Trey is making his decision on October 30th

I think 20-30 in any given class is fairly accurate. You have to remember teams like Duke, Kentucky, Kansas get 3-5 of these players every year and someone has to play second and third fiddle.
We may be defining it differently. I am thinking more of those special players who simply say "We are NOT going to lose this game. - I AM going to be a lot better next year. - I WILL make this last basket -- again." Not all top 30 have that and some that have it are not top 30. Think Scott Skiles.

LOL I did the exact opposite. You have turd over on the IU board claiming how superior Ivey is (in regards to Leal and Galloway) because of his recruiting ranking. I flat out said I don’t care what Ivey’s ranking is, it doesn’t mean anything. I said in any given class there’s arguably 20-30 recruits who have that “it” factor from day 1 and after that there really isn’t much of a difference.

So the average coach wouldn’t prefer Ivey over Leal or Galloway?

Not to be "that guy" but we are on a Rivals page so Trey is #32 and Caleb is #37

I think they will both be great in the college. Furst will need to add to his frame to bang around where as Trey might have a better freshman season. Just my 2¢

Weird, I just looked at 24/7 and got different results. I looked at their list of top players which had Furst higher than Kaufman. However, if you look at 5he individual pages, you get a different answer. No wonder there is confusion here. I think we are getting different data from different sections of the 24/7 web site. What fun!

Since you don't think their

Once again, I could give a rats a$$ what you believe a Purdue recruit, that IU wanted has in potential. When he was in 8th grade, I knew he would be a great basketball player. I knew what his potential was....come on... seriously.
You knew one of the best 8th graders in the country would be good? You must be Nostradamus! He’s good and I would take him in a second but will he make the jumps in ability and production this year and next that Cody Zeller did? I’m from Washington and watched as each year he improved tremendously. If Furst makes those jumps then he’ll be a 2 and done stud or maybe he levels off and ends up a really good 4 year player. If I were a Purdue fan I would look at it as a win/win. He’s a great player for 2 years or he’s a solid/really good player for 4 years.

I think both got what they needed in the players that they got. Ivey brings athleticism at the wing that Purdue needs and IU gets very smart hard working leader types in Galloway and Leal which I think IU needs going forward. They aren’t half bad either

My bad I just looked and Ivey is a guard. For some reason I thought he was 6’6. Anyways, he’s still athletic and a very talented player.

On 24/7, Caleb Furst is ranked at#35 nationally. Trey Kaufman is ranked #41. How is it you are misreading these numbers just to pick a meaningless fight? Sometimes it’s better to just acknowledge someone else’s better argument than to die on a hill with bad data and bad intentions.

Is there much difference between #35 and #41? Probably not. Much depends on the team they pick, how they are utilized, and their own internal drivers. Those last three elements are unknown to us right now. You might be right that Kaufman is a better player, but if he goes to IU, I know for a fact he will wind up on an unmotivated, under performing team that will likely be in the ugly throws of a coaching change within the 2-3 years he will be there. Poor choice for someone like Trey.
You know that for a fact? What are the lottery numbers in the next drawing?

I read where it’s Archie’s birthday Oct 30. We’ll see if it will be a happy one.
As some old drunk I know likes to say, “that ain’t got nothing to do with nothing”. I seriously doubt Trey announcing on the 30th has anything to do with short man’s birthday.

Just as a clarification as it can be confusing since 247 has two rankings, the site itself has Kaufman ranked 31st and Furst ranked 45th.

Furst is ranked higher in the 247 composite ranking which is an average of all of the recruiting services rankings (Rivals, 247, and ESPN). The reason Furst is higher in the composite rankings is because ESPN has him ranked 30th while they have Kaufman ranked 72nd.

Kind of reminds me of the IU guys or analyst claiming Kaufman could be better. It's all a crapshoot. Depends on certain systems you put that player in, along with ability. I like the production over unknowns. This isn't saying I don't want Kaufman but the proof is in the pudding.

Are you talking to me??? When I looked it up on 247 Kaufman was rated higher than Furst but it’s not by much. Regardless of the rankings I think it’s pretty clear that Kaufman is the better player right now. When you’re only separated by 10s of guys and not 100s though the rankings are a pretty useless way of determining which player is better. Obviously they aren’t separated by much as they are both very good. With your attitude on here I’m willing to bet you’re no taller than 5’8 and got picked on a lot growing up?

Thanks TF004! That explains a lot. ESPN is the least reliable rating service, so essentially, Kaufman is better ranked than Furst. I appreciate the post to clear up my misunderstanding of the rankings on 24/7.

I kept seeing different numbers when folks would post comparisons. I still see them, but I guess it just means you pick the numbers you like. All said, the difference between these two ranking is minimal and probably means very little regarding their eventual success.

I might note that regardless of where Kaufman goes, Furst is going to have a great career at Purdue. If Kaufman goes to IU, I still think he will be part of an underachieving group, and have to deal with the inevitable coaching change that is just on the horizon. To me, the choice is very clear, but to an 18 year old player, I am sure it is much more cloudy.

We will have to agree to disagree here. I believe he will have success whether he chooses IU or Purdue. I don’t see a coaching change in the next 4 years for IU. I believe IU will start to compete for the Big Ten title, but I also don’t see them buying out Archie when they are taking such a big hit financially with Covid.

OK the post pattern has become clear. What annoying IU know it all were you before you became this incarnation?

other than I feel sorry for the short man hearing that if he already doesn't know...assuming he is Purdue bound. ;)

jock straps? Damn, you're as old as.....me. I think they're all wearing $150 UA compression shorts now.
I still have two pair of shoes and a few jocks that haven't been used for 22 years. I'm waiting on that magic youth pill. I'm afraid to get rid of them as a sign they will never be used again. ;)

OK!!! I was just fantasizing about Tre, Furst, Kauffman, Ivey, and Morton with Newman, Gillis, and Edey lifting the National Championship trophy ..........

And a bright red cardinal ran head on into my window ....

It's officially a LOCK!
In this scenario Hunter, Sasha, and Wheeler would also be there since Tre is also in the same class. If you are thinking those three would have already graduated and this would be Furst, and Kaufman's soph year then Tre would also be gone.

Would love to see a National Championship either way! Maybe back to back?

I’m to the point I don’t care where he goes as long as if he picks Purdue we get Miller and Mohammed. If we strike out there then next year I don’t know what they do without Trayce and that other big guy. Kind of think about it I could see Kaufman picking PU because if he goes to IU he’ll start at the 4, most likely and I’m pretty sure he wants to play the 3. Miller will be too skinny as a frosh to play the 4 at least against the good teams.
