What happens to our program, if Walters does not end up getting let go this year?

I'm not sure there is consistent improvement.

Lost 52-6 to Wisconsin.
Then lost 50-49 to Illinois. That's improvement.
But then lost 35-0 to Oregon.
So maybe he feels they should have lost 60-0 to Oregon, so 35-0 is improvement?
I don’t count the Illinois game. Obvious outlier due to :
Walters knowing what offense works against his scheme
Element of surprise with Browne

Zero improvement. Towards the bottom of the big ten in offensive stats and at the very bottom for defense which is funny cause we hired a defensive guru. Anyone can come in here and get their tits blown off by Oregon, ND and Wisconsin.

Posted this once before, but this clearly is how Bobo is thinking:

The factors of $ aren’t close.

People should also prepare that Brees’ kids will prob land at Texas or LSU and not here.
Yeah, his estimated net worth of $160 million is a lot (I'd certainly be happy with that), but we're talking about people with ten times that wealth, if not more.

I am actually hoping Indiana beats us 77 to 0 and then the decision will be clear!
This is the only year that I don’t want to beat IU. I have never said that before or even thought I would make that statement. We beat IU and Walters is going to use that as ammo that the team is starting to buy in and he is the right choice to right the ship.

If he’s still around for the IU game, then we need to start higher up the chain with the terminations…

Agreed.

We will see what the commitment to football is…

Or if the AD buys the line that a few million more bucks into the program gets everybody finally lining up and tackling correctly.

Are we thinking maybe the AD has been waiting for the NW game as the last chance to prove he can turn it around?

Purdue will not spend the money on football to fire a coach and hire a new one. This could be a tempting job, given expectations are low and no real record to follow.

That’s not true. It’s not a bulk buyout. That money is a sunk cost already and we save 25% by cutting the cord ASAP.

There’s far more $ at stake with ticket revenue, concessions, etc. if we do t let him go and can’t fill RA. Any AD worth their salt would make the change. That’s the real question to me. It’s not about $, it’s how committed do you want to be to this coach?

$9mil over a timeframe you’re likely to bring in about $200mil from the program if you maximize revenue opportunity - that’s nothing.

Let's say the AD doesn't want to fire/buyout Walters and he stays. Who do you think he will target to bring in to be OC? And what other positional coaches should be evaluated?

OC wouldn’t be anybody established…who that’s good is going to hitch their wagon to a guy who may only be around 1 more year?

Would just have to snag an “up and comer” and hope he’s good.

WR coach should get fired. DC won’t get let go as he’s running what he’s being told to run.

And good luck finding a decent OC candidate willing to take a 1 year contract, which is almost assuredly what will be offered.

So didn't think this warranted another new thread and sorta fits here.. if we lose tomorrow, does CRW make it to monday as the HC?
If we have a smart enough replacement coach on hand which we apparently don't since no parts of the team are working right now. Plus it would make the AD look bad and we certainly don't want that.

Why do you even ask? Walters is not going anywhere and there is nobody on his current staff who is able to step up to be the interim coach. And no coach outside Purdue is going to be signed to coach a partial season.

How about instead of berating posters, you use the mind you were given to do some logical thinking?

Are you serious,....there are coaches out there that can atleast not make us a laughing stock.... We will never be a top tier big ten team....but damn we can find somebody to make us competitive in games and give us a 7-5 type program
There are coaches out there. But do they really want to come to Purdue?

The big 10 did not give Purdue any favors by adding usc, ucla, Oregon and Washington. Looking in the future, if the big 10 adds more teams, they are not going to be weaker than Purdue. So the chances Purdue will improve their team record in the future is very slim unless they add three patsies to their non conference schedule.

Sure, it’s nice to hope that a new coach will make all the difference. It’s another thing to actually find that coach!

Do some thinking. Do you actually believe Walters was Bobo’s first choice? I don’t. My thoughts are that Walters was the best coach BOBO could find willing to take the job. In replacing Walters, I believe the choices will be similar.

Or we just need to get a stupid rich alum who can elevate us. Oregon was not an elite program until Phil knight fixed that.
On the norm, Purdue alumni are intelligent not stupid. And giving money to a NIL is not a very intelligent or profitable decision or return on your investment unless you sell used cars!

I have no idea. He complains about being frequently called out/called names/etc and no one takes him seriously and nothing more than the site's court jester.

I honest to God feel bad for him and pity him to a degree. He can't keep his lies straight anymore as there have been so many and then complains when called out.

I'll end up putting him on ignore here once bball season starts most likely as while it's hilarious to watch him post things about Painter and how he should be doing things, yet he couldn't "coach" a Y rec team to a win. He's like Henry Winkler in Water Boy .. minus the "coaching for dummies" book.

