For all of the FIRE PAINTER! Morons

So you want to fire Painter, pay him $16 million, then hire Dusty May? Yes or no?
No. Don't hire anyone other than Matt. In fact extend him for 30 - 40 years!! Keep him around until HE decides to leave. Perpetuate mediocrity! We don't ever want to snif a FF or God forbid a title.

Hey! Look! A coach who’s last job was Rhode Island is destroying Gonzaga…

Be as angry as you want over the NCAA Tournament meltdowns. Absolutely valid. But, to imply that Painter represents "mediocrity" is ludicrous.

For all of the posters who think Bobinski should have fired Matt Painter, I have a question for you:

If Purdue had gone 10-10 in the B1G, got a 9 seed and lost to an 8 seed in the NCAA, would you still want Painter fired?
Depending on the Big schedule. You do realize not all play the same schedule

From the standpoint that winning the B1G means about as much as, say, winning the Central in NFL/NBA/MLB, then “yes”, he’s mediocre…

Still butt hurt you got proven wrong about your “really bad tournament coach” comment ?

And now you’re doubling down by calling him “mediocre”!

He’s 17-15 so let’s stop acting like he’s Tom Izzo. He’s average…

No he's not. Mediocre coaches don't win 67% of their games. Mediocre coaches don't make the NCAA Tournament in 14 of 18 seasons. Mediocre coaches don't win 17 games in the NCAA Tournament or take 6 teams to the S16. Mediocre coaches don't win multiple coach of the year awards. They don't develop multiple All Americans.

Painter is far from perfect. He has to reverse this troubling trend of getting punked in the NCAA Tournament. The lack of a Final Four is a glaring hole in his resume.

But, come on. Saying Painter is a mediocre is just flat ridiculous.

I tried to find a comparable coach but everyone else had more tourney/playoff success…

Why? In the scheme of things, winning your League/Division is nice but it really means nothing besides a trip to what truly matters, the playoffs. And once we get there, CMP is overmatched…

Playoffs???

You didn’t try very hard, but that wouldn’t fit your narrative would it ?
Fine. Who do you think is comparable to someone with a league regular season title roughly every five years on average but is basically .500 in the postseason & has never been to a Final 4 / Conference Finals..?

Fair enough. That means among elite coaches, Painter ranks low in NCAA Tournament success. Same thing was true of Gene. But, that doesn't make either mediocre.

Think of all the coaches wo have coached in the top conferences over the past 20 years. Then rank Painter by wins, winning percentage, NCAA appearances, NCAA wins, conference championships, All Americans, and so on. If he ranks around the 50th percentile, then he's mediocre. But, I'm sure he's easily in the upper third in all those categories and probably higher in some.

As I said before, his failure to make the FF is a glaring hole in his resume. Same was true of Gene. But that single deficiency doesn't make either mediocre.

If you’re happy with just winning B1G titles & never making another Elite 8, that’s fine. As long as you believe that CMP can still get us to where we all want to go (the same place FAU & the former Rhode Island coach is now and the former George Mason coach and a 1st-time HC at San Diego St could join them), then that’s great.

However, when reports come out that CMP is looking to end our Historically Bad Recent NCAA Streak by going after a turnover-prone G5 kid who can’t shoot, that’s where my faith & trust that he can actually get us there waivers big-time. There are plenty of other coaches who could do just as well, if not a lot better, here with the tradition & resources at their disposal…

People using the 16 mil as a reason not to get rid of Paint are hilarious... Poor ol broke Purdue. Only in the most wealthy sports conference in the entire nation with the millions upon millions the athletic departments rake in in the TV deal alone... UCLA and USC coming to the broke B1G for the fun of it... LOL get outta here...

Purdue doesn’t have $16 million for the buyout. Boosters pay huge buyouts, not schools.

Purdue boosters evidently think it would be a stupid use of their money.

Defend Painter all you want. The reality is Purdue has made 3 Elite 8’s in 43 years, and only one of those is Painter’s. That’s 1 in every 14.3 years.

That doesn’t make what you said any less wrong.

And he has made 6 sweet sixteens. How does that fit in your narrative?

Another whiner who does nothing to change the situation. The courts and NCAA have granted you the power to change what seems to be a very distressing part of your life.

I'll never understand people who have the power to change things, but instead they sit and whine, somehow thinking it will solve their problems.

If I had the power to fire Painter, I would.
