Sampson James

Our class is still better now and will finish better too. Karlaftis >> Robbins. Hunter >> Robbins. Grant >> Tracy.

IU has had a tendency of losing higher-ranked players before signing day.

1 final month decommit in the last 5 classes... quite the tendency.

I happen to know the middle linebacker from a team that played Avon earlier this year. I asked him about James after the game. I asked, "Is he Ohio State good." His response, "No. He was actually kind of soft. There was one play early in the first quarter where I was one on one with him on a sweep and I thought for sure I was going to get trucked. I was able to tackle him with ease - he went down really easy. The rest of the game was the same." FWIW - the linebacker in question is a good player but probably not D1...at least not P5 D1.
Heard he had an ankle sprain for awhile.

I wouldn’t say significantly but our class is better especially at the top.

I think most IU fans would agree with this. Avg. commit rating on the composite is .8595 for PU and .8548 for IU. Remove the specialists on each (P for PU, LS for IU) and they are .8614 and .8612... Not a ton of separation.

Karlaftis the obvious outlier to the upside for PU... IU has no kid of that caliber in this class.

PU is 4 recruits ahead in the cycle right now though, so a lot still TBD on where IUs average will end up.

Congratulations. It’s not signing day yet. Also which class has the higher star rating to date? Quantity doesn’t always outclass quality.
It’s awfully rich for Loosiers to be crowing about how great they are on a Purdue board.

Sorry, but the facts don’t look kindly on IU.

All-time head-to-head
Purdue 72 IU 41 Tie 6

IU all-time record
479-672-44 .419 (one of the worst P5 records)
Bowl Record: 3-8
Conference Championships: 2

Purdue all-time record
608-560-48 .520
Bowl Record: 10-8
Conference Championships: 12

IU sucks in FB. We have a much better history than IU. We have a much better coach than IU.

What will you say if Purdue gets 4* WR David Bell, 4* WR Milton Wright, 4* DT Ben Smiley, or 4* DE JJ Weaver.

As IU swoons as IU always does, the good recruits will reconsider their verbals to IU. They will get poached by a better program.

I will say what is supported by that facts, like I just did...?

And the 2nd paragraph is fan fiction not supported by anything really (like the majority of your posts).. IU has closed very well in the past few classes, with virtually no late decommitments.

edit: still waiting on your link to your claim that OSU cooled on James (more fan fiction I presume)

Why would any good player choose to decommit from OSU and then immediately verbal to IU? OSU cooled on him and they are pursuing other highly-touted RBs.

So Purdue doesn’t own IU historically in FB? IU doesn’t have one of the all-time worst records in college football? IU hasn’t only won 2 league championships in FB and hasn’t only won 3 of 11 bowl games? You’re saying IU has won a bowl game since 1991? IU has had a winning season since 2007?

IU FB is pathetic and it’s even more pathetic that you’re on our board crowing about your mighty Loosiers.

Soo.. fan fiction, as predicted. Every credible piece of coverage on the subject has been that OSU was disappointed and surprised. The kid wanted playing time and saw an opportunity. I am sure OSU will be fine but it doesn't appear he was pushed out no matter how badly you want it to be true.

I’d expect this to happen more. Even a few years ago coaches could paint a rosy picture of their depth chart at power programs. Now with not only the internet but social media in general .. it’s harder.

Rivals #5 Beau Robbins may be a 4 star, but was not good enough for any major programs (their best offer is probably MSU). #6 Larry Tracy best was Iowa. #7 is Britt who blew out his knee and went to Iowa. #8 has offers from OSU, Wisky, MSU, and Iowa... those teams must be idiots for not checking the Rivals Indiana state rankings should have known the others were better TIC. There are a lot of reasons coaches offer and a lot of reasons why recruits commit. Recruiting rankings are fun for us message board lurkers and collectively may be able to be a basis for overall grading a class but have little value to the coaching staff of football programs.

Read 'em and weep, moron. IU all-time bowl record is 3-8. Last bowl game win for IU was in 1991 - 27 years ago. You must be proud of that incredible tradition.

Iowa stopped recruiting Tracy.

If Iowa and Purdue stopped recruiting him his best offer was Minnesota. It will be interesting how the player rankings will shake out by the end of the year. Are there really about a dozen players better than Kizer in Indiana?

Wright might be trending our way...Wiltfong thinks so. We might have a big November! BTFU!!

I’m sure Brohm is interested in James. We have a nice recruiting class coming in and honestly when I look at classes for us, you guys, Illinois, Minnesota... you really are the appeal of the big ten dollars in the arms race and the impact of BTN. You guys are gonna get recruits that aren’t going to pitt over lower tier big ten teams. We are gonna get recruits that aren’t going to cincy (these schools are just examples). Minnesota is gonna get kids who would never pick Iowa State over any big ten team save Rutgers in their sorry state. Illinois is gonna get kids who aren’t going to Kansas anymore..