Anyway back on topic (and I admit my part in derailing this thread some), I am still stunned Walters isn't fired. As others have said this is just gross incompetence on the part of the AD.
Talking about lies…………. I have been a painter supporter for the last decade! You say I say stuff, but you never show any of my posts! All you do is make things you say I’ve said.

I don’t lie. Sometimes I confuse the spelling of names. If I am wrong, I also admit it.

I also speculate and use my brain which is something very few of the posters here do! Many of you totally believe everything you read and see on the internet as the godlike truth . And that a coach and politician would never lie to the media or the press! Do you truly believe a coach is going to be totally truthful in his press conferences? Or that he is going to reveal everything he knows ? There is a thread above that Penn state is recruiting a Purdue commitment. Do you truly believe Walters is going to be truthful about all he knows about the recruit or the situation?

With regards to Painter, I did say he likes to have a guard at the 3 rather than a small forward. And it appears Harris is the leading candidate for that position. I also speculated that was a prime factor in Catchings decision to go elsewhere. I speculated Catchings didn’t want to come off the bench to play behind Tkr at the 4. And despite what the majority of you said, it looks like Tkr will play a lot more at the 4 than center! I’ll ask the question, do you truly believe painter would reveal the truth involving Catchings’ decision? Or would he just use his basic coach speak and wish him well?

As for bad mouthing others, I was stating facts. If this forum was moderated like other forums were moderated, several of you would be permanently banned based solely on your interactions with other posters. Several of you have bragged about being banned by perhaps IU board! You’re proud of it. You brag about it. Is being banned from a forum something to be proud of? I’ve posted on the IU board. I’ve never had a fear of being banned.

So when it comes to lying and misinformation, when you talk about my posts, I would prefer in the future you share the link and the context . Otherwise I will be led to believe it’s just more of your lies and misinformation.

Well I guess the world has changed. When a $4M HC job in the big ten with low expectations is not attractive. If you have 2 good years you get a $7M job somewhere else. As far as NIL, I live in the south now and people here are willing to spend a larger percentage of their incomes on college football. I get it that OSU has crazy NIL money, but the results don't match that way overspending.

I posted this info in another thread: The new TV deal is an epiphany for B1G schools like Purdue. There is a sea change in revenue for Big Ten schools. We can easily buy out Walters and pay top dollar for a coach that the ACC, Big XII and G6 cannot afford. Here are the ballpark numbers for B1G conference payout per school:

2022 - $26 million each

2023 - $60 million each

2024 - $80 to $100 million each

In theory we should have more alumni money than most schools since we have s many engineering graduates who earn wages far above the norm. Perhaps our weakness is Mega rich donors.

Which is why it’s past time to move on from BoBo, he’s well paid to have a deep network to pull from to fill these positions with qualified coaches … Walters is an embarrassment as a head coach and a new AD who can sell Purdue is needed. This is a good job, tv money, fan base that will whine on this board but packs the stadium in a 6 win season. Win a few games over .500 over a career here and pull off a few upset wins and we’ll name the stadium after you

Yeah I get it, but I would think we could let anyone run the team and not do any worse than we are now. What is the worse that can happen, we don't win another game? :)

Other sports don’t pay $#!7 ….. without football we can’t afford the overhead on the capital Burke & Bobo put in place.
Besides MBB, VB, diving and a random good golf season once in a while the other sports are average or below. Purdue doesn’t even field teams in many sports.

Even though I don't see how Purdue could not let Walters go after this season, because we are still going to be lucky to win 2 games, if we are that lucky. We have games where it looks like certain players are going through the motions in some games over the last 2 years. Purdue could still balk at the $9 buyout. They might say that we sold out almost every home game this year. That would obviously change next year.

If he stays, what happens to this program? Are we set back 2, 3, 4 years? Also, who are going to have to play next year in a tougher conference each year now? The best players like Klare are going to be big targets of other programs, like Nic Scourton was, and we are not going to get into a bidding war for players. We have lost almost all of our best recruits in this recruiting class, and I don't see any of them returning. Recruits are going to know that Walters could be gone at any time. Are we going to have a team worth of transfers that no one else wants?
As I just posted, as long as Walters is HC Purdue will always be on top, provided you turn the Big 10 standings upside down!

You’re going to be in a bidding war for good players regardless. At this point another year of Walters will just cost us butts in the stands which gets offset by the BIG profit sharing. Our leadership has no issue with people pointing to us being the laughing stock of the BIG in football. At some point it will be our undoing as football rules all and we can’t afford the overhead on all the other programs without the BIG money. Bottom line we need a new AD

There are some posters who think Purdue has the option to accept failure in football. No one in the P4 has that option. Produce or be fired, just like in real life. The idea that Walters can't be fired because no one else will take the job is insanity, and people pushing that idea should be mocked off the board.

To start with we bring in the one of the worst recruiting classes in the country and ticket sales will plummet.
