

The Purdue gig is going to be desirable because they already know what's coming. And Purdue has $20MM to $40MM more reasons why it's going to be better than an ACC or Big12 job.
Who said anything about telling a specific coach to wait? Next year when the job opens you have a different pool lol. Coaches who don’t have to take any job aren’t going to a place where they’ll have money in a year.

Oh no no no. I am not giving a dime. But I’m fine with 5-7. The giving is only required of those who complain. Anyone who has expectations and ISNT giving needs to be the one to put the money where their mouth is.

if we run it back with Walters, how much revenue share should an all time terrible 2025 roster get?

Sure there is. Brohm was. Cignetti was. Rhule was. Bielema was. Fleck was. A proven head coach.

Can we/will we pay up for that type of hire? I have no idea.
Just because a coach works in one place doesn't mean you can just cut and paste them into literally any place and have the same result.

I'm not talking about specific coaches. You have the listening/reading skills of a 2 year old or someone with significant ADHD, which explains the number of posts you produce...

Well then wtf were you talking about when you said this?

“No coach is going to wait a year and hope a Big Ten job is coming open again.”

I never said anything about anyone waiting a year. This is the problem with society. I can deal with a bumbling stooge who knows he can’t drive. It’s the people who can’t and think they can lol.

Were you talking about non-specific coaches waiting for a year? Because no shit no one is going to wait for a year lol

What do you mean? They have to give out 20 million, no? That’s my understanding.. across all sports. Comes from their Mega tv deal
Who says we have to give the lions share to football? Painter and Shondell could go hang banners, whereas Walters will just waste it.

Or that we couldn’t hold some of the 2025-26 football share back until the next coach is hired a year from now? Spend it in December instead of August.

Well, you can go that route. When you’re asked to take a reduce media share for mediocrity reminiscent of financially strapped g5 teams don’t act shocked or cry for your basketball program.

Walters isn’t being kept long term. It’s a one year deal unless he suddenly has a miracle turnaround. You spend to have an established roster for the next coach

This roster is going to suck either way with a lame duck coach. Wouldn’t the next coach rather have an additional $10 million to spend next December 4th?

From your original post:
"So, would you rather make the hire from a very so so group of coaches? Or would you rather wait a year and make the hire when really good coaches want to be your coach?"

My point, nitwit, is that a coach who wants to get into the Big Ten isn't going to say no to an opportunity just because revenue sharing won't be realized for another year. They're going to realize that a Big Ten school, who just got paid $20mm to $40mm more than an ACC or Big12 school via TV contract is gonna have a much easier time paying for revenue sharing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out...

There are already Big 12 schools questioning their payroll ability based on their revenue.

And not being able to sell this NOW plus a good salary ($6-8mil)and a good assistant pool means you’re not serious about football. Hard to ask the fans to donate to Tickets, JPC, and the Alliance if you’re not willing to put the maximum investment of your $70mil TV winfall as the AD to the program.

We kind of know this but will be confirmed sadly here in a few weeks.

Most of us knew the coach was a dud game one. It was confirmed in game 13 this year. We had PLENTY of time to come up with a plan of how we sell the opportunity now and into the future to the next coach. Instead it looks like the AD sat on its hands waiting for a miracle that was never going to come. True shame as we could invest and win modestly IMO. From there, build.

This AD is trying it backwards and it’s a massive failure. There’s still time but if Walters isn’t gone by dinner time on Monday the 2nd, I’m OUT!

Not going to wait a whole year for things to align on their timeline. We’ll lose crucial talent and time that would have ultimately made the next guys job easier if we sit idle.

And my point is that there are coaches better than that coach who are ambivalent now but wouldn’t be if Purdue was spending north of ten million in tv money.

It isn't going to be $20-40 million more. I's going to be $50-60 million more. That's why we need to use this windfall to poach a good coach.
