Trey is making his decision on October 30th

I had a drink, then I had a dream, .... then I went and bought champagne ... I'm going with the loosiers who say it's a done deal ....

Well over on the toothless hillbilly site the Kaufman thread has devolved into a family feud over Lil Archie's future and relative success. I did learn from Courtnonsense that IU made the dance last season. I guess that means everybody made the dance.
Well, they did win the BT Tournament last year, since they did beat Nebraska before everything got shut down, so they must have gotten an automatic bid.

Just a visitor here but it seems some of the IU insiders (take that FWIW, clearly) seem to be confident in some things they have heard. Just passing along. Those guys range from couch potatoes to actual coaches and probably something between. IDK. Just passing along.

The only people that know what is going on is the recruit and his family. Everyone else, on both sides, is just guessing.

it always does. Went 4 pages with civil discussion. Someone even commented how nice it was to actually have such a discussion...then the thread went sideways and went down the same path many others have over the past year. That's why I don't post much over there anymore. It's just a matter of time before every good thread blows up into name calling and questioning each other's IQ and hoosier pedigree. Boring and overplayed.

If it is true as Brian has stated that Trey has shut down recruiting contacts recently, why would anything if different today than a couple of days ago NOW be new info that would make someone more confident like IU insiders or coaches? I'm not saying it is not true, just trying to understand a change when all contact was shut down...and if Brian got that wrong...why would he have bad info? That never cost anyone anything by saying recruiting contact was shut down and no reason for that not to be true.

I wish I could have dialog with B-Westy discussing the clock he posted, but no private messages are allowed to him and so we wait a couple of days for the announcement. ;)

I noticed that. Goes against all the recent conventional wisdom. Someone's prediction rating is going to take a hit this weekend.

Peegs actually revised it during the chat last night, based on phone calls and events that happened throughout the day yesterday. Rabs did interview TK yesterday, and after a day of talking to people very close to the situation determined that the only people who knew the answer were Trey and his mom, and that was not where the pro-Purdue chatter was emanating from...

Rabs put his odds at IU 50 and PU 40, with UVA 8 and UNC 2. He said that he's pretty sure Trey has known his decision for about a week and told no one, and he seems very happy with his choice. I know that KC has a different take, which may be due to the push from his Uncle (Matt Renn). People on Peegs who have direct connections to the SC team say that none of the players/coaches know

Snow did post yesterday that a source who had been convinced it was Purdue texted him yesterday to say he now felt IU, but Snow also said he (Snow) really didn't know. I know the Snow post was reported on KC yesterday, and no doubt the chat info found its way there as well. So it would be interesting to see the result when the 2 opinions clash because Brian has been adamant he's going to be a Boiler.

As an aside, there is a fake "Brian Snow" twitter post making the rounds, which utilizes Snow's headings from a post he made yesterday asking "Where do IU and UI go after losing Hopkins"? (to UK).

This one says "Where do IU and Virginia go after losing Kaufman"- but the pic of Kaufman is photoshopped over the image of Mason Miller that Snow used in his original story...

Trey didn't shut down all contact, though. He did an interview with Rabjohns yesterday. It's possible something from that interview upped the confidence level of the Peegs reporters.
He shut down calls from coaches, which is different than doing an interview with a fanboy.

same thing gets done here. Just watch what happens if we don't land him and a couple people come out of the woodwork and destroy the board.

Wonder if that is the same source I heard from? Have an acquaintance with ties to both IU and Purdue as well as the AAU circuit whom I texted Friday once word started to come out that Kaufman was heading to Purdue. Friday he was fairly convinced it was Purdue and then walked it back on Sunday. He said gun to his head he still leans Purdue but really thinks it's an absolute toss up at this point. Kaufman and co have been so tight-lipped during the process to the point where I find it admirable.

It is impressive in this day and age to be this quite about it. Only tell for me is the interview with Rabjohns.

At the end of the day I won't be surprised if it is IU. The combination of immediate playing time, playing with friends, and being close to home is tough to overcome.

I do think Purdue has the edge on overall development and program fit . Skilled 4s like Hummel and Edwards have thrived in Painter's system. Kaufman is ranked better than both. There is not a clear path to playing time as a Freshman like at IU, but competition with Wheeler, Gillis, and Furst day in and out will make him better (still can obviously beat those guys out as a Freshman and can also play together depending on matchups, just not a given for major early PT like at IU). His soph and Jr years could be All-American level on some potentially great teams.

Anyways, I'm just going to wait until Friday and stop reading too much into everyone's speculation. I learned my lesson of getting too excited when Jaren Jackson was getting crystal balls for Purdue a few days before he announced. Good luck to Trey and his family as they make this decision.

true...the moment the tea leaves started reading Purdue (a few days ago) the TK announcement post on IU Rivals blew up. So yeah, the moment potential bad news comes to the surface, the 'fire coach xyz/toldya so' crowd appears and the thread falls into the abyss.

I guess I don’t see a playing time issue. Wheeler is gone and Gillis is a 3/4 type just like him. If he wants it, he can get his minutes. Playing time isn’t usually the issue for elite guys, if it was Duke et al wouldn’t get 5* kids all the time.

Just my 2 ¢

I still feel like it’s PU but I do feel better since Pegram upped his confidence. I’d be happy with Miller and Mohammed as well though as I’ve said before. Kaufman is a 1 or 2 and done where Miller is most likely a 4 year kid. I just think Kaufman is underrated and won’t be in college long but we’ll see.

Supposedly, there's light at the bottom if you "survive" the trip......

Miller would be a small consolation prize compared to Kaufman.
I don’t know about small as he’s a good player and would most likely stick around g F or 4 years. I really hope we get both and Mohammed. The g league is where Mohammed goes if it’s not IU, most likely.

Wheeler will be a RS-senior when Kaufman is a freshman and Gillis will be a RS-Sophomore
