Free throw rate during the 4 game skid vs the first 24 games.

No idea how much of this is the refs (might be essentially none) or a change in how we are defending and are defended, but this is a pretty interesting shift:


First 24 games of the year:

Purdue free throw rate - 37.8 (56th nationally)
Purdue defensive free throw rate - 28.3 (67th nationally)


Last 4 games:

Purdue free throw rate - 25.1 (307th nationally)
Purdue defensive free throw rate - 43.3 (325th nationally)

Obviously some of that is having to foul late but we've really not intentionally fouled much in these 4 games. By my count, it's 16 out of 91 free throws shot by our opponents.

The one spot where I think we have adjusted is I think TKR has played softer defense in an effort to avoid fouls. We can dispute the relative value of that forever and not come to a firm conclusion.

Here is reality, the Big 18 didn't want a 3-peat and made sure it didn't happen. The Big 18 is a bureaucracy, most if not all bureaucracies are corrupt, therefore the Big 18 is corrupt, NCAA is too.

4 is a small sample size, but...Purdue played teams in this stretch with superior athletes and size with with no break for an easy game. They blow by Purdue on D and Purdue reaches or bangs into them for fouls. On offense they can stop Purdue easier with their superior size, length and atheleticism without fouling as much as some lesser teams. Sorry no conspiracy.

Purdue has been soft as hell in their reaction, but I think there’s more truth in this than anyone without a tinfoil hat on their head wants to acknowledge.

Not sure this argument holds up.

MSU is certainly athletic on the perimeter but I'm not sure any of the 4 are more athletic than many of the B1G teams we're already played. I'd say Oregon and Maryland are likely the two most athletic teams in the B1G. And Michigan and IU's "superior athleticism" certainly didn't seem to have much impact the first time we played them.
