Odom is no les miles, that’s for sure.It would be nice, but it's going to be very hard to do. Can't see the current coach winning more than seven or eight a year and most likely 6 will be the benchmark.
At Maryland will be tough. It was one of the closer games in Bloomington this year and big ten road wins are hard to come by. Maryland looks improved doing very good in the transfer portal and many starters returning. And I know indiana won’t want to hear this or will probably argue, but hemby was losing his starting spot to freshman ray so Maryland has the edge on indiana there.IUFB will be fine in 2025. There are "maybe" three games IU could lose - at Iowa, at Oregon, and at Penn State. So, 9-3 or 10-2 (not including a bowl game) will certainly not be "back to reality", and the bucket will stay in Bloomington.
Also just looking at wisconsin I would say that is a game indiana could lose. They seemed to upgrade at a lot of positions already.IUFB will be fine in 2025. Illinois is a pretty tough game for IU too. Also just looking at wisconsin I would say that is a game indiana could lose. They seemed to upgrade at a lot of positions already.
IU sos was 57 before the ND game which is about right in the middle of of total D-1 teamsSo, by your theory, they'll win all those games and then likely fall flat when it counts most. I know you guys know this, but ND was the better team and now owns the state. Every team is going to get better if they're willing to spend money and it appears that PU is finally in that group.
Cig had the easiest schedule he could have for a first-year coach, and that will be different next year.
I'd say there are 10 winnable games on the schedule in eyes. I said the same about this year as well and we won all 10 plus Michigan. Next year I don't see us beating Penn State or Oregon and that's perfectly fine with me. Iowa is a who knows because you never know what Iowa will be year to year. I think Illinois is the 3rd best on the schedule and that'll be a really tough game. Maryland could be tough but their coach sucks. Wisconsin is a mystery as well. I think saying 7-10 wins is realistic.Illinois is a pretty tough game for IU too.
Projecting 8-10 wins for any B1G team that’s not OSU is shaky territory.

Wisconsin upgraded at QB and has the highest portal ranking in the big ten. 7-10 is fair given there are 3 gimmies in non-con. But I think they are just as likely to win 5 games as 10. Remember 2021? You lose the young offensive mind after an old coach gets lucky on an easy schedule the prior year… and went 0-9 in big ten.I'd say there are 10 winnable games on the schedule in eyes. True, a slide is possible but it’s kinda apples and oranges to the Allen era.Wisconsin upgraded at QB and has the highest portal ranking in the big ten. 7-10 is fair given there are 3 gimmies in non-con. He does have a a record of success as a P5/P2 head coach. And it’s not the number of coaches retained it’s the impact. Sunseri was iu’s qb whisperer and rourke credited him with his improvement. He’s the young rising coach who is now a full OC. Sound familiar? This is exactly what happened with DeBoer…True, a slide is possible but it’s kinda apples and oranges to the Allen era.
The only assistant leaving is the qb coach—Nine out of ten assistants return including both coordinators, and all three 1st team all-conference players return and lots of other starters. And unlike Allen, Cig has a long proven track record of success as a head coach.
Except Sunseri was replaced with a good one. DeBoer got replaced and Indiana had the COVID year without him. Then it went downhill as Womack also left as DC and went to be the HC at South Alabama. Allen then hired a god awful DC from Georgia and then Walt Bell the season after. He does have a a record of success as a P5/P2 head coach. And it’s not the number of coaches retained it’s the impact. Mendoza is a talented QB but won’t be on any preseason all conference lists. He was rated lower than even Hudson card last year on some lists The strong offense last year was led by him, its a huge loss. Are you suggesting cooper is your 2nd best WR? I’m not an iu fan but even I know better than that. Where was he in the championship game? Never had more than 4 catches in a game. He made a lot of big plays but that was more rourke.DeBoer was the offensive coordinator, not an assistant.
I’m not doubting that Tino is a good qb coach, but he has only been with Cig for three years; Shannan has been with him for nine years and they’ve had all-conference QBs multiple times before Tino.
To think that Mendoza will be a significant step back from Rourke isn’t realistic; both starting WRs are back four of five linemen that were starters at the beginning of last year are back, they finally have pass catching RBs, and Mendoza was really proven and accurate in the ACC.
The schedule is way way tougher, but everything else lines up.
Mendoza has some talent. Not sure what kind of talent or coaching was at Cal though. He still threw for 3000 yards. As for WR, Indiana kinda did it by committee outside of Sarratt who was the only real star. Same goes for RB. OLine is what needs bolstered the absolute most. Need some big boys to protect and open up the running holes. OLine was okayish.Mendoza is a talented QB but won’t be on any preseason all conference lists. How do you have 4 returning OL? Katic, Wedig, and Stephens are out of eligibility.

