How much longer can the program go on like this? Today shows just how outmatched Purdue is athletically on the field. This is one of the most one-dimensional Gopher teams I have ever seen coming into Purdue and they just dominated today. Can Purdue even afford to let this staff coach the remainder of the season? This is unbelievable digression. This is the 4th QB under Hazell that comes into the game and gets worse and worse and worse. I can hardly believe how bad they are. I don't see how anyone can possibly think they are winning another game this year.
With all that said Hope defeated OSU twice in 3 years and lost to them in OT the 4th time. His teams were way more physical, much better prepared, and yet sadly in the worst way extremely mediocre, but light years ahead of Hazell. Hope was the lowest paid coach in the big ten. Hazell makes over 2 million per year and ranked just merely 7th in the big ten at the time of his hire. His assistant coaching staff makes over 2 million.
Interesting quotes below. How far they are from what happened. How did this happen?
“He’s got all the money he needs to go out and hire the best staff,” athletic director Morgan Burke said at Hazell’s introductory press conference.
Said Hazell: “I concur with that.”
The contract comes with a succinct message from Burke: The Cradle of Quarterbacks is about to start rocking again.
"We did it because we want to get back to Pasadena," Burke said.
Burke made no secret of what he was seeking in a new coach -- an offensive mind who could win right away and build enough support among the fan base to encourage fans to return to Ross-Ade Stadium. Attendance had declined from an average of roughly 54,000 in 2007 to 37,000 this past season.