You take the four schools and I believe Teddy KGB said it best when it comes to our recruiting:

(“It’s a new day, and you vont be pushed around”)

It’s not 2005. It’s not like if we get x recruit and Illinois gets these guys you guys are left with MAC guys and vice versa...

I haven't read the rest of the thread (follow up posts), but I need an interpreter on this one.

Hunk, you piqued my curiosity. Is this kid out with an injury now?

edit: If it's the kid I'm thinking of, by the time he's finished his HS eligibility he could be a solid D1 player. Maybe even with a P5 offer. His team did a job on James in that game.

Could be.

Or a post written poorly as h*ll . . .

I missed the part of the terms of service where sister Gertrude came back from the fifth grade to tell me that grammar and essay quality will be scrutinized in my posts. Sorry. Let me call St. Agnes.

Let me put it in simple terms for you big guy-

you said, and I quote, "You’re saying IU has won a bowl game since 1991?"

now please provide a link to where I said that. Childish, but not entirely unexpected when you desperately need to move the conversation away from your made-up claims regarding Sampson James.

Beau Robbins was pretty much an IU lock from jump. He certainly is good enough for P5 but IU is a good fit. Don’t think he will be an all conference type player, but he will be a starter eventually.

Larry Tracy is a monster. He is very strong and very good. He absolutely should be in the conversation for top five players in Indiana and is in the voting to make the underarmor game. Same with Robbins and Kirtz.

Larry Tracy is a program changer for IU. He is recruiting hard and everybody likes him. He is kind of like what his cousin was for Iowa. I really wanted him at Purdue, but Beverly and Allen are both just incredible athletes that fit what Holt does. I don’t know if Tracy will be a great corner or not, but he Is the kind of guy you want on your team.

IU does not have a bad recruit class. They have a few players I wanted to see at Purdue and they are still in the final group for a few others I would like to see at Purdue. IU has been a pretty solid defensive class.

Would I trade it for Purdue’s class? No way. If Purdue can land a couple of their remaining targets they will have one heck of a class. But for previous IU standards they are putting together a fantastic class. Can they keep them? I don’t know. But bashing IU’s class is kind of silly. It’s far better than anything The Haze ever landed.

Sampson will be a GREAT Hoosier and follow in the steps of great Hoosier running backs. These kids know that the Indiana coach will actually be around for their careers. He won't jump on the next best thing out of town like JB probably will do.

Indiana now has 3 out of the top 6 in state players committed...and we will pass you up in the rankings. Truth is, we are actually ahead of you already in the overall star ranking...that's the biggie, the one that actually matters the most. We stand at 3.06, you people are behind us at 2.95!!!

Big things are in store for the Hoosiers...

IU ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

Want to bet whether Purdue or IU will end up with more 4* players this season? Want to bet whether Purdue or IU will finish higher in the recruiting rankings this year? I wouldn’t trade our class for IU’s EVER. We have a better program now and will have a better program years from now. You have a glorified HS coach who acts like seal clapping on the sidelines.

Purdue 72 IU 41 Tie 6

IU hasn’t won a bowl game in 27 years. IU hasn’t won a league or division title since 1967. IU’s all-time record is nearly 200 games below .500. IU hasn’t had a winning season since 2007. Face it, IU football sucks.

OSU backed off on James just like Iowa and Purdue backed off of Tracy.

Lol. Allen isn't going anywhere because no other schools will try to poach him. And you will not pass us in the rankings either. The top of our class is better by a decent margin and will get better as we finish the class with some studs as we are still in on David Bell, Milton Wright, JJ Weaver, Jalen Graham, and Ben Smiley who are all highly ranked. Which studs are you still in on? Let me guess... You think you guys have a legit shot at David Bell right? haha

Look, our class is better than your class RIGHT NOW...I'm not surprised that you wouldn't trade your class, I wouldn't trade our class for yours, it's mutual.

Pay attention to the star ranking, IU is clearly ahead of Purdue. We stand at 3.06 on the star grade, you guys are in the 2.9 range.

OSU backed off on James just like Iowa and Purdue backed off of Tracy.
LMFAO, oh, ok. Urban was PISSED off totally when this went down on Sunday night!!! He clearly got trumped by Tom Allen and the Indiana recruiting team. Ohio State wanted this kid desperately, he could move to a 5* once they evaluate him again.

If anything, I think he’d move down. He hasn’t had a great senior year.

That difference is minimal and will be different once the dust settles. Again, which high-end targets are you still in on? Purdue is in on 4 or 5 4* guys that would boost the class. Is IU?

Sorry, but your glorified HS coach doesn’t beat Urban Meyer at anything. James is likely to move DOWN in the rankings, not up. He’s not had as good of a SR season as his JR season.
