Why I don’t think Walters 100% gets fired and why that’s a good thing

We're not getting 5-7 with Walters even if we increase NIL spending. Likely 2-10 best case scenario next year.
Yeah I’m not happy with this year. However, my unhappiness doesn’t rise to a level beyond “eh” because I don’t believe in regular people saying “hey I’m not gonna take mine on a vacation this year because I gotta help get a stud linebacker from Toledo to Purdue.” Therefore I have no right to cry.

If our mega donors and rich alum aren’t embarrassed by some of the taunting they are likely getting in Indy and south of Indy, oh well. I would be but then again I’m not worth no $25 million dollars.

I don’t believe in this system so I’m not gonna cry. This is not “hey how come our coach can’t win recruiting battles cause he’s a nice guy.” Now you need cash.

Walters hasn’t don’t well, don’t take the above as me saying he isn’t hasn’t performed really poorly, but if I’m the admin and donors, why not wait one year until we know what the landscape is?

Take the example of Nic Scourton. A lot of these kids come from working class backgrounds. Times are tough. Even if Texas A&M doubles your NIL offer, are you really bolting over christmas if you just made $250-300K in tv money per year the last two years?

The decision (and no @pboiler18 im not saying anyone needs to like it) was likely made that once the conditions in the previous paragraph are known and mapped out, that now gives even the lowliest big ten schools a competitive advantage over a LOT of schools they don’t have one over now. Let Walters deal run one more year, put next years money into basketball (more so than you would with a good football coach), spend next year with everyone knowing the writing is on the wall, then go to a better pool of candidates with less of a buy out for Walters.

You also get the benefit of signing two coordinators and seeing if one of them jumps off the page as the next guy

If they keep Walters in not sure I’ll ever have seen a duck so lame. And I was a supporter for as long as I could be

The problem with your "logic" is that you can't let this program sink any lower or revenue and whatever NIL Purdue is getting is going to decline significantly. Losing donors is not what this program needs right now. And that's what will happen in your scenario...

But it’s not up to me and I’m not a donor so as nat would say, nobody gives a crap what I think. Which could be the overarching point of me posting here over the years lol

He will be back! After all Purdue's football program was only rated as the 3rd worse in the country, and I'm sure the College Administration and AD want us to be #1, and Walters is the one who can get us there!

If he is coming back there needs to be a Deion Sanders type of fire sale....Coaches and roster..Get new players and give them a chance..Anyone coming back from a one win team shouldn't be guaranteed anything for next year....And if Purdue could figure out that NIL thing, that would help..

No it isn't a "fact" We're ranked right around 34th/37th depending on whether you go by on3 or 24x7. It's also silly to say it's not an "attractive job".. that is something really only Woleblab thinks.
There you go again with the name calling!

All you ever do is name call! You must have no life! If this board was actually moderated, you would have been banned 5 years ago.

I’m sorry Purdue sucks this year! But you are worse than Purdue! I feel bad for you. What are you going to be like after the IU game?

The facts are facts! Look at all the elite coaches who chose to coach at Purdue! Name one! Tiller was no where close to being a name coach when he accepted the Purdue job. Young was a good coach, but was not a name coach and left as soon as he could. Akers had failed in Texas and was looking for a second chance Miles turned down the opportunity to coach at Purdue. Brohm came to Purdue from WKU.

Face it! And wake up to reality! Purdue is NOT some plum job that any legit, name coach is interested in. Look at the last 4 hires, and then tell the entire world what name coach even interviewed for the Purdue job! Who did Tiller best out for the job? Who did hope beat out? Who did Hazell beat out? How about Brohm? Who was his competition to be hired? Who did Walters beat out????

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize No name coach is interested in accepting the Purdue coaching job. The best Purdue can hope for is some has been coach looking for that last paycheck. Or some unproven assistant looking to make a name for themselves as a head coach.

I’m not being negative. I’m being factual!

And just because I’m not a homer, doesn’t mean I’m not a Purdue fan and loyal to my Alma mater. It just means I believe there is more to like about Purdue than their football team. I believe it’s ok to admit our football team suks! As a student I didn’t care if the team was good or bad.

I believe that is a problem with some of you! You can’t handle losing! You just can’t accept losing. And you definitely cannot accept that IU is having a better year than Purdue has had in the past 4 decades! It kills some of you to show good sportsmanship and give IU props when they are justified!

SAY IT! IU is better than Purdue this year. To be factual, so are a lot of teams. And just because I admit reality. Doesn’t mean I’m not a Purdue fan. It just means I’m not a homer and I can admit reality!

Is it going to get any better next year? NO. Look at our current team! Look at our schedule. Look at our incoming recruiting class. Do you believe 30 4star players are going to decide to come to Purdue via the portal? That’s not how portal transfers work. Do you think people like Musk or Cuban are going to donate to Purdue’s NIL fund?

I don’t care what you say about me. People who know football and are paid to do so predicted Purdue would win 4 games this year and finish last in the Big10. Purdue had 2 overtime losses and almost beat msu! I’d say those realistic and objective people who are paid to evaluate teams and talent were pretty accurate. Next time, don’t get so uptight and upset when the people who know football actually know what they are talking about.

The season is over. I was wrong. I said I thought Purdue had a chance to win 4-6 games. I was overly optimistic. As I look to next year, the only way I see Purdue improving on its record is if they fire Walters and hire someone who brings his entire staff and also 20 players with him. Because no new coach is going to win anything with our current players and recruits. And sadly, I just don’t see that happening!

I haven’t analyzed our schedule for next year yet. I can’t see Purdue winning more than 4 games any time in the near future. And unlike you, I’m ok with that and can accept it as fact. Unlike Ohio state, Football is not a priority at Purdue. It would be nice if our Engineering and science programs elevated their standings to the level they once were!

Some of you need to get over yourself! Just because I can accept Purdue being a bad football team, doesn’t mean I’m any less than a Purdue fan than you are! It doesn’t make me happy to see Purdue lose!

I had tickets and went to the Ohio st and Michigan game today. I’m not an Ohio st fan. But the ticket was free, so I went to watch the game. The score was close, but it was a very badly played and called game. If I get another free ticket, I may go to another game next year. Frankly, for the money, I’d rather go to a Weird Al concert!

Someone is off their meds again.
Of course, since he promised last spring to leave this forum and never return…

I agree that no name coach is coming here. They have to get lucky with a Walters type or an old guy looking for his last gig. This program is a disaster and will take a lot to get back to mediocrity.

We can turn it around with the right coach. Kansas comes to mind. If we spend the money they will come. But it starts with the coach. 6 wins a year and the coach keeps his job forever.
