Names to consider for our next football coach?

Matt Campbell, Iowa State.

Will only be 45 years old at season’s end. Has demonstrated real loyalty to ISU (not a job hopper always looking for a bigger opportunity). Other than one or two down seasons, has consistently won and has defeated Big Ten schools more often than not with fewer resources and prestige. Is a Midwest guy having coached at a land grant university for the last nine seasons. Team is 7-2 so far this season.

Most importantly, he has extensive head coaching experience and could bring most if not all of his staff with him. At least at Purdue during my lifetime, head coaching experience for more than five years and bringing staff with you have been the only times that Purdue has won in football.

A jump to the Big Ten with greater compensation for him and his staff, more resources, more tradition, and more academic prestige could be appealing to him.

Yes! He is on my short list. Good OL coach if I’m not mistaken too.

Purdue is not cursed and it's not at some mythical disadvantage.
Yeh, we're not OSU, PSU or UM, but NIL and the portal have leveled the playing field and if you get creative, you can compete with those programs.
The expectations at Purdue should be similar to Iowa and Wis.

I actually think the expectations at Minn are pretty low. Their FB program doesn't really have an indentity. At least people still associate Purdue with QBs and offense (at least, up until recently).

Agree with this. You can pull down a top 25 salary here and expectations are far more reasonable than most jobs.

Just asking because the suggestions you get on this are largely due to how the person views the job.

He could not have said that in a serious way. There's no way that has ever happened in the modern era. You can stay but you must fire literally every other coach on your staff and start from scratch? No way.

Huge difference in buyouts there. $9 mil per for 7 years is a lot different than $9mil total over 3!

I can’t believe we would bring Walters back for anything short of him having blackmail over the entire athletic department. Somebody needs to shake some sense into them…and soon.

The 2023 purdue assistant pool was 5.5m (would have been 4.6 under brohm) and up from 3.64 in 2022. Indiana was 5.86 this year. We still have to pay harrells $1m salary next year but if they fire Walters he only gets $250k. Are we just going to continue to throw good money to save bad money. Aren’t we better off just paying $8.5m (took off Harrell savings) over 3 years.

I think Purdue has a number of advantages over Minny in terms of location, fan support, program reputation (there's a lot to unpack with that one), etc. Plus, you have Tim Walz up there, so that doesn't help either.

It’s the shortsighted approach of BoBo and company that they don’t see any way that Purdue could be left behind by the coming super conference structure. As we move closer to 2030 with the next round of tv contracts being negotiated expect there to be scrutiny from the all parties on which teams add value, serve as useful opponents for the big names, and those who are free riders. Purdue football has flirted with being a useful other a few times in the past 40 years (1997-2004; portions of 2017-22). However we are firmly in the free rider category now where we bring little to no value to the tv deal in football. Don’t expect that the brand of “but we started the B1G” is enough unless we’re winning and competitive. So invest now or be left behind in a few years, I’m not even sure the Big 12 would want us right now.

Understood and agree. Bobinski already has said it’s not about the money and I believe it. My point was just saying it’s not a good argument so let’s not make money a factor. We 1,5 years of harrells contact and surely we have no problem doing the same for a good assistant coach.
