I'll buy that!Chesney...14 yrs coaching experience...only making 550 k a yr...2nd time watching Jmu play ...innovative offense...Jmu ain't skipping a beat with Cignetti gone. Been a winner every where he's coached.
A big No!!Heard they are maybe going to be looking at both Heltons. Tyson again and this time Clay. Not sure how I feel about that
Chesney is certainly interesting, he has done a lot of winning as a head coach and still is relatively young and seems like he could recruit. But he’s not an offensive guy so that rules him out according to everyone hereI'll buy that!
I like Brent Vigen. Spent his whole life in North Dakota, so a little adversity won’t scare him off.Brent Vigen - HC Montana State. Longtime offensive coordinator for Craig Bohl at NDSU & WYO. Current salary around 215k.

I don't see these guys going into FL and TX and connecting with the type of talent we need at the skill positions. I can't imagine the recruiting battles in North Dakota are very intense.I like Brent Vigen. Spent his whole life in North Dakota, so a little adversity won’t scare him off.

Recruiting battles = bidding wars. It’s more about who can maximize the players we can afford than who is the best “recruiter”.I don't see these guys going into FL and TX and connecting with the type of talent we need at the skill positions. It's also about who can help get a guy to the next level. Not a lot of that going on at Montana or in the Dakotas. Those may be winning programs with strong traditions, etc, but they're not in the same game as a P5 program from any aspect.Recruiting battles = bidding wars. I'll take guys at Purdue all day long who are just a shy below being recruited by FL, FSU, UM, TX, TAM, etc. or those teams liked them but didn't have a spot.Exactly. I like coaches who have connections in FL/TX. I can remember when Purdue had a lot of success with 3-stars from the “football belt”.
I remember the old saying that a 3-star recruit from Florida is equal to a 4-star recruit from Indiana.

Ever heard of Chris Kleiman? It's also about who can help get a guy to the next level. Not a lot of that going on at Montana or in the Dakotas. Those may be winning programs with strong traditions, etc, but they're not in the same game as a P5 program from any aspect.
Helped build NDSU into the powerhouse/dynasty they are. Offensive coach currently averaging 11 wins per/yr. Developed a guy named Josh Allen. Has a system and recruits to it. But...I like Brent Vigen. Spent his whole life in North Dakota, so a little adversity won’t scare him off.

Is that any bigger jump than what Cignetti made? If our NIL situation is as dire as Walters claims, we may need a “do more with less” guy.Helped build NDSU into the powerhouse/dynasty they are. FCS to BIG is a huge jump. Not impossible, but probably needs to prove it at a FBS school before a job like Purdue. Rumored to be in the running for the Fresno State job.
It is a huge jump, but probably not as big of a gamble as hiring a guy whose resume consisted of 3-4 years as a DC at Missouri and Illinois.Helped build NDSU into the powerhouse/dynasty they are. It's not, but 13 years versus 4 as HC is notable. Agree that we need a "do more with less" guy. I'd value someone who has built up a program, sustained it, and develops players instead of trying to outbid others constantly. If Purdue is at the low end of the BIG in NIL, and it's going to stay there, then get a coach that values toughness, discipline and can actually identify talent that fits their system. I like Vigen and Monken for this reason. Every hire is a gamble, but the last Purdue hire was inexcusable from an AD who remarked at his last press conference about "being in the business for 40 years" or something alike. It is a huge jump, but probably not as big of a gamble as hiring a guy whose resume consisted of 3-4 years as a DC at Missouri and Illinois.
Agree with all. The Walters hire seemed like the opposite of what might work, to anyone who’s followed the program for 40-50 years. It's not, but 13 years versus 4 as HC is notable. Maybe Bobo watched that Seinfeld where George does everything the opposite a day or two before he hired Walters.Agree with all. The Walters hire seemed like the opposite of what might work, to anyone who’s followed the program for 40-50 years.