You were including Kidwell? The guy who hasn’t played since like September 2023 due to injuries?OLine definitely needs more-currently counting on two guys that ended the year injured. Carter Smith, Nick Kidwell, Drew Evans, Bray Lynch return, but Evans and Kidwell need to get healthy.
To me KeyShawn Williams was the second best wr; they need a slot guy. But they also just picked the star wr from App St. Him, Sarrat, and Cooper are a great outside group.
Completely fair in that it's the biggest question mark position group for the upcoming year. You were including Kidwell? The guy who hasn’t played since like September 2023 due to injuries?
Indiana does have a good OLine coach and I don’t expect they will suffer much of a drop. But like Rourke they made a pedestrian RB room and mediocre WRs look really good last year. Indiana scored 3 offensive TDs excluding garbage time in the 3 games they played against teams with winning records and much of that was Rourkes precision. Could be a mediocre offensive next year like Californias was with Mendoza.
Envy will continue to eat you up. 63-7, 63-14, 66-0, 66-6. Oh and 63-58.Yet another clown pants wearing loosier seeking approval on a Purdue forum.

I do think they will be a good team in 2025 but I would put set O/U at 8 wins.Who gives a shit about IU. They paid their coach and now he can coast into retirement. Enjoy your one season of zero memorable wins. Zero trophies and nothing to show for it.
IU was fleeced and it will show itself soon.
Save this post. 2 years from now purdue will be stomping on IU and they will be looking to take ole cign to pasture.
100% -- recruiting is going to have to rise program-wide to sustain. The resources are there for top tier recruiting in the NIL era.I do think they will be a good team in 2025 but I would put set O/U at 8 wins.
I think in 2026 reality will start to set in when they have to play OSU and USC at home and get to the 6-7 win mark again, but probably better than Purdue.
I would circle 2027 as the oh crap moment for indiana. They have 6 losable road games plus Michigan and PSU at home. All of the JMU transfers plus Mendoza will have phased out and indiana will be counting on recruiting and portal for which indiana is currently 13-15th in big ten in recruiting and 10th in transfer portal in big ten.
Burn brightly? Thanks for the laugh.100% -- recruiting is going to have to rise program-wide to sustain. The resources are there for top tier recruiting in the NIL era.
It's an interesting organizational model; instead of trying to build from the bottom up, IU is trying to burn brightly with portal acquisitions and use that as leverage to increase the donations, recruiting budget, facilities, and program profile. Given how absolutely awful IU football has been historically, it seems like this is the only model that has a chance.
Glad to fix it for you:Burn brightly? Thanks for the laugh.
Is that replacing 'love each other'?
I don’t see how this is sustainable. Rosters are going to be 105 students and I think it is safe to assume you will need 30 new players each year between the portal and high school kids. Indiana has 8 portal commits right now, 2 are special teams, so 6 guys to backfill about 20 openings on the 2 deeps. You HAVE to develop your high school kids and then you can supplement with transfers. Exceptions would be first year or maybe two when you get a new coach and he brings the system and culture with them. I do think indiana can be a 4-8 win team with their strategy depending on how many cupcakes they schedule. But I don’t see any recruits they have that have a good chance of being all conference type players. I’m not saying they can’t but the laws of averages will play out and indiana will settle into a below average big ten team if they do not prioritize developing high school kids.100% -- recruiting is going to have to rise program-wide to sustain. But it's only workable if the staff puts kids in the NFL. The level of portal talent isn't all that high - they've grabbed small school production over ranking and potential. But pretty soon IU will need a bunch of in-house kids to win jobs on the field.
Contrary to what some at IU have recently stated, Indiana is not a prime state for high school football. And with ND, UM, and Ohio State on the doorstep, it is that much harder to keep the top local kids at either Purdue or IU.I don’t see how this is sustainable. So you will be happy with 3 wins after the usual 3 pre-btn cupcakes?Contrary to what some at IU have recently stated, Indiana is not a prime state for high school football. And with ND, UM, and Ohio State on the doorstep, it is that much harder to keep the top local kids at either Purdue or IU.
So it's gonna be really difficult to sustain.
The "proven-successful portal gets from smaller schools" strategy may be the best path to fairly consistent respectability. A consistent top 25 program? That's a tall order without talented high school kids, and that level of high school recruiting has not happened yet; may not ever happen. If it did that would be really impressive, but any IU (or Purdue) football fan that wouldn't be damn happy with 6 to 9 wins per year, from any method is fooling themselves.
Happy? Not for next year after the past year. But if six wins or more annually is the program floor for the 135 year train wreck known as IU Football? That would be great. So you will be happy with 3 wins after the usual 3 pre-btn cupcakes?
I doubt that, katjm23.
