The early signing period for both men's and women's basketball is currently open and Matt Painter signed one of his best classes as Purdue's head coach. The Boilermakers officially inked five recruits, Kanon Catchings, Raleigh Burgess, Daniel Jacobsen, Jack Benter and CJ Cox, holding the 8th-best recruiting class in the country, per Rivals.
That mark could improve in the near future as the Boilermakers await to hear the decision of four-star guard Gicarri Harris. Everyone knows the backstory of Big Dog's son and his connection to the program.
As of this writing, the Boilermakers still sit in a good spot for the shooting guard and while there is no timeline for a potential commitment, there could be a resolution coming within the next few days as the early signing period is set to close on November 15th.
Matt Painter disclosed on Wednesday that Purdue is still looking to add a guard to the class... aka Harris. Purdue will have to beat out his hometown school in Georgia Tech to do that, but the Boilermakers are in the driver seat right now.
“We’ve got a bit of everything with this class and can still take one more player. We still need some help in our backcourt with what we are losing this year. We feel like if we can get one more guard that it will really help our case next season and moving forward. We’re excited about this class and where we are going with our program. This is a class that has a lot of skill and high basketball IQ.”
If and when Harris makes a decision, Purdue will have a new can of worms to deal with, considering the Boilermakers are at the scholarship limit for next season already.
Headlining the visitors is a pair of in-state defenders that are at the top of Purdue's board in the class of 2025, four-stars Mariyon Dye and Damien Shanklin. Dye has seen his stock skyrocket over the last few months, adding offers from the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The Elkhart, Indiana native is making his first game day trip to West Lafayette this weekend.
Shanklin has been to campus on several occasions since picking up his offer when the new coaching staff got to West Lafayette, including a trip up from Indianapolis for the Syracuse game earlier this season. Shanklin and Notre Dame have been picking up steam of late, so Purdue will attempt to boost its stock this weekend.
Two other notable visitors hail from the 2025 class as well, Ohio athlete
Teaunn Hunter and three-star athlete and Stanford commit Maxwell Richardson. Hunter is a target for Grant O'Brien in the secondary for the class. The Boilermakers are Hunter's only Power 5 offer at this time, after he earned one during a summer camp at Purdue a few months ago.
Richardson will be making the trip from Michigan with his high school teammate and 2024 Purdue commit Ty Hudkins. Richardson, who is committed to Stanford as an inside linebacker, does not currently have an offer from the Boilermakers but could be a guy to watch.
There are also a number of prospects who could very well add offers from the Boilermakers after visiting campus this weekend, including the likes of 2025 safety Cody Haddad, 2025 defensive lineman Gordy Sulfsted, 2025 defensive end Zachary Green, and 2025 running back Lucas Farrington.
There is now a void at the outside linebacker slot in the class, as Purdue has only three-star Jamari Payne at the position. Fellow defensive line commits Caleb Mitchell Irving and Demeco Kennedy are both slated to join Brick Haley's group when they get to campus next year, which has Joe Dineen looking for another addition to his room.
Two candidates are already clear on Purdue's board, three-star DJ Allen and JUCO prospect Daniel Brown.
Allen had long been on the radar of Dineen and the defensive coaching staff, even setting an official visit to West Lafayette this summer. He did not make it there, however, as he committed to UCF shortly after an official visit there. Now, the Tennessee native is back on the market and Purdue will be in high pursuit. It has not been locked in as of yet, but expect Allen to make his way up to West Lafayette at some point before early National Signing Day next month.
Brown picked up an offer from the Boilermakers just before Jones made his announcement earlier this week. The Hutchinson CC product has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023, notching 20 tackles for loss and 15 sacks at the junior college level, which jumped out at Dineen and Purdue. The 6'1", 240-pound outside linebacker expressed a desire to get to campus for a visit, but that has not materialized just yet.
If Purdue does not land one of those two prospects, the staff will dip into the 2024 JUCO crop to bring another outside linebacker into the class.
Green will be on campus for the Indiana game at the end of the month for that visit. Purdue is trending in the right direction for the Coffeyville C.C. product and could very well land a commitment upon the conclusion of that visit.
Three-star 2024 offensive tackle Andrew Dennis has also set an official visit with the Boilermakers, along with three others over the next month. Dennis will visit Penn Statethis weekend, Clemson next weekend, Illinois the weekend of Thanksgiving and Purdueto start December.
Once viewed as the frontrunner for the former Michigan State commit, Purdue is now in a tough battle with Penn State in particular. There is a lot that has to play out, but the Boilermakers will remain in the thick of things for now. Dennis will announce his decision on January 6th at the All-American Game.

BoilerUpload - Weekly Upload: Gicarri Harris, football visitors, and new 2024 prospects
The Weekly Upload breaks down Gicarri Harris' recruitment, weekend football visitors and options at outside linebacker.

Will Gicarri Harris round out the class of 2024 for Matt Painter?
The early signing period for both men's and women's basketball is currently open and Matt Painter signed one of his best classes as Purdue's head coach. The Boilermakers officially inked five recruits, Kanon Catchings, Raleigh Burgess, Daniel Jacobsen, Jack Benter and CJ Cox, holding the 8th-best recruiting class in the country, per Rivals.

Football visitors this weekend:
Ryan Walters and the Boilermakers are set to host PJ Fleck and the Golden Gophers on Saturday afternoon in Ross-Ade Stadium for the first home game in almost a month. Along with them will be 45 prospects coming to check out West Lafayette this weekend.Headlining the visitors is a pair of in-state defenders that are at the top of Purdue's board in the class of 2025, four-stars Mariyon Dye and Damien Shanklin. Dye has seen his stock skyrocket over the last few months, adding offers from the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Jaylin Jones decommits, who is Purdue targeting to replace him?
2024 three-star outside linebacker Jaylin Jones decommitted from Purdue this week, which was a decision none too surprising as there were always questions surrounding whether or not he'd actually end up in West Lafayette.

Pair of 2024 offensive linemen set official visits:
Last Friday, the Weekly Upload touched on Purdue's pursuit of 2024 offensive linemen, particularly from the JUCO ranks. One of those prospects now has his official visit locked in with the Boilermakers, Rod Green.Green will be on campus for the Indiana game at the end of the month for that visit.
